Chapter 35 Don't worry
"What are you looking for?"
After getting out of the car, Feng Qingsui stopped the child and asked.
The boy's eyes instantly turned red: "My sister is missing."
"Don't be impatient, tell me slowly," Feng Qingsui squatted in front of him, took out a handkerchief and wiped his tears, "Where did your sister go missing?"
"I have no idea."
the boy sobbed.
"She was adopted a few days ago. I asked her not to leave, but she said the family told her they could help find medicine to heal her burns. She wanted my face to heal, so she left anyway."
"I was worried, so I secretly followed their carriage and found out the address of the family. Every afternoon during the hour she was allowed to go out, I would go and spy on her."
"I went there this afternoon but didn't see her. The family has been looking for her everywhere, saying their child is missing."
"I thought my sister had come to the Salesian Home to look for me, so I went back, but I didn't see her. I went to our old home, but she wasn't there either. I looked everywhere for her, but couldn't find her..."
The more he spoke, the sadder he became. He cried so hard that he almost couldn't breathe.
Feng Qingsui smoothed his back and said soothingly, "Maybe she got lost somewhere. Take me to the places you used to go to look for her."
The boy whimpered, "Okay."
Feng Qingsui took his hand and walked to the car window, then said to Qi, "Mother, I want to accompany him in his search. Would you like to go back with the Second Master in the same car?"
Qi listened to their conversation and said compassionately, "Tell me what the child looks like. When we get back to the mansion, I'll mobilize everyone there to look for him."
Feng Qingsui gave her a rough description of the little girl's appearance.
Qi nodded, got off the donkey cart, and got on Ji Changqing's cart which was following behind.
Feng Qingsui accompanied the boy to several places, but couldn't find her sister. The boy's face became increasingly gloomy.
She bought a few buns and handed them to the boy. "Eat something first. It's getting late. The Salesian Home won't be able to find you, so they'll be worried. I'll take you back to the home first, and then we'll report to the police."
The boy's face was covered with tears: "I can't eat, wuwu..."
"Eat even if you can't. Otherwise, how will you find your sister if you starve?"
Feng Qingsui touched his head.
"Don't run out tomorrow, or you'll be caught by the beggars, and they'll come looking for you later."
"My face is burnt, and Paihanako won't want me."
"That's not necessarily true. Some beggars kidnap children to make them beggars. Even if they have healthy limbs, they will break them to gain sympathy."
The boy was frightened and agreed reluctantly.
Feng Qingsui sent him back to the orphanage and went to the government office. When she was about to report the case, the yamen runner said that the child's adoptive parents had already reported the case. She inquired about the adoptive parents' situation and then went home with Wuhua.
The people sent by Qi also failed to find the child.
While eating dinner, Feng Qingsui thought to herself that the burns on the boy's face were extremely severe. Even she could not make a cure, and could only restore the skin through skin grafting.
But the burn area was so large that skin grafting was very risky. She was not completely sure, so she never proposed it to the boy.
Otherwise, giving people hope and then making them despair would be too cruel.
If the couple really found a cure, why did they use it to lure the little girl into adoption instead of adopting her brother?
You know, in the orphanage, boys are far more popular than girls. As long as they are not physically disabled, someone will adopt them as soon as they are admitted to the orphanage.
There must be something fishy going on.
She thought for a moment and instructed Wuhua, "Go to each of the orphanages at night and check. If you can find the account books, write down the children who have been adopted recently and gone missing, and report back to me."
Wuhua took the order and left.
At night, Feng Qingsui looked at the pot of daffodils that she had just dug out of the soil a few days ago, cut out the flower buds, and planted in a celadon pot, and prayed silently for the little girl in her heart.
I hope she is safe.
Unexpectedly, Wuhua came back soon and reported: "Among the existing account books of all the courtyards, only Hua Ling was adopted. The previous account books were taken away by the second master and have not been returned yet." Hua Ling was the boy's sister.
Feng Qingsui: “…”
Wouldn't I have to ask Ji Changqing for the account book?
"Go and see if the Second Master has gone to bed."
Wuhua flew away, and after a moment he replied, "The light in the outer courtyard study is still on."
Feng Qingsui picked up some medicinal herbs, took them to the kitchen, made a bowl of soup himself, and brought it to the outer courtyard.
"Who do you think will deliver the midnight snack?"
In the study, Ji Changqing raised his head from the desk after listening to Baifu's report.
Baifu replied, "Madam."
Ji Changqing: “…”
This woman couldn't bear to share even a few wintersweets with him, and she only gave him sweaters and down jackets to ask him to bring her products. How could she be so kind as to send him midnight snacks?
If someone shows you kindness without any reason, he is either a traitor or a thief.
Could he be her next assassination target?
Ji Changqing frowned slightly and replied, "Just let her keep the soup."
Baifu went out to pass on the message, and soon returned: "The eldest lady said that she wants to trouble the Second Master with something else, and she must see the Second Master."
A sneer appeared on Ji Changqing's lips.
He knew that this woman must have other purposes.
"It's late, let's talk about it tomorrow." He said coldly.
Baifudao is.
Ji Changqing lowered his head and continued to read the documents.
He had only read half a page when he heard footsteps. Thinking Baifu had come to deliver another message for Feng Qingsui, he said unhappily, "If even one person can't handle it, what use are you?"
A light laugh rang out from the room: "Second Master, it's me."
Ji Changqing: “…”
He raised his chin, looked at Feng Qingsui who walked in gracefully, frowned and said, "Hasn't sister-in-law learned the word 'avoid suspicion'?"
In the dead of night, a man and a woman were alone in a room, and they didn't even know how to avoid suspicion!
Feng Qingsui placed the soup bowl on the table and said with a smile, "You and I are both upright and honest, so why should we fear what others say? I'm only avoiding suspicion for the sake of gentlemen. As for the words of villains, even if I hide to the ends of the earth, they will still gossip about me."
Ji Changqing glanced at the bowl of soup and saw walnuts, lotus seeds, chestnuts, wolfberries, and tangerine peel in it. His eyelids couldn't help but twitch.
Isn’t this a nourishing soup for strengthening the kidneys and internal organs?
Thinking of the glance the woman gave his waist during the day at Hongye Temple, he lowered the brush in his hand and drew a hard line on the paper.
Does this woman really think he is incapable?
Really...
He threw the pen aside, leaned back in his chair, looked straight at the woman in front of the desk, and said meaningfully, "Sister-in-law really trusts me."
Feng Qingsui happened to see the cover of the Salesian Home's account book when he glanced at the table. He focused all his attention on it, not noticing the hidden meaning behind his words. He nodded and said, "Second Master is certainly reassuring."
Because he can't do it, so you feel relieved?
Ji Changqing almost laughed out of anger.
Just when he was about to teach Feng Qingsui a lesson, she suddenly said seriously, "Second Master, I suspect someone is setting up a scam to abduct children from the Salesian Home through adoption."
Ji Changqing: “???”
