Chapter 76: Outsiders

Under the woman's gaze, Tang Anan said goodbye to the woman, turned a corner, disappeared from the woman's sight, and walked into the forest.

She lowered her eyes and thought about the various doubts in the village, and integrated this information in her mind.

This village must be strange, but who knows what secrets it hides. And the iron gate that they were not allowed to approach just now, there must be something inside that they fear but must protect.

"Have they really never gone out?" Tang Anan stepped on the branches and leaves on the ground, making a crisp sound.

Gazing at the darkness of the dense forest, she murmured, "Where are the missing village cadres now?"

Just as she was thinking, she suddenly heard the sound of branches shaking on the branches next to her. She pursed her lips, quickly stepped back a few steps, raised her head, and looked directly at the source of the sound with cold eyes.

Looking closely, she saw that it was a little girl about two years younger than her.

She was hugging the tree trunk tightly, looking at her helplessly and timidly, her lips pale and sweat dripping.

Tang Anan's expression relaxed, but he didn't completely let down his guard.

She said loudly, "It's dangerous to climb that high. You'd better come down quickly."

The little girl, clinging to the tree trunk, stared at her fearfully and asked, "Who are you? Are you here to stay in the village too?"

A glimmer of light flashed in Tang Anan's eyes, and he thought to himself: Really?

The corners of her lips curled up slightly, and she put on a sweet smile as innocent as a child, and said to the little girl, "Yes, my brother and I came here together. We want to rest here for a day before leaving."

"Why don't you come down and chat? I haven't seen friends of my age in a long time," she said.

The little girl looked at her cautiously for a few seconds, and when she saw that she showed no malice, she slowly climbed down.

Tang Anan stared at her with deep eyes, the smile on her lips not diminishing, "Hello, my name is Anan. What's your name?"

As she spoke, she suddenly moved closer to the little girl, almost face to face, and whispered, "Why do you feel a little afraid of me?"

Tang Anan tilted her head and said, "Isn't this your home?"

The little girl tugged at the corner of her washed-white clothes, kept looking up at her, and said timidly: "My name is Qiqi. This is my home, but..."

The little girl hesitated to speak, as if she didn't know whether she should say it or not.

Tang Anan took her hand and smiled, "But what? I really want to make friends with Qiqi, but Qiqi doesn't seem to like me very much, which makes me a little worried."

"No, it's not." The little girl looked at the hand she was holding, her face slightly red. She thought about it, seemed to have figured it out, and said, "I want to make friends with An An, too!"

"But...but some outsiders came to the village before. Those children laughed at me and said I was poor and unsophisticated. They even threw stones at me." As she spoke, her eyes gradually turned red.

Tang Anan gently wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, looked at her tenderly with heartache in her eyes, "How could they do this!"

The little girl felt the gentle force on her face, and her tearful eyes became bright. She said again, "An An, you are so kind."

"This is obviously your home, why don't the villagers drive them away?" Tang Anan asked in confusion.

Hearing this, the little girl's eyes flashed with confusion. She lowered her head in frustration and said, "The adults are very welcoming to these outsiders. Even if the children in the village are bullied, they don't care."

She seemed to be lost in memory for a few seconds, muttering, "It wasn't like this before. A month ago, the adults still loved us very much."
