Chapter Nineteen: Parents have no love to speak of!
When Wu Yuzhou arrived, Yang Xin was furious.
"She did it on purpose! She just wanted to see me make a fool of myself! Yu Zhou, you have to get revenge for me!" Yang Xin screamed, pounding her pillow in anger.
Wu Yuzhou rubbed his aching temples: "Xin'er, calm down. The doctor said you can't get angry."
"How can I stay calm?! She's completely out of control!"
“Feiyang’s contract is very important to the law firm. Right now, only Luo Yan can speak up for President Luo. Can’t you lower your head a little for my sake? Apologize to her and ease the tension. What’s the harm?”
Yang Xin stared at him in disbelief, "You want your wife to apologize to your love rival?! Are you crazy or am I crazy?"
"This is business, can't you be a little more sensible?"
"If I had been more sensible, I wouldn't have been with you in the first place!"
Pillows, water cups, tissue boxes... everything within reach was thrown by Yang Xin.
Wu Yuzhou dodged awkwardly, retreating towards the door while frantically catching the things thrown at him. "Xin'er, don't be angry... your health..."
"Get out! Get out!"
The ward door was slammed shut.
Wu Yuzhou's temple veins throbbed with excitement. When would this ever end?
The next day at noon, he called Luo Yan again.
"Attorney Wu, what brings you here? How is your wife? Has her stomach ailment flared up into a heart attack?"
During lunch break, Luo Yan's voice was lazy and teasing, with a hint of enjoying the drama.
Wu Yuzhou forced out a gentle tone: "Xiao Yan, can we meet? It's better to clear up some misunderstandings face to face."
"No way!" Luo Yan immediately refused, her tone resolute. "I'm afraid your husband will have to go to the hospital again if he finds out, and then he might try to extort money from me."
“Xin’er does speak a bit harshly, actually…”
"Stop!" Luo Yan interrupted him. "Wu Yuzhou, do you think I'm easy to talk to? Or do you think I still have feelings for you, and that I'll come running to help you win over Lao Luo just by snapping my fingers?" She scoffed, "Wake up! The Qing Dynasty is long gone! Now I only have the Party and the people in my eyes. Men, especially men like you, please step aside, okay? I'm hanging up now, I'm busy!"
"Wait!" Wu Yuzhou exclaimed urgently. "It's just the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee. Where is it convenient for you? I'll come over to you. The legal counsel contract with Feiyang is really important to me. Okay, I'll..."
"Beg me?" Luo Yan delivered the finishing blow precisely.
Wu Yuzhou fell silent instantly, his breathing becoming heavier.
Luo Yan felt as refreshed as if she had drunk iced plum juice on a sweltering summer day: "Attorney Wu, our Culture and Tourism Bureau emphasizes fairness, impartiality, and transparency in its bidding process. Feiyang Technology must also consider strength and cost-effectiveness when choosing a legal counsel, right? Although Lao Luo may be unreliable at times, he's clear-headed when it comes to company decisions and wouldn't resort to personal vendettas. I suggest you follow their rules and go through the proper procedures. Always thinking about taking shortcuts isn't the professional quality a lawyer should have." With that, she hung up the phone without hesitation.
Luo Yan held her phone for a moment, then got up, went out, hailed a taxi, and headed straight for Feiyang Technology.
When Luo Yan arrived, Luo Muyang was lifting dumbbells in his office, which was filled with various figurines and Lego models. He immediately smiled when he saw Luo Yan come in.
"Yanyan, what brings you to visit Daddy today?"
"Mr. Luo, you seem to be having a lot of free time these days. Has Jiang Sui taken over all the work at Feiyang?"
"Feeling sorry for him?" Luo Muyang asked with a smile, picking up a towel to wipe his face.
"Alright, I'm here to talk to you about something serious."
Fearing the topic would veer off course again, Luo Yan cut to the chase: "Wu Yuzhou just called me again, begging me to put in a good word for him."
Luo Muyang walked behind his desk and sat down, with a "I knew it" look on his face: "You haven't gotten over that kid yet, and you've already softened your heart after being fooled by him?"
"I'm soft-hearted my ass!" Luo Yan rolled her eyes. "Old Luo, public matters are public matters, and private matters are private matters. You should do what you're supposed to do when choosing a legal advisor. Don't deliberately target him because of me. I don't want people pointing fingers at me and saying that Feiyang, such a big listed company, is using this kind of personal revenge when choosing a legal advisor. Do I still have any image as a civil servant?"
Looking at his daughter's righteous expression, Luo Muyang laughed heartily, "My Yanyan has really grown up. Her awareness, her vision... Don't worry, although I wasn't very bright when I was pursuing your mother, I'm still a professional at running a company! I've seen Zhengwang's proposal, it's alright, but it's not irreplaceable. If Wu Yuzhou has real ability, he can naturally win the contract. If not, humph, even if he asks the King of Heaven to plead for him, it won't work!"
"That's more like it." Luo Yan breathed a sigh of relief, picked up the Iron Man figurine on the table and fiddled with it. "Keep it up, you need to maintain your domineering CEO image!"
"We must stand up!" Luo Muyang patted his chest, then seemed to remember something, and his tone suddenly became hesitant, "Um... Yanyan, Dad has something... I'd like to ask you for a favor."
"What? You want me to give Ms. Xu a gift again? Last time you gave her that glow-in-the-dark dumbbell, she almost hit me on the head with it."
"No..." Luo Muyang rubbed his hands, a little at a loss, "Have you been back to your mother's recently?"
"No, I'm trying to avoid her like the plague. What happened? Did she change boyfriends again? Which gym's top personal trainer is it this time?"
“No, not really… it’s still He Jun.” Luo Muyang frowned. “It’s precisely because it hasn’t changed that I feel your mother is acting a bit strange this time. She invested a lot of money in that beauty salon, but she didn’t ask for my sponsorship. And I heard that He Jun has even moved in. You know your mother’s personality; she’s like that, going through phases. The longest she’s ever gone before was only three months, but this time it’s been almost four months. I’m afraid that this time… she might be serious?”
Luo Yan paused, putting down the figurine: "Xu Jingfei will be cheated out of money and her virtue?"
“She wouldn’t cheat you out of money, your mother is shrewd, it’s just that when it comes to relationships…” Luo Muyang sighed, “Why don’t you go back and…check things out for your father?”
Looking at Luo Muyang's unusually worried expression, Luo Yan felt a little uneasy.
Although this old man is a bit immature and often gets into trouble without realizing it, his true feelings for Xu Jingfei have remained unchanged for over twenty years.
"Alright, I'll go back tonight." Luo Yan stood up. "But let me make this clear first, I'm just here to take a look. I can't guarantee I'll find out anything, and I won't get involved in your feud."
"Alright, alright, just look!" Luo Muyang beamed, handing Luo Yan the premium Pu'er tea he himself was reluctant to drink: "Here, honey, this is for weight loss..."
"You can keep it for yourself, I'm leaving now."
Luo Yan waved her hand and walked towards the door, then stopped and looked at the dumbbells at Luo Muyang's feet. "Old Luo, you're over fifty, don't go on a diet. You'll have to work out yourself. He will just sit back and win."
Luo Muyang: "..."
That evening, Luo Yan reluctantly returned to her former home.
Pushing open the door, the living room was empty, but the original art disaster-inspired decorations were gone, replaced by some fitness equipment: yoga balls, dumbbells, and ab wheels scattered in the corners, with a faint smell of protein powder in the air.
Luo Yan suddenly had a bad feeling. She walked quickly to her old room. When she opened the door, the room where she had lived for more than 20 years had been transformed into a small gym. The bed, desk, and wardrobe were all gone, replaced by a treadmill, a multi-gym, and a punching bag.
She quickly turned around and rushed to the storage room next door, pulling open the door.
Sure enough, the books, trinkets, and trophies I didn't have time to take with me were all stuffed into a large cardboard box and piled up in a corner.
Just then, the door to the master bedroom opened, and Xu Jingfei, wearing a face mask, came out. She was taken aback when she saw her: "Why are you back?"
He Jun also came out, wearing a tight vest that revealed his bulging muscles, and holding a shaker in his hand.
Luo Yan pointed at the pile of boxes, "Xu Jingfei, what happened to my room and my things?!"
Xu Jingfei peeled off her face mask and said matter-of-factly, "Your room was empty anyway. He Jun needed a place to put his gym equipment, so I let him use it. Didn't I put all your things away for you? I didn't throw them away."
"Where's my bed? Where's my desk?"
"It's so old, it'd just take up space if we kept it, and the scrap collectors would have taken it away anyway," Xu Jingfei said casually. "You've already moved out, why are you still occupying the room?"
Luo Yan was furious: "Even if I moved out, it's still my room! You should at least have asked me first!!"
He Jun stepped forward, acting as a peacemaker, "Yanyan, don't be angry. Blame me if you must. Don't argue with Feifei. Feifei just wants me to be more comfortable here, since I'm staying here regularly now."
These words undoubtedly added fuel to the fire.
Luo Yan suddenly looked at Xu Jingfei, "He's a permanent resident? Xu Jingfei, are you serious?!"
Xu Jingfei felt a little embarrassed by her daughter's aggressive questioning, and her tone hardened: "It's my house. I can let whoever I want live in it. Do I need to ask you for permission? You expect me to reserve a princess room for you?"
"This isn't just about a room! I'm talking about respect. You should at least have told me beforehand!" Luo Yan's eyes reddened, not from sadness, but from pure anger and grievance. "And you!" She turned to He Jun, "Stop with the sweet talk. Move in first, and then are you going to try and get her to change the name on the property deed?"
He Jun immediately put on a hurt expression: "Yanyan, my feelings for Feifei are genuine..."
Luo Yan was even angrier: "Yes, I was really lying to her!"
"That's enough, Luo Yan!" Xu Jingfei was completely enraged. "You don't come back for ten days or half a month at a time, and when you do, you cause chaos. Do you even respect me as your mother?"
"Then do you even consider me your daughter? I'm just a stumbling block on your road to happiness, just like you said last time, 'You're my mother!'" Luo Yan shouted without thinking. "Xu Jingfei, don't come crying to me the day you get cheated out of everything by a man!"
"Get out of here!" Xu Jingfei pointed at the door, her chest heaving with anger. "You're not welcome here!"
Who cares to come?
Luo Yan shoved He Jun aside, picked up the large suitcase full of her belongings, and slammed the door shut as she left.
