Chapter 73 Opposition.
After releasing the paper crane, Mo Qi looked out the car window toward the research institute, his expression turning serious.
He had just sensed a strong fluctuation of demonic energy emanating from the research institute. It seemed Professor Frank wasn't just using public opinion as a weapon; he must have done something else behind the scenes.
On the other side, Mo Xiu was unaware of these anomalies. He pulled his hat brim down further, thinking that if he didn't disguise himself, he would probably be in trouble if these people discovered him.
Listening to Mo Qi was definitely the right thing to do. I always felt that this guy seemed lazy most of the time, but in reality, he was much more thoughtful than me.
With so many people rushing to their apartment, I wonder how Cheng Cheng and the others are doing.
"It's so late now, how could the news spread so fast? And isn't everyone awake? Isn't that a bit too unusual?" Mo Xiu frowned and asked the person next to her.
Mo Qi originally wanted Da Yong to come with him, but Mo Xiu refused. Thinking that the boy was a bit impulsive, it would be better to let him go with his brother, Xiong Mingyuan, since he could at least keep him in check.
The person Mo Xiu asked was none other than Xiao Hei, whose demonic energy had been drained by Mo Qi earlier. Although he had lost his superpowers, he felt that he had been spared and was now more proactive than others.
Xiao Hei looked around at the growing crowd and said, "It seems that it was instigated by Elder Zhuang that a lot of people were mobilized."
There was some kind of mobilization event tonight, it was also held suddenly, and they said that if you showed up, you might get some food, so a lot of people gathered and went out to the square. But on the way, they heard the news from the research institute.
Mo Xiu understood perfectly well what was going on. There was no such thing as something sudden; it was just someone deliberately stirring things up behind the scenes.
The research institute must be targeting him and Mo Qi. I don't know how they found out so quickly, but we can't let Cheng Cheng and the others be implicated because of them.
Not wanting to draw too much attention, he told his men to wait where they were while he quietly approached the apartment.
As they walked halfway down the road, just as they reached the spot in the backyard where they usually encouraged the growth of their plants, they spotted several suspicious figures.
Before he could react, one of the people opposite him had already rushed in front of him.
He heard a very familiar voice again, and the other person called out to him, "Brother Mo!" Mo Xiu looked closely and saw that the three people were Cheng Cheng, Xie Wu, and Xiao Wan.
"Why are you all out here?" Seeing that they were all safe and sound, Mo Xiu felt relieved, but still a little puzzled.
Then Xie Wu took out a finely folded paper crane from his pocket and said, "It's Seventh Brother. He sent the paper crane to deliver the message so we could react in time. Otherwise, we would have been trapped by these people."
"Paper cranes?" Mo Xiu's lips twitched violently upon hearing this, feeling that the line was becoming increasingly fantastical.
Even though this is the apocalypse, why does he feel like he's traveled into a fantasy drama?
But none of that matters. On the way here, he had already investigated the situation at the base thoroughly, and now that Cheng Cheng and the others were safe and sound, he was naturally more concerned about Mo Qi's situation.
“Alright, since you’re all alright, come with me,” Mo Xiu said.
"Where are you going?" Cheng Cheng asked in confusion. Only then did he notice that Mo Xiu was alone here, and Mo Qi was not following behind her as usual.
"Hey? Where's the boss? Where did he go?!"
Cheng Cheng said with some concern, just as he saw Mo Xiu turn around and prepare to leave. As she walked away, she replied to him, "Come with me, we'll see him soon."
On the other side, in the car that was about to arrive at the research institute, Xiong Gangyong looked somewhat uneasy. He suddenly spoke to Mo Qi and said, "Brother Qi, I don't know why, but I have a bad feeling."
Mo Qi raised an eyebrow upon hearing this, thinking it was the instinct of a wild animal. Sometimes, the simpler a person's mind, the stronger their intuition. It seemed he should be more vigilant.
Upon arriving near the research institute and getting out of the car, they spotted Mo Xiu and the others not far away. It seemed their beloved had once again used her wind-based abilities; they hadn't expected her to arrive so quickly.
Following behind him were Cheng Cheng, Xie Wu, and Xiao Wan. Everyone seemed fine, and Cheng Cheng even waved enthusiastically at him.
However, Mo Xiu wasn't without strength to spare. Although his ability level was not low, he couldn't use his wind-type ability to carry too many people at once. Therefore, the only people around Mo Xiu were from his team.
The others who were following me earlier have all disappeared; they're probably making their way here on foot.
Mo Qi didn't expect Mo Xiu to arrive so quickly, even though she had deliberately sent him away.
After all, this research institute was far too strange. He had also heard about his beloved's life before her rebirth, and he knew that this place was definitely not a pleasant place for her.
But seeing the young man's focused expression and his genuine concern for her, Mo Qi felt relieved. Perhaps she shouldn't have thought so much.
Xiong Mingyuan was very familiar with the environment here, so the location he drove to was close to the research institute but also very secluded. Logically speaking, they shouldn't have been discovered so quickly.
After walking a short distance, a group of people suddenly jumped out of the shadows.
Leading the group were two or three unfamiliar faces, but Mo Xiu recognized them, even though she hadn't seen them many times. It seemed they would appear whenever something important happened at the base.
His gaze swept over Xiong Mingyuan, who, as expected, had also become serious. He stepped forward and asked, "Did Elder Zhuang send you?"
Seeing this, the man in the gray jacket who was in the lead said with a slightly amused expression, "Big Bear, I think you've lost your mind. Don't you know which side you should be on? If you keep acting like this, we can't protect you either."
Upon hearing this, Xiong Mingyuan's jaw tightened instantly, and he gritted his teeth. What did he mean by "can't protect him"? In all this time, when had he ever been protected?
If Xu Liang hadn't died back then, I don't know if I would have been able to hold onto my current position as base commander.
On the surface, he still tried his best to suppress his anger and said, "Old Liang, I don't understand what you mean. It's just that there have been a lot of rumors circulating at the research institute, so I brought a friend to take a look."
"There are so many of you blocking the way. You all look so tense, isn't that unnecessary?"
Xiong Mingyuan's words clearly indicated that he hoped the other party would give him face, but obviously, the man called Lao Liang did not take his words seriously.
A look of disdain crossed his face. He chuckled and waved to the people behind him. They then formed a circle and walked towards Mo Xiu and Mo Qi.
At this critical juncture, Mo Xiu knew that further words were pointless, so he didn't waste any more time and directly sent several arcs of lightning spreading along his feet.
Then, the few people who had just been arrogantly walking towards them were instantly shocked with electricity, trembling all over as they fell to the ground.
