Three days ago, at the Alliance's Ninth Planet base.
Yu Wei sat at the table, his sharp gaze sweeping over the people in the conference room. Lin Gu, to his left, kept his eyes downcast, his hand hidden behind his back constantly bothering Yu Zhen, who was sitting in the back row. Yu Zhen was annoyed by him, but couldn't lash out because of the situation.
Zuo Li on the right had a furrowed brow, his index and middle fingers pinching the teacup lid and idly tracing the cup.
“Splitting our forces into two groups is too dangerous. Let’s concentrate our forces to attack Nanyan City first, capture the rebel leader, and then go back to attack K Base. We’ll have plenty of time.” Zuo Li looked at the map and gestured, saying, “Nanyan City and K Base aren’t that far apart…”
"I object." Lin Gu raised his hand, cleared his throat under Zuo Li's gaze, "The rebel leader is too cunning. It's hard to say whether he deliberately spreads false information to attract our troops and then takes the opportunity to escape."
“He has no room to escape. If we don’t find him in Nan Yan, we will issue an arrest warrant…”
"Pfft..." The contemptuous laughter drew dissatisfaction, and everyone looked at Lin Chen sitting next to Lin Gu. The latter coughed and put his fist to his mouth, explaining, "I didn't mean to mock you seniors. It's just that the wanted poster didn't work very well."
If the arrest warrant were valid, the rebel leader should have been executed fifty years ago.
Yu Mao's expression darkened, and he looked at Yu Wei, "Chairman, what is your opinion?"
“The rebel leader has been on the run for over fifty years. We can’t let him hide for another fifty years. We must capture him this time no matter what.” Yu Wei paused for a moment and then concluded, “It would be safer to split up the forces into two groups.”
"We don't have enough troops..."
“I have my own plans for this.” Yu Wei raised his hand to stop the man from speaking, and made the final decision. “We will split into two groups. Lin Gu, Chu Yunmu, Lu Qin, Lin Chen, Zuo Li, Yu Mao, Lin Ling, and Dou Yang will stay behind to formulate an action plan. The rest of you may leave the meeting.”
The sounds of books being packed and chairs clattering were constant, but Yu Wei pretended not to notice and kept writing and drawing on his draft paper.
“Since it’s still unclear whether the rebel leader is in Nanyan City or K Base, we’ll split into two groups. Chu Yunmu and Lu Qin will be responsible for logistical support and base defense, while Yu Mao will be responsible for weapons and warship maintenance and coordination. Lin Gu, Lin Chen, and I will form one group, with me as the overall commander. Zuo Li, Dou Yang, and Lin Ling will form another group, with Zuo Li as the overall commander.” Yu Wei pulled up maps of the two locations. “This is the deployment map for K Base, and this is for Nanyan City. Teacher Zuo, you can choose first.”
“I’m going to Nanyan City.” Zuo Li was the first to decide on the location, muttering, “At my age, I’m not going to climb the sewers.”
“Then we’ll be in charge of Base K.” Yu Wei stood up and saluted everyone. “This operation is of paramount importance; success or failure hinges on this. Fellow teachers and comrades, I wish you all a triumphant return!”
Victory is certain!
Victory is certain!
Victory is certain!
The crowd raised their arms and shouted, their blood boiling, eager to immediately shoulder their weapons and rush to the battlefield.
“Yuwei…”
Zuo Li, who was walking in front, suddenly called out Yu Wei's name, took a few steps to the side, and stood in a corner.
Yu Wei took a few steps to catch up and stopped in front of him. "Teacher?"
"The danger of dispersed operations is far greater than that of a concentrated attack. Tell me honestly, if Zhou Siyu hadn't been trapped deep in enemy territory, what would you have chosen?" Zuo Li gently tapped his teacup, his sharp gaze seemingly trying to expose all the emotions he was hiding.
“Even without Si Yu, I would still choose to act separately.” Yu Wei looked at Zuo Li frankly. “Teacher, you know me. I don’t like to put all my eggs in one basket. Besides, we’re not in a do-or-die situation yet.”
After such a long stalemate, the rebel and allied forces are not far apart in strength, and the allied forces are more advanced in terms of weaponry and equipment. If they were to launch a full-scale attack on one location, they would have the strength to end the war.
Conversely, if the allied forces, operating separately, encounter a fully assembled rebel army, they may not be able to retreat unscathed. Once the rebels break through one point, they can immediately support another, creating a pincer movement against the alliance.
The situation on the battlefield is constantly changing, and the news is a mix of truth and falsehood, both for the alliance and for the rebels.
“You always leave others a way out, but what about yourself?” Zuo Li sighed. “If I hadn’t chosen Nanyan City, you would definitely have chosen it, wouldn’t you?”
“Yes.” Yu Wei nodded. “Whether it’s for the rebel leader or for Si Yu, I will choose that place.”
He had been to K base. Although the location was secluded, the forces were weak and it was not difficult to attack.
Nanyan City was an important stronghold of the rebels, as well as an important energy storage and arsenal. The rebels stationed a large force there, and the terrain was rugged, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack.
"You still prefer to tackle tough challenges."
"The teacher teaches well."
"You're so glib." Zuo Li took a sip of tea, put his hands behind his back, and gazed into the distance. "Do you think Si Yu is really..."
"What?"
"His health!" Zuo Li kicked Yu Wei in exasperation. "You're about to be a father, how can you not care about your partner at all!"
“I don’t know.” Yu Wei sighed, rubbing his face in distress. “I’m worried. I wish I could go find him right now, but I don’t know where he is.”
"Have someone inquire about it..."
"We can't find out anything." Yu Wei was even more distressed. "The spies we planted can't even reach the door of the K base."
"How could you be so useless!" Zuo Li didn't know whether he was cursing Yu Wei or the so-called nail. "No matter what, they were implicated because of us, so we have to bring them back safe and sound."
