The closer Zhou Siyu got to the base, the stronger the communicator signal became, so he quickened his pace.
"One! Two! Three! Four..."
Loud slogans echoed through the sky, footsteps were perfectly synchronized, and badges gleamed in the sunlight.
A massive energy shield enveloped the entire base like a transparent bubble; outside, yellow sand swirled, while inside, lush green trees provided shade.
"Face verification failed..."
"Verification failed..."
"fail……"
The mechanical voice ruthlessly nipped Zhou Siyu's delusions in the bud. He finally understood why there were no security guards here; it was all biometric identification, and ID cards were completely useless.
"Knock! What use are you!"
The more Zhou Siyu looked at the ID card in her hand, the angrier she became. She raised her hand, intending to throw the card on the ground, when a hoarse male voice came from behind her.
"Who are you? What are you doing here?"
The sound of a pistol being cocked was carried away by the wind. Zhou Siyu swallowed hard, raised his hand, and slowly turned around.
"I...I didn't mean any harm..."
"Zhou Siyu?"
"Yu Wei?"
Zhou Siyu looked up, saw a familiar face, and jumped up in anger, "Why are you pointing a gun at me?"
“I thought…” Yu Wei put away his gun, “How did you end up here?”
"Just passing by." Zhou Siyu whistled, then casually lied, "I'm here for tourism..."
"to be honest!"
Yu Wei coughed a few times, clenching his fist and placing it near his mouth. He then slightly opened his palm, revealing a bright red mark.
"I've come to deliver your ID card."
Zhou Siyu grabbed Yu Wei's hand and stuffed the ID card into it, saying, "I'm afraid you won't be able to get in without an ID card."
"oh."
Yu Wei nervously withdrew his hand, gripping the ID card tightly, and hid his hand behind his back.
"Since you've received it, I'll be going now."
Zhou Siyu, with her hands in her pockets, walked past Yu Wei, but was grabbed by Yu Wei as they passed each other.
"You little brat, I can handle you!"
Zhou Siyu was secretly very pleased with herself, but she pretended to be puzzled and turned to look at Yu Wei.
"Ahem... It's getting late, and it's not safe outside. You should rest here for today and leave tomorrow."
Yu Wei nervously licked his lips, his ears turning bright red.
"Forget it, I'm not a staff member, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to go in." Zhou Siyu said with an air of understanding, but her eyes were full of grievance: "Besides, the station isn't that far from here, only a day and a night..."
“Come with me.” Yu Wei pulled Zhou Siyu to the door to verify, “You can sleep in my dorm tonight, no one will find out, and you can leave tomorrow.”
"So...where do you sleep?"
"I'll sleep on the floor."
Yu Wei walked ahead, and Zhou Siyu followed behind him with her head down. At this time, everyone was on the training ground, and no one noticed Yu Wei and Zhou Siyu.
"I remember you left quite early, how come you're only arriving today?"
"I had some things to take care of, so I didn't set off with Lin Gu and the others."
Yu Wei opened the door and went straight to the bathroom to wash his hands.
Before coming here, he went to the hospital to get some medicine from Qin Ge. The special inhibitors were not completely useless, but a lot had to be injected at once.
"You stay in the dorm, I'll go find you something to eat."
After washing his hands, Yu Wei left without even glancing at Zhou Siyu, uttering a single sentence.
The more Yu Wei acted this way, the more Zhou Siyu wanted to tease him. She would snatch the meat from his bowl while eating and deliberately leave his clothes behind when taking a bath.
"Yu Wei, did you... bring a change of clothes?" Zhou Siyu poked out half of her wet head, her fair face flushed red from the heat, her upturned phoenix eyes misty with moisture.
"I brought it. Wait a moment, I'll find it for you."
Yu Wei turned around stiffly, frantically rummaging through his suitcase, wishing he could bury his face in it.
He was wrong. He shouldn't have let Zhou Siyu stay overnight. This scene was really... too suggestive.
"Just wear this for now."
Yu Wei, with his back turned, handed the clothes to the door. Zhou Siyu took the clothes, and her fingers "accidentally" brushed against Yu Wei's arm. Yu Wei's hand trembled, and the clothes almost fell to the ground.
"I...I have to go out for a bit."
Watching Yu Wei flee in disarray, Zhou Siyu could no longer hold back and burst into laughter.
How can Yu Wei be so innocent? He blushes so easily when teased; he's so easily teased.
Yu Wei was enjoying the breeze downstairs when Lin Gu, who was passing by, dragged her to play ball.
"This place is really bizarre. Time seems to stand still; it never even gets dark."
Lin Gu wiped his sweat, turned on the tap, and drank half a bottle of water in one gulp.
"Be content. You can only see some green trees in the camp. You didn't see that the roads are all yellow sand."
The base is a biosphere that mimics the four seasons. The dormitories are built with special materials that automatically lower light-blocking curtains during rest periods to simulate night and day.
"Do you think the ruler of the Etolan Empire has lost his mind, choosing such a godforsaken place to build a laboratory?"
Lin Gu curled his lips. He didn't want to stay in this lousy place for another second. It was dry, hot, and sunny outside the camp, and the sweat would dry in a second.
"Let's leave tomorrow, the sooner we finish, the sooner we can call it a day." Lin Gu finished the remaining half bottle of water, stretched, and said, "How are you feeling? Why don't you stay..."
"I'm the captain, why are you letting me stay?" Yu Wei picked up a glass of water and took a sip. "I'm fine."
"Don't the commanders all issue orders from the base? Who's like you, always leading the charge at the front?"
"I'm the captain. If I don't take the lead, who will?"
