"Tsk, if you can't beat them, you find someone to back you up. You're not being very kind, little brother." The bearded man didn't take his threat seriously at all. No matter how strong the man-eating flower was, it was still just a plant. How could it compare to a ferocious beast?
"Mind your own business!"
Yu Wei stomped hard on the big man's foot in dissatisfaction, then angrily squatted down by the wall. Even the leaves on the vines drooped and looked pitiful.
His current persona is that of a weak, pitiful, and helpless man who ekes out a living in a corner of the city after the protests. He is a pathetic little guy who is rescued by Essen, who is in a semi-vegetative state. He is also a good-for-nothing who only knows how to seek help from his older brother when he is bullied.
"Lanlian? Where have you been?" A deep, magnetic voice rang out, and a pair of large hands gently stroked the wilted leaves. "What's wrong? Did someone bully you?"
"Him! He's the one who bullied me."
The golden vine pointed at the burly man with the bushy beard, then quickly withdrew. Yu Wei composed herself, lowered her head, and said in a pitiful voice, "I was hungry, so I went to find some food, and he stole all of it from me..."
"You're framing us with nothing but empty words!" The burly man with the thick beard was furious. He leaped behind the two men in three quick steps. "Speak properly! You clearly knocked those things down yourself!"
"You're lying, I didn't..."
The slender vines trembled slightly, the tender leaves swayed in the breeze, and Yu Wei's tear-filled eyes were filled with anger and grievance. He pinched his thigh hard, perfectly portraying his weakness, pitifulness, and helplessness.
"You still won't admit it? Everyone saw it!" The burly man pointed at a bystander. "You, you tell me, did he drop it himself?"
The onlookers who were pointed at were a little confused, and pointed to themselves while mouthing "I".
"Yes, it's you, come here!"
The big man waved his hand, and when he saw that the man didn't move, he simply stepped forward, grabbed the lucky audience member by the neck, and pulled him in front of the two of them.
"Tell Captain Essen, did he drop the thing himself?"
"ah?"
The lucky audience member looked up, glanced quickly at Essen, then immediately lowered his head, his lips trembling as he remained silent.
Everyone knows that Captain Essen dotes on his younger brother, whom he just picked up a few days ago, protecting him like the apple of his eye. He even said that anyone who dares to mess with him is essentially messing with Essen.
The bearded man wasn't part of their squad and wasn't under Essen's command, but Essen was his direct superior, so he didn't dare say anything.
"Speak up! Are you mute?"
The burly man grabbed the lucky spectator by the neck, his eyes blazing with fury.
"to be honest."
Essen gave the burly man and the lucky audience a cold glance, his red eyes flashing with a chilling light.
"Yes...yes...yes..." The lucky audience member closed their eyes, steeled their resolve, and stubbornly denied it three times in a row: "I don't know, I didn't see it, I don't know!"
"you……"
The burly man with a thick beard was so angry that his face turned red. He clenched his fist, which was as big as a bowl, and was about to hit the lucky audience member in the face.
The thorny vines pierced the man's skin the instant he raised his hand, and beads of blood slid down the vines, leaving watermarks on the green tendrils.
"Ah! Blood!"
Yu Wei shouted and jumped three feet high, squeaking and yelling, using both hands and feet to quickly climb up a small tree next to the house.
"Lan!" Essen pulled back the vine in his hand, chased after the person to the tree, looked up at the person shivering in the tree, and said, "Come down quickly, it's dangerous up there."
"Blood...I'm afraid..."
Yu Wei pinched her thigh hard, and large tears rolled down her cheeks, landing on her upturned face.
"I won't hurt you, please come down." Essen helplessly wiped away the tears on his face, stretched out his hands, and patiently persuaded, "The treetop is too thin to support your weight."
"Afraid……"
Yu Wei wiped away her tears, glanced timidly at the burly man not far away, and quickly looked away as if startled.
"He wouldn't dare bully you; I've already taught him a lesson."
Essen's arms were getting tired from holding the tree up, but the person in the tree remained motionless, as if they had become one with the tree.
"Come down, I can catch you."
"Hmm..."
Yu Wei never expected to find himself in such a predicament. He closed his eyes, steeled his resolve, stretched out one foot, and jumped down with his eyes closed.
His forehead slammed into a solid chest, and Yu Wei groaned, feeling as if he had hit a wall.
"See? I can catch you."
Essen smiled and gently placed him on the ground.
To plant-type half-orcs, Yu Wei is currently equivalent to a newborn larva, a child who needs protection and patient communication.
"Thank you, brother!"
Yu Wei touched Essen's face, jumped to the ground, ran to the side embarrassedly, climbed onto the roof of the flat-roofed building, and sat there swinging his legs.
"The leader will be coming to inspect today, so just be good and follow behind me."
They refer to the commander of each operation as the leader and the organization's supreme leader as "father," which sounds rather absurd.
"Really? Can I really meet the legendary brave and tall leader?" Yu Wei's eyes lit up, like a child who had received a gift, his eyes full of surprise.
“Yes.” Essen sat down next to Yu Wei and gently rubbed his head. “It’s a pity you don’t have combat talent, otherwise you would definitely become a fierce general.”
"I'm such a useless person."
Yu Wei lowered his head, his swaying feet were no longer as cheerful as before, and he hung his head dejectedly.
"You'll definitely be amazing when you grow up."
"Really?"
"Yes, definitely."
Essen put his arm around Yu Wei's shoulder, his deep, distant red eyes gazing quietly ahead.
"Brother, you're so kind."
