Chapter Fourteen: Calm and Peaceful Negotiation (2)

Chapter Fourteen: Calm and Peaceful Negotiation (2)

Jiang Sui pulled Luo Yan along, and they were swept out of the wedding venue like a gust of wind.

Yang Xin's fake smile completely crumbled, her fingertips trembling with anger. She forced a twisted smile at the onlookers, trying to sarcasticly cover it up: "Oh dear, Yan Yan's boyfriend has quite the temper. He just left without a second thought, showing no respect whatsoever. I wonder who he is, acting so high and mighty... I guess Yan Yan had a hard time getting him, so she's keeping a close eye on him, as if she's afraid we'll find out something if we ask too many questions, like he's not presentable."

Almost as soon as she finished speaking, a surprised exclamation came from the crowd, drawing everyone's attention.

"I remember now, that's Jiang Sui, the most capable vice president of Feiyang Technology! He's the person in charge of 'Smart Tourism,' a key project for Yu'an City this year, which was recently reported on TV. He's also been featured on official financial news. He's handsome, young, and promising. Luo Yan is amazing; she managed to snag him without making a sound!"

The words were spoken by a female classmate named Qin Ying, who kept glancing at Yang Xin's reaction with a half-smile.

Upon hearing this, a collective gasp of astonishment erupted from the surrounding crowd, followed by an even more heated discussion.

"Jiang Sui from Feiyang Technology?! Really?"

"I knew he looked familiar! He's even more handsome in person than in the photos online!"

"Luo Yan's luck is just too good!"

"Yang Xin, you just said they were lying? This is a quick slap in the face, isn't it?"

Qin Ying, being straightforward, ignored Yang Xin's suddenly pale face and continued to sigh, "Speaking of which, Yang Xin, I remember back in college, Wu Yuzhou was initially dating Luo Yan, right? But then somehow... Hehe, now that Luo Yan has found someone better, are you feeling particularly bitter?"

These words were like a precise stab to Yang Xin's heart, a stab with salt.

"What are you talking about? How could I be the kind of person who doesn't want my friends to be happy?"

Yang Xin still had a smile on her face, but her fingers were clenching the wine glass so tightly that they cracked.

"Luo Yan is a better student than you. She was among the top students in her college, and she even passed the civil service exam. The city's Bureau of Culture and Tourism has a 1% acceptance rate for civil servants." Qin Ying continued, "Sigh, she could have relied on her parents, but she chose to rely on herself."

"So what if she's good at studying? She chose a terrible major, and she still ended up selling cars for three years. Didn't she take the civil service exam three times before she finally passed? Having a rich dad isn't her ability; it's just good luck!"

Yang Xin completely dropped the pretense. The moment Jiang Sui appeared, her mental defenses had already crumbled, and now, after hearing Qin Ying's words, she felt even more embarrassed.

"Hehe, jealousy can make a person unrecognizable."

"Qin Ying, are you determined to embarrass me at my wedding?"

"You were the one who insisted on embarrassing Luo Yan at your own wedding, and you even broke your guard after failing to do so."

Qin Ying raised an eyebrow coldly, stood up, and straightened her designer suit.

Wu Yuzhou stood aside, his face quite unpleasant. He was shocked that Luo Yan and Jiang Sui were involved, and annoyed that his classmate's words were so blunt. He quickly stepped forward and put his arm around Yang Xin's shoulder, trying to smooth things over: "Alright, we're all old classmates, just joking around. Today is a good day for me and Xin'er, everyone eat and drink well, come on, let's drink!"

He should have kept quiet, because once he spoke, Yang Xin felt like everyone was laughing at her. She abruptly shook off Wu Yuzhou's hand, glared at him fiercely, and stomped off into the lounge in her high heels.

The meticulously planned wedding was completely overshadowed by Luo Yan and Jiang Sui, who appeared out of nowhere!

Luo Yan, you just wait, this isn't over!

In the afternoon, the sky darkened, and soon it started to rain.

The damp air, carried by the cool breeze, squeezed in through the cracks in the car windows, and the atmosphere inside the car dropped to freezing point.

Jiang Sui gripped the steering wheel with one hand, staring straight ahead, his jawline taut.

"Aren't you usually so quick-witted? Why were you so silent just now? Is all you can do is bark and sneer at me?"

Luo Yan was still reeling from the shock and confusion of "why Jiang Sui appeared" and "how he actually hugged me just now," and instinctively retorted, "What's it to you? Do you think I wanted to go? It's all because of you! If it weren't for you at Peach Blossom Pool that day... and that lousy agreement! Would I have been targeted by Yang Xin? Would I have been forced to let it slip by Lao Luo? Would I have had to embarrass myself like this today?!"

Jiang Sui was utterly shocked: "So your current situation is all my fault? It's all my fault?"

"Otherwise what? If it weren't for your tattered shirt, would all this mess be here?"

Luo Yan became more and more agitated as she spoke, unleashing all the pent-up frustration, anger, and embarrassment she had been holding in: "It's all your fault! Why did you show up? Why did you help me? Why... do you look like a male model?! What kind of hero are you playing now? Who asked you to meddle in other people's business!"

Jiang Sui was so angry at her indiscriminate attack that he almost laughed. He pulled the car over to the side of the road, turned around and stared at her: "Luo Yan, can't you be reasonable? Who was it that mistook me for someone else, acted drunk, signed the contract, and let slip to your dad? Was it me? I didn't throw you out on the street when you were drunk last time, and this time I couldn't stand it and helped you out, but now it's all my fault?"

"Who needs your fake kindness? Don't think I don't know you're just adding fuel to the fire after you've had your fill of watching the show!" Luo Yan's eyes were red-rimmed, and she completely lost control of her emotions, shouting incoherently, "You're all the same! Wu Yuzhou! Yang Xin! Xu Jingfei! Luo Muyang! And you! The whole world thinks I'm easy to bully, that they can all laugh at me! So what if I passed the civil service exam? So what if nobody wants me? Do you think I deserve to be your entertainment?! Let me tell you, Jiang Sui, do whatever you want with that lousy contract, I'll just give up my job and go back to selling cars! I've had enough of this for over a month!"

After she finished yelling, tears finally broke down uncontrollably. She quickly wiped them away with the back of her hand, turned her head to look out the window, leaving only a stubborn yet disheveled profile.

The carriage fell into dead silence.

Jiang Sui's initial anger inexplicably dissipated somewhat. He recalled how she had talked about her troubles at home when she was half-drunk at the barbecue stand, how she had faced malice and isolation at the wedding, and how she was now showing her ferocity but was actually incredibly vulnerable. He sighed, restarted the car, and said, "I'll take you home."

Luo Yan ignored him and stared out the window with her neck stiff.

Jiang Sui drove in silence. When they were almost there, he spoke again: "Let's leave the treaty matter here for now. I'll handle President Luo's side. You... don't cause any more trouble."

Luo Yan paused for a moment, then, without saying a word, she opened the car door and rushed out, running into the apartment building without looking back.

After a physically and mentally exhausting wedding farce, Luo Yan stayed home all Sunday, collapsing to recover.

On Monday, she tried to act as if nothing had happened and buried herself in her heavy workload, attempting to numb herself.

When Luo Yan lifted her sleepy eyes from the table where she had been lying, she saw two gleaming Ferrero Rocher cigarettes under the computer monitor when her lunch break ended.

A warm feeling washed over her. She turned to look at Liu Su's workstation, where she was listening to her idol's new song with Bluetooth earphones in. When she saw Luo Yan looking at her, she gave her a smile.

Soon it was time to leave work. Luo Yan lowered her head and walked quickly out of the company gate, preparing to cross the street at the zebra crossing to take the subway.

However, the person she least wanted to see at that moment was standing not far from the doorway, clearly waiting for her.

Yang Xin, dressed in an expensive suit and wearing sunglasses, looked at her coldly: "Off work?"

Luo Yan walked over: "Shouldn't you be on your honeymoon? What are you doing standing here?"

"You're so smug, aren't you?" Yang Xin's voice was hoarse as she took off her sunglasses, revealing a pair of haggard eyes filled with exhaustion and anger from a sleepless night. "You stole all the limelight at my wedding and made me the laughingstock of everyone!"

Luo Yan frowned and looked at her coldly: "You came all this way just to talk about this? I'm very sensitive now, I'll mutate if I get attacked."

"Hehe..." Yang Xin chuckled disdainfully, took a step forward and lowered her voice, "Luo Yan, do you know why I hate you so much? Because Wu Yuzhou hates you! You don't know, do you? Actually, he's always thought you're stubborn and boring, like a block of wood! You're annoying him because you're his childhood sweetheart and follow him around every day! He says I'm much more interesting than you, and he understands men much better than you!"

Luo Yan's face turned pale instantly, but she still stubbornly said, "Is that so... It seems you two are really a good match. The God of Marriage has done a good job with the sorting of trash."

Yang Xin sneered disdainfully, a malicious smug look on her face, and continued to add food to the bowl: "You think he was flirting with you because he liked you? Actually, he never really liked you! He just didn't want to make things awkward since we saw each other all the time! He often told me that he was glad he didn't take someone as boring as you seriously. He never expected you to get so lucky and hook up with Jiang Sui. What makes you think you can find a man better than Wu Yuzhou?!"

"You mean I can't find a man better than your husband?"

Luo Yan felt her fists harden. "Do I have to live worse than you?"

"Of course, this is the correct order of the world!" Yang Xin put her sunglasses back on, her smile quite strange. "Also, you must be wondering when Wu Yuzhou and I got together, right? Actually, it's been a long time. The reason we kept it a secret was because Wu Yuzhou was soft-hearted and afraid it would affect your civil service exam! So we only made our relationship public after you passed the exam. You should thank us for passing! Heh!" After saying that, she slung the small luxury brand bag over her shoulder and strode away.

Luo Yan stood there dumbfounded, watching Yang Xin strut confidently toward the SUV parked by the roadside. Wu Yuzhou was sitting inside, and seemed a little embarrassed when he saw her, nodding from a distance.

She only realized what had happened after the car drove away.

The correct world order? What?!
