"You can do it."
Yu Wei patted him on the shoulder, instructing the thug to distribute the food to everyone during lunchtime, and then walked out of the crowd.
"Boss, where are you going?"
The scarred man pursued relentlessly, his eyes filled with admiration.
He thoroughly enjoyed watching that fight.
"Don't call me boss." Yu Wei stopped and turned around helplessly. "I'm going out to scout the situation and find a place to get reinforcements. Didn't you notice there's no signal in the air-raid shelter?"
"Scouting the location?" The scarred man reacted instantly, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Take me with you, take me with you! I know this stuff..."
"Tsk, don't be so sleazy. I'm just here to seriously investigate." Yu Wei glanced sideways at the scarred man and pointed at him: "You little punk, you've got something going on. Confess honestly, how many illegal and disorderly things have you done?"
"How could that be? I'm a law-abiding citizen."
The scarred man confidently raised his hands, but facing Yu Wei's sharp gaze, he weakly added, "At most, I'll just collect some protection money..."
"Um?"
“Sometimes… we get into group fights…” The scarred man retracted two fingers, “Sometimes we go to bars… and hire hostesses…”
"gamble?"
“Occasionally playing cards…” The scarred man held up four fingers, his whole body trembling, but his face remained righteous: “But it’s just for fun among friends, definitely not gambling!”
"Why are you so nervous?" Yu Wei patted his shoulder meaningfully, shook his head and sighed.
"I...I...I'm scared..."
"Look at you, you coward." Yu Wei chuckled, slapped the man on the shoulder, turned around and strode away: "Keep these things to yourself when you explain to the police, I don't care."
"call……"
The scarred man let out a long sigh of relief and jogged to catch up with Yu Wei's pace. "Where are you going? I'll show you the way."
"Just look around."
Yu Wei waved his hand, put his arm around the scarred man's shoulder, and the two walked down the corridor arm in arm.
"Clang, clang..."
The manhole cover wobbled and was slowly pushed open, revealing a head peeking out furtively, looking around. Before long, it slowly retreated back inside.
"There's no one outside, it's safe..."
The scarred man lowered his voice so much it was almost inaudible, and, fearing Yu Wei wouldn't understand, gave an "OK" sign.
"Sneaky and furtive."
Yu Wei shoved the scarred man aside and climbed up the creaking stairs, using both hands and feet.
As soon as he poked his head out, the intense light shone on his face. Yu Wei squinted, pushed off with his feet, and flipped the manhole cover over.
"Come up."
Yu Wei lay on the ground, handed his hand to the scarred man, and pulled him down to the ground.
"Phew... I'm finally saved! Ugh, this stinks like hell!"
The scarred man kept patting his clothes, wishing he could strip off all his smelly clothes and jump into the swimming pool for a few laps.
“It takes half an hour to get here from the air-raid shelter.” Yu Wei took out his notebook and outlined the route. “This is the most densely populated community according to the statistics. Is there a shorter route than this?”
Time is of the essence. They had to move a large amount of supplies in the shortest possible time while ensuring safety, which was a huge challenge.
The scarred man tilted his head and thought for a moment, "There's another way, starting directly from the air-raid shelter entrance, but that involves going through a passage with almost no obstructions, which is very risky."
"exclude."
Yu Wei decisively crossed out the answer in her notebook. Even at night, walking on a road with no cover, wasn't it obviously telling the other person, "Hey, I'm here!" or "Look, I'm right here!"
That's just asking for death!
"Then there's nothing we can do. There's a commercial plaza between the air-raid shelter and this community. Unless we can fly there, the shortest route is definitely a straight line."
"Isn't that obvious? If we could fly, we would have shot down the rebel bombers long ago. Why would we hide down here like turtles?"
Yu Wei bit the pen cap, thought for a few minutes, and then doodled on the drawing.
The two walked around the area again. Yu Wei observed the terrain while drawing in his notebook the places where the rebels might occupy after entering the city.
Are there any other air-raid shelters in this city?
"Yes, there is one to the west, but it's too far from here."
Qinghe City is divided into two urban areas, east and west, by a river flowing from north to south. The original city planner was an extreme perfectionist. The buildings and streets in the east and west areas were exactly the same, from design to material selection to construction methods. The buildings and roads were also symmetrically distributed.
"In that case, we don't need to consider the personnel relocation plan; the risk is too great."
Why relocate people?
“Supplies are insufficient.” Yu Wei looked at the naive and silly scarred man beside him and sighed. “You can figure it out even with your toes. The rebels are definitely wreaking havoc right now. There’s no hope for supermarkets and shops.”
"As for ordinary families, have you ever seen any family buy hundreds of kilograms of meat and vegetables at once and store them at home?"
"Then what you just said..." The scarred man quickly covered his mouth, looked around, and whispered, "You were lying to us?"
"If I don't say it, am I supposed to just stand by and watch you kill people?"
Yu Wei carefully put away the notebook and pen, then rested his chin on his hand and fell into deep thought.
Finally, when the scarred man's legs were almost numb, he sighed slowly, "Oh well, let's just take it one step at a time."
"That won't do, we can't go hungry." The scarred man's brows furrowed tightly, his mouth twisted as he bit his cheek. "What if the rebels attack? We won't even be able to hold our weapons, then it'll all be for nothing!"
“You’re right, so we need to find food that’s easy to replenish our energy and also easy to carry.”
