Chapter 57 A Couple's Pure Hatred, Escalating into a Shura Field
Another busy day that lasted until nightfall.
Luo Yan rubbed her neck, preparing to leave work, when Wang Qiushi pulled up in front of her in the company car. His honest face showed a hint of nervousness: "Sister Luo, Xiao Su, I'm going to get my car washed. I can give you a ride home on my way."
Liu Su had been through a lot these past few days, so without thinking twice, she opened the back door and said, "Thank you, Brother Qiushi!"
Luo Yan pouted. She wasn't someone who lacked tact. "Fine, I've been sitting all day. I'll walk around and stretch my legs. You guys go ahead."
At this moment, Zhou Jiaqi also came out: "Sister Luo, I also want to take a walk, let's go together."
When she arrived at Luo Yan's building, she had just said goodbye to Zhou Jiaqi when she turned around and saw Wu Yuzhou standing under the streetlight, his face looking somewhat inscrutable in the dim light, staring straight at her.
"Xiaoyan, I've been waiting for you for a long time!" He stepped forward and blocked her way, his tone filled with suppressed urgency. "I came here specifically to find you. We have to talk today!" He then reached out to take her hand.
Luo Yan was extremely annoyed and dodged his outstretched hand: "Wu Yuzhou, if you're sick, go see a doctor. I don't know how to cure diseases!"
"I just want to talk to you properly without any outside interference. Can't we even exchange ten minutes of our ten-year friendship for ten minutes of your time?" Wu Yuzhou seemed very sincere, even pleading, but in Luo Yan's eyes, it was just being unreasonable. She had already exhausted all her patience and felt nothing but disgust for this rude man in front of her.
"Attorney Wu, shouldn't our conversations be paid by the hour? If you need money, just say so. Don't try to extort me. Besides, you're an outsider to me now! Ten years of friendship? What was you thinking when you said that? Don't you have any conscience?"
Wu Yuzhou was speechless after Luo Yan's words. He glanced at Zhou Jiaqi, who was still standing beside him, with a hint of sarcasm in his voice, "Jiang Sui isn't here, so you've changed your taste again? You like this kind of greenhorn who just graduated from school and doesn't know anything?"
Zhou Jiaqi frowned at Wu Yuzhou's rude remarks and looked at Luo Yan: "Sister Luo, are you in trouble? Do you need any help?"
"It's alright, you can go now."
Luo Yan didn't bother to say anything more to Wu Yuzhou. She simply took out her phone, found Yang Xin's number, and sent a text message:
-This is Luo Yan. Your husband is currently harassing me downstairs like a mangy dog. I can't get rid of him. Whoever's man is responsible for him, please come and take him away. Otherwise, I will have to call the police.
Less than ten minutes later, a taxi sped up and stopped at the side of the road. Yang Xin rushed out of the car aggressively. When she saw Wu Yuzhou and Luo Yan standing together, with a handsome young man next to them, her eyes instantly turned red. She pounced on Wu Yuzhou and started scratching and hitting him.
"Wu Yuzhou, didn't you say you were working overtime? You actually worked overtime all the way downstairs to her apartment? Have you no shame?!"
"Yang Xin, are you crazy! Let go! We're in the street, aren't you ashamed?!"
"I'm crazy! You're not ashamed if you have other women, so why should I be afraid?!"
The couple were fighting in the street. Their cursing and crying quickly attracted the attention of the community security guards and onlookers. Someone called the police, and soon, police cars arrived at the scene with sirens blaring.
Amidst the chaos, Yang Xin, her hair disheveled and her makeup ruined by tears, pointed at Luo Yan and sobbed to the police, "Officer, it's all her fault! She's seduced my husband time and time again, trying to drive a wedge between us! Look at her, she's still flirting with other men, she already has a boyfriend but she's found another gigolo!"
Zhou Jiaqi's face darkened, and he was about to step forward to argue when Luo Yan stopped him. She shook her head at him and said, "It's none of your business. She just wants to humiliate me. If you get angry, you're just playing into her hands."
Yang Xin seemed to have caught her red-handed. "Luo Yan, you shameless woman, you've never been without men. Can't you live without men? Then go find a man yourself, why are you throwing yourself at someone else's husband!"
Luo Yan chuckled. It had absolutely nothing to do with her, yet Yang Xin always managed to shift the blame onto her, as if she were solely responsible for the unhappiness in their marriage.
They really think highly of her.
Facing the questioning gazes of the police and the various stares around her, Luo Yan straightened her back and spoke clearly and calmly: "Officer, this is my colleague. He was just giving me a ride home. As for this Mr. Wu, he continued to harass me despite my repeated and explicit refusal. I can go back to the police station to explain the details..." She then looked at Yang Xin, who was glaring fiercely, "Or you should have your husband explain the law to you. What's the usual sentence for defaming someone in public without any evidence and infringing on their right to reputation?"
As Luo Yan's gaze swept over Wu Yuzhou, whose face was ashen, and Yang Xin, whose face was filled with hatred, she suddenly recalled the humiliation she felt when she was forced to "witness" their love. In just one year, they had become a couple filled with pure hatred before her eyes. It was truly ironic.
After giving my statement at the police station, it was already late at night.
Looking at Zhou Jiaqi, who had stayed by her side the whole time, Luo Yan felt both grateful and apologetic.
"Xiao Zhou, I'm so sorry. I made you laugh today and even got you smeared." Luo Yan rubbed her temples, feeling more tired than if she had worked three days of overtime.
Zhou Jiaqi pushed up his glasses, his smile gentle: "Sister Luo, don't say that. The one who's in the wrong is that inexplicable person. I'm just worried about you; he seems... a bit irrational."
"You're being too mild. He's not just irrational, he's seriously ill!" Luo Yan sighed, glancing at the time. "I'll treat you to a late-night snack to calm you down."
There was a clay pot porridge shop nearby that was still open. Luo Yan didn't have much of an appetite and stirred the porridge in her bowl listlessly with a spoon.
"Sister Luo, are you really alright?" Zhou Jiaqi asked with concern. "This won't affect your relationship with your boyfriend, will it?"
"It's okay, it won't affect anything." Luo Yan forced a smile. "Look, it's been ten years. Even a dog would wag its tail after that. How did some people, who were originally quite respectable, end up like this?"
"Dignity is something people earn themselves, and how they live is what they bring upon themselves."
Zhou Jiaqi spoke slowly and deliberately, as if comforting Luo Yan, "Sister Luo, I think you did the right thing today. They deserved it, you don't need to blame yourself."
"Comrade Zhou, has anyone ever told you that you're quite understanding for a guy?"
"Sister Luo, please stop teasing me. I'm just telling the truth."
Zhou Jiaqi seemed a little embarrassed.
Luo Yan smiled and didn't say anything more.
She didn't notice that from the start of the farce until now, an inconspicuous black sedan had been parked across the street, and through its half-lowered window, a pair of scrutinizing eyes had been silently watching her.
Inside the black sedan, a cell phone rang.
"Boss, according to our initial understanding, Luo Yan and Wu Yuzhou were childhood sweethearts and dated for ten years. Last year, Wu Yuzhou married his current wife, and the two broke up. I heard that it was a very unpleasant breakup. Now it seems that Wu Yuzhou wants to get back together with Luo Yan. Also, Wu Yuzhou's law firm, Zhengwang Law Firm, is now Feiyang's legal counsel."
"Okay, I understand."
On the other end of the phone, Jiang Qiming's voice was emotionless. He hesitated for a moment, then let out a soft, ambiguous laugh, "Ten years, such deep affection... And who was she having dinner with afterward?"
"It is said that he is Luo Yan's colleague at the Bureau of Culture and Tourism, named Zhou Jiaqi."
“Zhou Jiaqi…”
Jiang Qiming murmured the name, tapping his fingertips lightly on the table. "Alright, you don't need to follow me for the next few days. We'll talk about it when Jiang Sui comes back."
"Yes, boss."
After hanging up the phone, Jiang Qiming stared at Luo Yan's clear photo on the computer screen, recalling once again the resounding words she had spoken righteously in the teahouse that day, every word of which remained fresh in his memory.
"Luo Yan, Luo Muyang's daughter... Heh, she's not quite what I imagined."
That night was destined to be anything but peaceful.
As soon as Yang Xin stepped into the house, she grabbed a vase from the entryway and threw it at Wu Yuzhou.
"You bastard surnamed Wu! You actually attacked me for Luo Yan?!"
Wu Yuzhou skillfully dodged to the side, and the vase shattered against the wall, scattering shards everywhere.
"You were the one who pounced on me like a madwoman first, and you went crazy in front of so many people in the street. Are you satisfied now, Yang Xin? Look at yourself now... do you have even a trace of the person you used to be?"
"I became like this because of you! You and Luo Yan forced me into this state!"
Yang Xin screamed and swept the things off the coffee table. "You've never let go of her, so why did you marry me? Now that she's found someone better, you regret it? Look in the mirror, what makes you better than Jiang Sui?!"
"Yes, I can't compare to Jiang Sui! But what about you? In what way do you compare to Luo Yan?!" Wu Yuzhou's long-suppressed resentment finally erupted. "At least she doesn't compare herself to others like you do every day, she doesn't force me to buy things I can't afford, and she doesn't trample on my last bit of dignity!"
"Ha, you finally said what's on your mind! You regret marrying me!" Yang Xin rushed up and scratched his face with her nails. "Then go find her! See if she still talks to you now that she has Jiang Sui!"
"Enough!" Wu Yuzhou shoved her away abruptly, his eyes cold and weary. "Yang Xin, let's get a divorce."
Yang Xin froze, as if she hadn't heard clearly: "What...did you say?"
I said, "Let's get a divorce."
Wu Yuzhou turned and walked into the bedroom, pulled out his suitcase, and began stuffing clothes into it. "I've had enough. I can't live like this for another day!"
"You dare!" Yang Xin rushed in, trying to snatch his luggage. "Wu Yuzhou, you dare to leave and see what happens!"
Wu Yuzhou irritably shoved her away, zipped up his suitcase, and walked out without looking back.
"If you're going to leave, then don't come back!" Yang Xin shouted at his retreating figure as she chased him to the door, but the only response she received was a heavy and resolute slam of the door.
The empty house was filled only with Yang Xin's heavy breathing and a scene of utter chaos. She slowly slid down to the floor, her eyes shifting from anger to emptiness, finally settling into a deep-seated hatred.
"Luo Yan...why did you get Jiang Sui, while I... am relegated to this state?! It's all your fault, it's all because of you!"
