The wide road was deserted, and the bright streetlights cast a lonely shadow. The smell of soil and grass filled the air, and the faint sound of slogans being shouted could be heard in the wind.
Yu Wei sat on the low bollards of the green belt along the sidewalk, hugging his knees, gazing absently at the deep sky.
"Beep beep beep... beep beep beep..."
The communicator kept flashing. Yu Wei wiped away her tears and quickly answered the call.
"It's me, can you hear me?"
"Okay, go ahead."
The voice on the other end was low and hoarse, as if suppressing emotions. Zhou Siyu rubbed his temples and paused, then said, "I've heard everything from Uncle Lin."
"He sent you as an intermediary?" Yu Wei's tone was filled with displeasure, tinged with a hint of disappointment. "I told you, I wouldn't ruin their plans..."
Is that all you wanted to tell me?
Zhou Siyu got up and walked to the balcony, closing the balcony door behind her. Her slender figure looked somewhat lonely in the flashing lights of the building across the street, as if she might fall with the wind at any moment.
"Um...no." Yu Wei pursed his lips, remaining silent for a long time. Zhou Siyu, wanting to tease him, feigned disappointment and sighed softly, "Fine, it seems you don't want to hear my voice. In that case..."
"No." Yu Wei raised her hand to wipe away her tears, lowered her voice, and spoke rapidly, "I missed you..."
"What? I didn't hear you clearly." Zhou Siyu leaned against the glass door, one hand raised and the other placed on it. Seeing Yu Wei's panicked explanation, she smiled slightly and said, "Just kidding."
He paused, then said seriously, "I miss you too."
"Hmm... I heard you." Yu Wei grinned, looking a little silly. "I miss you too, I miss you the most, I miss you even more than you miss you..."
"Alright, enough of this nonsense." Thinking of the news Yu Wei was about to hear, Zhou Siyu's eyes were filled with joy, and her gentle gaze added a touch of softness to her beautiful face. "I have some good news to tell you."
"Go ahead, I'm listening."
Seeing Zhou Siyu's expression, Yu Wei couldn't help but feel expectant, and his heart started to race with nervousness, his palms sweating.
"We might be going to be dads."
"What?" Yu Wei was momentarily stunned, unable to process Zhou Siyu's meaning. After a long while, she slowly spoke, "You mean... we're having a child?"
"Hmph, judging from your expression, do you not want to take responsibility for us, father and son?" Zhou Siyu put her hands on her hips, pretending to be angry. "I knew you were a heartless scoundrel, a scumbag..."
"I didn't! I didn't! You're framing me!" Yu Wei wiped away her tears, her voice trembling as she tried to confirm again, "You really... that..."
"Yes, I went for a checkup yesterday." Zhou Siyu nodded, gently placing her hand on her stomach. "The doctor said it only looks a bit like it, and we'll have to wait a while before doing another checkup..."
Although the examination data showed something, he believed Chu Yunmu.
It is said that flowers from the same orchid tree have a special connection, and this connection is passed down through generations and cannot be severed.
"Hehehe...I have a child..."
Yu Wei was overjoyed, spinning and jumping around like a fool.
“I already said it’s not confirmed yet…” Zhou Siyu sighed helplessly, “Be serious and let me finish what I have to say.”
"Mmm-hmm..." Yu Wei nodded hurriedly, "Go on, go on, I'm listening."
“If, and I mean if, it’s true.” Zhou Siyu paused, looking at the person on the screen, “You will have more responsibilities on your shoulders, more responsibilities, and you will need to consider more carefully every decision you make.”
"You can no longer be as naive as before, you can no longer act like a child who never grows up, doing whatever you want, leaving whenever you want, staying whenever you want."
“As a father, I hope you think carefully about whether you can shoulder the corresponding responsibility.” Zhou Siyu gently bit her lip and lowered her eyes. “If… you are not ready to welcome a new life, then let’s not do it for now.”
This was an unexpected event for both of them. He wasn't prepared, and neither was Yu Wei. He didn't want to come home after a long day of work and have to take care of two children, one big and one small.
Yu Wei is not young in actual age, but he is not a child at heart. He subconsciously wants to escape when faced with difficulties, is unwilling to try unfamiliar areas, and is not independent in his thinking. He has no opinions of his own on important matters.
"Yes, I will try my best to be a good father." Yu Wei lowered his eyes, concealing the disappointment in them. "You also think I'm a failure, don't you?"
“Sometimes…you do give me that feeling.” Zhou Siyu paused, gritted her teeth, closed her eyes and blurted out, “The Yu Wei I remember is a brave, kind, tenacious, and warm person. He has ideals and aspirations, and he will fight for his ideals.”
"At the same time, he is also a very responsible person. He always talks about protecting others and would rather get hurt himself than not protect others. He is a hero in everyone's eyes."
Yu Wei opened his mouth, a thousand words stuck in his throat at this moment, wanting to squeeze them all out, but not knowing where to begin.
“But he’s just an ordinary person. He needs care from others, friends, and someone to lean on when he’s tired. He’s no different from any other person.” Zhou Siyu smiled and rested her chin on her hand. “If you want to cry, then cry. Cry out your grievances.”
"Pick yourself up, tomorrow will be another beautiful day."
Yu Wei shook his head, his eyes red and his voice hoarse, "Where are you? Can I come find you?"
“You don’t need to come looking for me.” Zhou Siyu turned her head, looking at the sky that was rarely seen among the tall buildings. “You have more important things to do.”
