He was a little dazed, his mind was blank, and he couldn't remember why he was here.
After leaning against the wall for a while and staring blankly at the setting sun for a bit, his cloudy eyes slowly regained their clarity.
He remembered that there had been a bombing, and Zhou Siyu was still under the rubble...
Thinking of this, Yu Wei quickly got up. The intense dizziness forced him to lean against the wall for support. After a few more minutes, the dizziness gradually disappeared, and his blackened vision slowly cleared.
"Hey young man, that's all rubble over there. What are you going to do?" The man chipping away at the bricks grabbed Yu Wei's arm and advised, "Too many things have collapsed over there. If people are buried, they probably won't be able to be rescued..."
"No, he won't die." Yu Wei shook off the man's arm, staggered a few steps, and kept muttering, "He won't die, he's still waiting for me..." It was as if only by telling himself this could he have the courage to continue.
"He's stubborn! He was buried so deep, how could he possibly still be alive..."
Helpless, the man grabbed Yu Wei's arm and pulled him backward.
Having just experienced bombing, and with many walls still crumbling, it would be too dangerous for him to go in his current state.
"He's still alive!" Yu Wei grabbed the man's hand and slowly pried his fingers apart. "I'm going to save him."
The man was about to say something when the person next to him patted him on the shoulder and shook his head, "He's just throwing his life away, you can't control him anyway, just leave him alone."
After saying that, he sighed, turned and left, and went to another ruin to help search for people.
The man sighed, released Yu Wei, shook his head while standing still, and then turned and jumped into the crater to help.
The collapsed houses buried the once-prominent ruins, leaving only desolation as far as the eye could see.
Yu Wei was still a little dizzy and could only walk towards the direction where Zhou Siyu was buried, relying on his senses. He dug on the ruins for a long time but still could not determine Zhou Siyu's location.
As darkness fell, Yu Wei grew even more anxious. He simply sat on the ruins, released his vines, closed his eyes, and began to sense things intently.
The soft vines darted through the crevices like nimble little snakes; it was too dark to see anything.
After searching for a long time, all he could see was darkness. Yu Wei grew even more anxious. Just as he was about to continue his search, a faint breathing sound from beneath the ruins caught his attention.
"There are still living people!"
Ignoring the pain in his throat, Yu Wei called out loudly to the people not far away while retracting the vines and kneeling on the ground, digging through the ruins with his bare hands.
"Quick, quick, come over here and help!"
A group of people quickly gathered around and joined the team digging through the rubble with homemade tools.
"One, two, three... one, two, three..."
Huge concrete slabs were dug out, and the person buried under the rubble gradually came into view. It was a thin, disabled girl who was trapped under a concrete slab when the house collapsed.
Yu Wei was somewhat disappointed, but he quickly rallied, placed the girl in the makeshift shed, and immediately left to continue searching the ruins.
With the efforts of a group of people, people were continuously dug out of the ruins, but unfortunately, Zhou Siyu was not found until midnight.
"Young man, take a break..."
An old man shakily handed over a bottle of water. Yu Wei took it, thanked him, opened the cap, took a sip, and continued digging with his bare hands.
"Is the person you've found very important to you?"
As the old man spoke, he handed a damp handkerchief to Yu Wei, saying, "Wipe your face; it's covered in blood."
"Yes, thank you."
Yu Wei nodded, took the handkerchief, and wiped his face haphazardly a few times. The cold handkerchief hitting his face helped clear his dizzy head a bit.
His hands were also stained with a lot of blood, but it had dried long ago. The wounds bled and healed, bled again and healed again, repeating this cycle until he could no longer feel the pain.
Small pebbles and fragments of unidentified objects were trapped inside the rapidly healing wound before it could be cleaned up, causing itching and pain that was extremely uncomfortable.
However, he couldn't feel anything; all he wanted was to find Zhou Siyu as soon as possible and take him home.
"Who is he to you?"
Upon hearing this, Yu Wei finally stopped what he was doing, his dark eyes filled with tenderness. "He is my lover, the most important person in my life."
"These days, it's rare to see such a deeply affectionate Alpha."
A man's hearty laughter came from behind. Yu Wei turned around and recognized him as the one who threw the black brick.
Everyone knows that in an era when Alpha was a scarce resource, there were only two kinds of Alpha in the world.
One type is the Alpha from powerful and influential families who manipulate others; the other type is the Alpha from the lowest rungs of society who are traded and enslaved at will.
Clearly, Yu Wei belongs to the former category.
“I was just doing what I was supposed to do,” Yu Wei shook his head. “It’s not a matter of deep affection.”
"You've been digging all afternoon, take a break." The man patted Yu Wei on the shoulder and handed him a drink. "Have something to warm up, it'll be cold tonight with the snow."
The wine was dug out of the ruins this afternoon. I don't know whose it was, but no one cares about that nowadays.
Yu Wei took the bottle, tilted his head back and took a sip, then returned the bottle to the man before continuing to search with vines.
"Are you a half-orc?"
The men were very surprised. They were just following the directions Yu Wei had given them to rescue people and had never thought about how he knew there were survivors under the rubble.
"According to mainstream opinion, I should be a mutant, able to freely switch between human, animal, and plant forms."
"I don't care who you are, just get out!"
"You hate orcs?" Yu Wei glanced at the man, gleaned the answer from the man's murderous gaze, then turned back, closed his eyes, and continued searching, saying, "I won't leave here until I find him."
