Chapter Thirty-Nine: Hello, Boyfriend/Girlfriend

Chapter Thirty-Nine: Hello, Boyfriend/Girlfriend

As dawn broke, the heavy snow turned into light snow.

The first thing Luo Yan saw when she woke up was Jiang Sui's chin. She was held in his arms, her naked skin pressed tightly against his chest.

She looked up at him in a daze, and at that moment, he also opened his eyes. Their eyes met, and there was a few seconds of silence.

Then, the memory returned.

Last night, she slept with Jiang Sui...

It's not an adjective, it's a verb!

Luo Yan quickly buried herself completely under the covers and pretended to be asleep, like a boiled shrimp, with her toes curled up.

That's it, we're completely doomed.

"Stop pretending now that you're awake."

Jiang Sui's voice carried a hint of languor from just waking up, exposing her clumsy acting. Then he rolled over, pressed down on her, and pulled off the blanket.

Luo Yan, the ostrich, refused to go down. She slowly poked her head out from under the covers, revealing only her two eyes.

Jiang Sui laughed and leaned closer, "Comrade Luo Yan, are you planning to wash your hands of me and then disappear? You slept with me and don't want to take responsibility?"

“It was clearly…” Luo Yan’s eyes darted around, her voice barely audible, “You…slept with me.”

"Last night someone was holding me tightly and wouldn't let go, begging for more. Who was it? I can't remember."

"Jiang Sui!" Luo Yan's face turned bright red, and she retorted with a stiff neck, but her voice lacked confidence, "I am... conducting a serious post-war reflection!"

"What have you come to in your reflection?" Jiang Sui propped himself up on his arms, pretending to listen attentively.

"Beauty can ruin a country! The sugar-coated bullets of capitalism are terrifying!" Luo Yan tried to use exaggeration to cover up her shyness.

Jiang Sui chuckled softly, reached for her phone from the bedside table, and shoved the screen in front of her eyes.

Luo Yan looked closely and saw a screenshot of her own cheesy WeChat Moments post on the screen: 【Whoever goes to the premiere with me, I'll give myself to them! [doge emoji]】

"You actually took a screenshot?!" Luo Yan was so shocked she almost jumped up. "Didn't you say you didn't see it?! Liar!"

Jiang Sui put his phone away. "Comrade Luo Yan is quite trustworthy; she kept her promise very quickly."

"That's a dog emoji! It's just a joke! Don't you know any basic internet common sense?" Luo Yan angrily punched his chest, but he grabbed her wrist and pressed it above her head.

"I don't understand." Jiang Sui leaned down and nuzzled her nose, his breath hot. "I only understand the meaning of 'repaying with one's body'."

His gaze was so aggressive that Luo Yan's heart was pounding. "Then... then how do you settle the matter of you playing me? The debt for the cufflinks hasn't been settled yet!"

“This…” Jiang Sui lowered his head and bit her collarbone lightly, eliciting a soft gasp from her. “It can be converted into a ‘joint debt,’ and we can pay it off together.”

Luo Yan felt weak all over but couldn't break free. She angrily accused, "Have you been trying to trick me all along? You've been using all your tricks on me, haven't you?"

Jiang Sui remained silent, his hands restlessly stroking her back, then moving to the front, gently caressing her again, arousing a tingling sensation throughout her body.

"Liar! Schemer!"

"Fine, I'm a liar, I'm a conspirator."

Jiang Sui stopped what he was doing and rested his chin on the top of her head. "Now that we've secured a place in Xudu, why don't we consider the issue of officially starting your job?"

Luo Yan was held in his arms, unable to break free, but she still refused to admit defeat: "Now it's just... well, Comrade Jiang Sui, congratulations on passing the written test. Now we're going to the interview. I hope you're not just a flash in the pan."

"A written test?" Jiang Sui took three seconds to react, then smiled knowingly. "Last night it must have lasted longer than three minutes. It seems Comrade Luo Yan gave me a pretty high evaluation of my 'written test,' perhaps even... a little unsatisfied?"

Luo Yan: "!!!"

How could he say such... indecent things so naturally and seriously?!

She was filled with shame and anger, grabbed a pillow and smothered his face: "Jiang Sui, shut up!"

Jiang Sui snatched the pillow and threw it aside, then lifted the blanket and kissed the lips of the woman who was trying to argue back.

Luo Yan struggled symbolically for a couple of moments before collapsing completely.

After a moment, Jiang released her, gently stroking her slightly swollen lips with his thumb. "Hello, girlfriend."

Luo Yan blushed and pecked him on the corner of his lips, "Hello, boyfriend." Then she quickly buried her face in the pillow.

That scoundrel of a man is such a smooth talker; he's made her heart almost jump out of her chest.

Just then, my stomach growled.

Jiang Sui smiled and got up. "I'm going to take a shower first. You can lie down for a while longer."

Luo Yan hummed in agreement, then secretly glanced sideways at Jiang Sui, who was getting dressed. His beautiful muscles rippled with his movements, and his belt hung loosely around his lean waist. She pursed her lips and subconsciously swallowed.

It looks good, and... it works well.

As expected of her, hiding such a beauty in bed, she must be eating very well.

"What are you thinking about?" Jiang Sui suddenly turned around. "You're smiling like you've won five million?"

Luo Yan quickly composed herself, "You work every day, don't you ever exercise or anything?"

"What, you're complaining about my stamina?"

"No, I just...asked casually."

"Swimming or tennis, three times a week."

"You're so busy, yet you still find time to exercise. You're a time management master!"

"Comrade Luo Yan, the master simply used the time that some people spend loafing around at home to train, that's all."

"..."

The snow is still falling, and the whole world is covered in white. It looks like we won't be able to go out today.

What food do you have at home?

When Jiang Sui came out of the shower, she seemed like a different person. She had shed her usual coldness and looked more refreshed and capable than ever before.

Luo Yan thought for a moment, "It seems... Granny Rong just bought groceries for me a couple of days ago."

"Okay, I'll go check. You can go take a shower while the bathroom is still warm." Jiang Sui said and walked towards the kitchen.

Luo Yan followed, wrapped in a blanket, and watched as Jiang Sui tied on a Peppa Pig apron, took out rice and a few eggs from the cupboard, and then took out a sausage, a bunch of scallions, and half a bag of frozen shrimp from the refrigerator, and skillfully began to wash the rice.

"You can cook? I thought you were someone who never lifted a finger in the kitchen."

"Otherwise what? Did I survive on dew when I was studying abroad?" Jiang Sui didn't even turn her head, deftly cracking eggs and chopping ham. "Back then, I found a job at a Chinese restaurant that provided meals. The boss was from Sichuan, so I learned from him."

"And your refrigerator is... still like that?"

"Comrade Luo Yan, cooking skills are something that you can have but not use, and it's the same as not having them at all."

Soon, fragrant fried rice with ham, shrimp, and egg, and a simple seaweed soup were placed in front of Luo Yan, looking quite appetizing.

Luo Yan took a bite and her eyes lit up: "Delicious! You're such a good cook. You even made me cook last time. Did you want to see me embarrass myself?"

Jiang Sui handed him a tissue. "What did I do to make you keep having this feeling that I want to hurt you?"

"Because you always have a stern face and speak very sparingly, you're the kind of person who's ruthless but doesn't talk much."

"To clarify, I simply don't want to talk to you."

Luo Yan said "oh" and continued eating.

Something feels off...

Just then, his phone rang; it was Luo Muyang.

"Yanyan, it's snowing so heavily, you didn't go out, did you? Do you have any food at home? Dad will have someone send you some."

"No need, I...I've already eaten!" Luo Yan looked nervously at Jiang Sui, who was cleaning up in the kitchen, afraid that he would make a noise.

"Is it going to be instant noodles again? That stuff has no nutritional value!"

"It's... fried rice with egg, I made it myself."

Your voice sounds a little strange, are you alright?

"It's nothing, I just woke up, my throat is a little dry..." Luo Yan was saying when Jiang Suigong wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and kissed her earlobe. "Who is it? So early..."

Luo Yan tried to cover the phone, but it was obviously too late.

Luo Muyang keenly sensed something was amiss: "Yanyan, is there anyone else in your house? I think I heard a man's voice?"

"No, it's...it's the TV!" Luo Yan's voice trembled with fright. She quickly covered her mouth with her hand and glared at Jiang Sui.

Luo Muyang sighed, his tone becoming heavy: "Yanyan, your mother said that I've been unilaterally trying to match you with Jiang Sui, forcing you to put on an act for us... Don't worry, Dad will never try to play matchmaker again. I understand you don't like Jiang Sui, and I respect your choice..."

Luo Yan: "..."

Isn't your "understanding" a bit too ill-timed? Before, no one believed her no matter how much she pleaded, but now she's starting to reflect after just one sentence from Xu Jingfei?

"I'm not..."

Luo Yan shouted in vain at the already disconnected phone, then turned around and glared at Jiang Sui angrily, "What are you doing?"

Jiang Sui looked completely innocent: "I was just asking who it is, why are you so afraid of being found out by President Luo?"

Luo Yan rolled her eyes at him, annoyed. "Don't you know your boss? If he finds out, it's like the whole world knows. What if it gets back to the company? Does that mean he's sleeping with project managers and contractors? Is that even acceptable?"

Jiang Sui paused for a moment, then tightened his arms around them: "Why don't we just tell them directly?"

"No way!" Luo Yan reacted strongly. "The project isn't finished yet! What will my colleagues and superiors think? I worked so hard to get this permanent position, do I even want to keep it?" She turned around and looked at him seriously: "Jiang Sui, our relationship... can we keep it a secret for now?"

Jiang Sui's expression darkened slightly, clearly dissatisfied with the suggestion: "Am I really that shameful?"

"No, no!" Luo Yan hurriedly explained, "It's to avoid suspicion. Think about it, if word gets out that we're dating on company funds, and something goes wrong with the project, it'll all be our fault!" She looked at Jiang Sui earnestly, "Let's wait until the project is successfully completed, okay?"

Jiang Sui was reluctant, but nodded nonetheless: "Alright, I'll do as you say."

Luo Yan felt a weight lifted from her heart, but also felt a little guilty. She looked up and kissed his chin: "Thank you for your understanding, General Jiang!"

Jiang Sui lowered his head and kissed her forehead. "However, since it's underground work, shouldn't we raise the level of secrecy? For example, how about you move in with me?"

"General Jiang, the revolution has not yet succeeded, and comrades must remain vigilant. Cohabitation is a fruit of the final victory, not something we can think about now."

As Luo Yan spoke firmly, she instinctively snuggled closer to him and looked out the window.

"Sigh, tomorrow at work we'll have to go shovel snow on the streets again."

"Yeah, be careful not to knock the boss away again."

"..."
