Before they even reached the air-raid shelter, they could hear a man cursing and a boy crying in the distance. Yu Wei and the scarred man exchanged a glance and quickened their pace.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Yu Wei pushed through the crowd and managed to squeeze into the middle.
A man lay on the ground groaning in pain, blood gushing from a wound in his abdomen, soaking his thin clothes.
"Make way, make way..."
The scarred man pushed through the crowd, knelt beside the man, and gently held his head, "Fifth Brother! Fifth Brother, wake up..."
The man was pale and could not utter a word except for groans.
"I'll do it."
Yu Wei knelt down beside the man, ran his hand down the man's chest, and finally stopped above the wound. He gently pressed down on it, took the dagger from another person, cut open the man's clothes, and cut strips of cloth to bind the area above the wound.
With his well-defined knuckles, Yu Wei gently gripped the dagger and turned to look at the scarred man: "Hold him down."
"Mmm, okay, okay..."
The scarred man nodded sharply, reached out and covered the man's eyes, pressing his head down firmly.
Yu Wei took a deep breath, gripped the dagger tightly, and blood flew in a graceful arc in the air before landing on his face. Before he could wipe it away, Yu Wei used the dagger to cut open his palm and pressed his bleeding hand against the wound.
Blood seeped into the wound, and the wound healed rapidly at a speed visible to the naked eye. When Yu Wei removed his hand, the wound had miraculously disappeared.
Looking at Yu Wei again, the deep wound on his palm, which exposed bone, was healing rapidly and disappeared in no time, leaving no trace of the injury.
"It's...it's...it's amazing..."
The scarred man was so shocked he couldn't speak, his small eyes widening like saucers. "This...this is...all done?"
"It's alright, it will get better after a while."
Yu Wei felt dizzy and unsteady as he struggled to his feet and staggered a few steps.
The scarred man threw the man to another henchman, ran forward, helped Yu Wei to the wall, took off his clothes and threw them on the ground for Yu Wei to sit on.
"No need for that."
Yu Wei found it amusing, but couldn't resist the scarred man's insistence, and was forced to sit on his clothes.
"Have a seat for a bit." The scarred man beckoned to another henchman, "Fourth brother, come here."
"Brother, what are your orders?"
"Go get the General a glass of water, hurry up!" The scarred man kicked the fourth brother in the butt. "How can you be so clueless?"
"Okay, okay."
The fourth brother nodded, ran off quickly, and returned shortly with a bottle of water.
"What happened? Why is it so serious?"
Yu Wei took a sip of water and pointed in the direction they had just come from.
"Damn it, just thinking about it makes me angry." The fourth brother pointed in the direction of the fifth brother, then pointed to the boy crying beside him, "That little bastard..."
"Speak properly!"
The scarred man kicked the fourth brother in the butt and glared at him.
“That little brat… kid…” The fourth brother glanced at his eldest brother, pursed his lips, and rubbed his bottom. “That kid’s grandmother died, and the fifth brother was afraid that it would smell bad in the hot weather, so he said he wanted to drag him out and bury him.”
"That little brat... ugh! That kid was like a madman, clinging to Lao Wu and refusing to let go. Lao Wu probably dropped the dagger when he pushed him, and the kid picked it up and stabbed it into his stomach..."
"That old man is dead?"
Yu Wei frowned and slowly stood up, leaning against the wall. The scarred man quickly stepped forward to help him.
"I was already paralyzed, and I'm old, over eighty years old. Living is just too tiring..."
The fourth brother followed behind the two men, talking. The scarred man turned around and glared at him fiercely, which made him immediately shut up. After the scarred man turned back, he curled his lips indifferently.
"You're back?"
Meng Duo squatted on the ground comforting the little boy. When he saw Yu Wei coming over, he raised his eyelids slightly.
"what happened?"
Yu Wei's gaze passed over the two figures, one large and one small, and landed on the lifeless person on the ground. He frowned and sighed softly.
Mondo recounted what he had seen, which was similar to what the fourth brother had said. The only difference was that he hadn't seen where the dagger came from, nor how the fifth brother had been injured.
"Xiao Jie, is your name Xiao Jie?"
Yu Wei squatted down and patted the boy on the shoulder.
“Your grandmother has passed away. We need to take her out for a proper burial.”
The boy remained silent. Yu Wei sighed, walked around the two men to the corpse, knelt on one knee, and carefully placed the flowers from his pocket into the old man's hand.
“We are all saddened by your grandmother’s passing, but we must take her with us…” Yu Wei gave the scarred man and the fourth brother a wink, and the two stepped forward, lifting the body one after the other.
Then, Yu Wei walked to the boy's side, looking down at his thin back: "You are her only grandson. Since you haven't expressed your opinion, we'll take that as your agreement."
"Don't touch my grandma!"
The boy stubbornly stood in front of the group, raising his tear-stained face to glare at them.
"Xiao Jie, listen to me." Yu Wei squatted down and put his hand on his shoulder. "Only by burying your grandmother can she go to heaven and live happily. You must also want your grandmother to be happy."
"Grandma isn't dead..."
“She went to a very far place. After we bury her, she can live in a beautiful place.” Yu Wei held the boy’s hand. “Shall we see her off together?”
"No! Grandma's not dead!" The boy shook off Yu Wei's hand, shoved him to the ground, and ran away crying and shouting, "I hate you all..."
"Where are you going? Come back!"
Yu Wei quickly got up, but before he could take a step, a strong feeling of dizziness hit him. He had no choice but to kneel on the ground and shake his head. The boy had already disappeared.
