"Let me see..."
Yu Wei crouched down and reached out to check the wound, but the thin man nimbly dodged him, and Yu Wei continued to roll on the ground and wail.
"Ouch! Someone's been hit! Commander, you have to stand up for me... He hit me and won't pay any compensation, and he's even swearing at me..."
"Take your hand away, let me see your injury..."
Yu Wei's outstretched hand was dodged again, and this happened several times in a row. No matter how good-tempered he was, he couldn't help but frown.
"Li Laosi, what are you doing? Let someone check your wound. Do you want to bleed to death?"
Brother Zhang was speechless. Yu Wei had already bled a lot from the injured person during the rescue today, and his face was still pale. It was only right for him to help if he could, and it was only his right not to.
"In my opinion, this Li Laosi is just trying to scam people."
"That's right. He made a huge fuss before the person arrived, but now that the person is here, he won't let you see them."
"I think he's just feeling guilty..."
"Young man, ignore him." An old woman glanced at the man with disdain. "He's just a thug who bullies and harasses men and women. If he's trying to scam us, fine, but if he really gets beaten up, he deserves it and gets what he deserves!"
The crowd was too busy watching the farce to notice the tiny insects flying around that shouldn't have been there.
Yu Wei felt something bite his face, his head spun for two seconds, and then he quickly regained his senses.
Li Laosi ignored him, only repeating those two phrases over and over: "Ouch! Someone's been hit! This is outrageous!"
Take your hand off!
Yu Wei lost his patience, grabbed his shoulder with one hand, and forcefully pried the hand covering his forehead with the other.
Everyone curiously craned their necks to look for a long time, almost looking through Li Laosi's smooth forehead until they could see through it, but they still couldn't find a single wound.
"Pfft..."
A soft chuckle broke the silence. Yu Wei, his face dark, quickly stood up and walked to Zhou Siyu's side. "Why are you here?"
"I came to take a look. How serious is the injury that it's taken so long to treat?" Zhou Siyu crossed her arms, walked into the crowd, and kicked the person rolling on the ground. "Tell me, who sent you?"
"Who are you? What do you mean, 'sent by whom'? I don't understand a word you're saying." The confusion in Li Laosi's eyes lasted a few seconds, then he immediately clutched his head, "Ouch! It hurts so much..."
"Don't pretend, there's no wound at all..."
Zhou Siyu ignored the surrounding discussions, turned around, and touched Yu Wei's collar.
Yu Wei froze, his ears turning bright red. He coughed and gently nudged Zhou Siyu.
Zhou Siyu ignored this, her fair hand stopping at her collar.
Upon seeing the tiny black worm-like object held by Zhou Siyu's fingertips, Yu Wei's blush quickly faded, and she coldly stared at the man on the ground.
A bugging device? It must have been placed on him when he crouched down. If this thing is taken back, who knows how many secrets it will reveal.
"Now you can tell me, right?"
Zhou Siyu stared at Li Laosi with a smile, her amber eyes slowly deepening until they turned completely deep purple.
Li Laosi stared blankly: "Yes..."
"careful!"
Yu Wei quickly pulled away the person standing in front of Li Laosi, and a red dot landed on Li Laosi's forehead. Li Laosi fell straight to the ground, his eyes staring fixedly ahead.
"Buzz..."
Zhou Siyu's highly concentrated mental energy was forcibly dispersed by an external force. His ears were ringing, as if he were in a huge, rapidly spinning white space. The surrounding noise disappeared, leaving only the empty ringing in his ears.
A sudden, sharp pain yanked him violently out of the white world. He was in so much pain that he couldn't speak, or even breathe. His heart was pounding wildly, and his hands and feet were ice-cold.
"Excuse me, please make way."
Yu Wei picked him up, pushed through the crowd, found a corner of a wall that hadn't collapsed, let Zhou Siyu lean against the wall, gently hugged him, and slowly released pheromones to soothe him.
The crisp scent of grass and trees permeates every wisp of air, spreading outwards and fading with distance, yet the aroma at its center remains intense.
Pheromones spread everywhere with the wind and snow, their faint fragrance like that of night-blooming gardenias.
"Hey, what's wrong? Should we go check on them?"
Many people craned their necks and stood on tiptoe to watch the two people leaving the crowd.
"Hey, they're just a young couple catching up, what are you doing here?" The man kicked the person lying on the ground and sighed, "Let's find a place to bury him first."
"Ouch, something bit me!"
A man in a black cotton-padded coat slapped his neck, staring blankly at his empty palm for a moment.
"Let me see." Another man stepped forward, shining a flashlight on his hand to examine the wound closely. After a long while, he frowned and said, "It's probably an insect bite. I don't know what kind of insect it is. The bite is red and swollen."
"How could there be insects in the middle of winter? Old Zhang, you must be mistaken."
The man rubbed his neck nonchalantly, seemingly unaffected except for his inexplicably rapid heartbeat.
"Ouch, I got bitten too."
"So many bugs!"
"Ouch, this bug must be poisonous! It's so itchy and painful!"
As the sounds rose and fell, a sense of unease welled up in the man surnamed Zhang's heart.
"Who! Who's releasing pheromones?!"
The incident caused a huge stir, and the restless crowd became increasingly uneasy. Reason was gradually being swallowed up, and those who had been bitten gathered together and headed in the direction from which the pheromones had come.
With the soothing effect of pheromones, the pain gradually lessened, the heartbeat slowly stabilized, blood began to circulate normally throughout the body, and the body gradually warmed up.
Zhou Siyu leaned weakly against the corner of the wall, raised his heavy hand and gently patted the person who was holding him tightly. He opened his chapped lips and said in a hoarse voice, "Don't worry, I'm not dead..."
