As the saying goes, "a full stomach makes one feel weak," Zhou Siyu yawned after eating and drinking her fill, leaning lazily against Yu Wei's chest, her eyelids drooping.
How do we get out of here?
Zhou Siyu snuggled closer to Yu Wei, tucked her hands into his arms, and half-closed her eyes.
“The spaceship has encountered a minor problem and is temporarily unusable, but I’ve already made arrangements. The rendezvous point is in the nearest town, Xiaojiang, not far from here.” Yu Wei pulled up a map and carefully planned the route. “It would take about half a day to walk there.”
When are you leaving?
"Tomorrow at noon." Yu Wei ruffled Zhou Siyu's hair. "It's too late now, and it'll be too cold tomorrow morning. Noon is the best time."
Zhou Siyu's current condition is not suitable for long-distance walking, but he has plenty of strength and can carry him on his back or in his arms.
The main issue is with Li Jing. She's physically fine, but her stamina might be a bit lacking.
"Okay, you can arrange it."
Zhou Siyu sniffed, curled up in Yu Wei's arms, rested her head on his shoulder, and gently inhaled the cool scent of grass and trees.
Even breathing came from his arms. Yu Wei lowered his head and kissed Zhou Siyu's forehead, then pulled the trench coat covering him up a little higher. He then turned his head and quietly looked at Li Jing.
After a long silence, Yu Wei broke the silence: "Thank you for taking care of Si Yu."
"Of course." Li Jing waved her hand, turned her head to look at Yu Wei and said, "I've decided to take back my previous assessment of you."
"Hmm? Tell me about it."
“In my opinion, you are not a qualified husband at all.” Li Jing smiled: “Of course, you are not now either.”
"Indeed, I have not done well in many aspects."
For example, letting Zhou Siyu bear the unknown danger alone.
“That’s not what I meant.” Li Jing shook her head, looked at Yu Wei, and turned her head away: “He has always felt that he owes you a lot, so he has been trying his best to make up for it.”
“I never felt he owed me anything.” Yu Wei sighed softly. “I like him, and I want to take care of him. It’s my own choice, and I’m doing it willingly…”
“I hate people like you the most.” Li Jing interrupted Yu Wei. “You clearly expect others to treat you the same way, but you insist on using the guise of giving and contributing to put shackles on others in the name of caring.”
"What makes you think he'll accept your kindness without a second thought? You know exactly what kind of person he is. If you're nice to him, he'll practically rip his heart out for you to see..."
“I can’t help but be good to him.” With tenderness in her deep eyes, Yu Wei carefully moved her hand, afraid of disturbing the person in the dream. “I like him, I’ve liked him for many years. From the first time we met, I wanted to protect him, to stay by his side, and to put the best and most beautiful things in the world in front of him.”
"But I don't understand him, I've never even gotten into his heart."
Yu Wei sighed and looked at Li Jing. "Isn't it ridiculous? We've been together for three years, but we've never really gotten close to each other."
Zhou Siyu locked himself in a closed space, which others could not enter, and he himself was unwilling to come out.
He could patiently listen to others recount their past, yet he never revealed a single detail about himself to anyone. He always seemed approachable, but once you got close, you realized there was a chasm between you. He was always like this, sometimes close, sometimes distant, keeping his distance from everyone.
"I don't know how to understand a person. I know all his likes and dislikes, but I still don't understand him."
To be honest, he only knew how to be kind to others, but he never thought that this kindness would become a shackle for others.
"You're too arrogant."
"You abandoned your unit and your responsibilities, and rushed to his side without a care in the world. Did you ever think about what kind of impact this would have on him?"
“No one will know about this.” Yu Wei’s dark eyes narrowed, and his tone hardened. “Even if they did know, what could they do? With me here, no one can hurt him.”
“It’s not necessarily a sharp blade that can hurt someone.” Li Jing looked hopeless. “Words are far more powerful than cannonballs. What you’re doing is like putting him on the hot seat.”
With a formidable enemy at hand and frequent warfare, no one could possibly celebrate their extraordinary love under such circumstances. Some might accuse Yu Wei of deserting his post, neglecting his duties, and failing to prioritize the greater good. But no one dared to do so, and those in power would not allow it.
Yu Wei's positive image must not be broken or tainted in any way.
But someone has to be held accountable for this. As a result, Zhou Siyu will be thrust into the spotlight and become a public enemy. People will attack him with the most vicious language and deal with him with the most despicable means.
It was only because of his identity, and solely because of his identity.
"That day will never come." Her gentle demeanor froze instantly, her dark eyes growing even deeper, like bottomless black holes. "I will not allow this to happen."
Public opinion can indeed be a knife that wounds, but he has the ability to wield it and to make it always move in the direction he desires.
"I'll wait and see."
Li Jing shrugged. Those who drown are all good swimmers, and those who burn are all fire enthusiasts.
"Um... what are you talking about?"
Zhou Siyu rubbed her eyes and looked around with sleepy eyes.
"Let's chat." Yu Wei smiled and gently pinched the tip of his nose, soothingly whispering, "Want to sleep a little longer?"
"Hmm..." Zhou Siyu yawned, "I'm a little hungry..."
“Mr. Zhou.” Yu Wei changed his position, letting Zhou Siyu straddle his lap, and cupped his face, saying seriously, “You just had dinner three hours ago.”
