Chapter 2 Deterrence.
She slept for a long time, and when she woke up, she felt that she was feeling better.
Logically speaking, someone who died such a tragic death in their past life would probably be filled with thoughts of revenge.
Mo Xiu's kindness had been almost completely worn away during those days of hiding and fleeing.
At first, he didn't understand why those people betrayed him. Later, he learned that it was because of his several lucky and rapid upgrades, which eventually made him the strongest in the Mountain and River Base.
For some reason, rumors started circulating that he had a special physique and might be hiding a secret that could rapidly enhance his superpowers.
So, some people had ulterior motives and wanted to get him into the laboratory.
However, his strength was too great to deal with directly, so he came up with the idea of framing Mo Xiu, making him the target of everyone's anger.
When he was first being pursued, Mo Xiu was hesitant and didn't want to actually hurt anyone. But those people treated him without any scruples, not caring at all whether he would be injured or maimed, as if they only needed to keep him alive and take him back.
Over time, hatred continued to accumulate in Mo Xiu's heart.
He didn't know when it started, but he also learned to truly fight back. Mo Xiu no longer simply became the one being hunted down; instead, he began to retaliate against those who had harmed him.
After killing so many people, he gradually became numb. Some of those who had designs on him were killed when he attempted to take them all down with him in a suicide attack.
He would rather die, even if it meant his body was mangled and broken, than let those people have their way.
Even after being reborn, Mo Xiu's hatred did not dissipate. It was just that he was truly exhausted from killing each other in his previous life.
He didn't intend to waste all his time on revenge; in this zombie-infested world, he wasn't sure how long he could survive. Rather than expending energy on unworthy people, he'd rather live his own life.
Of course, he also wanted to find the man from his past life who foolishly protected his corpse.
Unfortunately, at this point in time, he didn't know where to look for anyone.
Mo Xiu's first impression of this man came two or three years after arriving at the Shanhe Base. He didn't know where the other man had lived before, and there was no way to rush that.
However, as long as I go back to the Shanhe Base to wait, I will always be able to meet them again.
Thinking of this, Mo Xiu rummaged through her backpack and pulled out a lot more snacks. She ate a bunch of potato chips, spicy strips, and jelly in a haphazard way until her belly was round and full, then collapsed onto the soft bed again.
The big bed in the villa was indeed different from the one in the dormitory. How come he didn't realize it in his previous life? The softness of this mattress was incomparable to that small, broken mattress in the dormitory.
He was so preoccupied with worrying about this and that that he never got to enjoy life. It's such a shame he died like that.
Enjoying the quiet moments, Mo Xiu realized that even in the most terrifying apocalypse, one can steal a moment of peace.
In comparison, he found the filth in people's hearts more repulsive than the zombie monsters.
Mo Xiu enjoyed two days of leisure in her room, eating and sleeping. On the third day, the people in the team couldn't sit still anymore.
People were talking about it, wondering what had happened to these cattle and horses that they used to be able to drive at will.
Of all these people, Xi Wenlin had the most complicated feelings.
Something's not right, this is way too wrong!
Mo Xiu really didn't leave his room for two days, nor did he inquire about anything happening in the team. Did he really not care about them at all?
Xi Wenlin believed he knew Mo Xiu quite well; she was an overly kind-hearted person with an exceptionally strong sense of responsibility.
Logically speaking, if he ignores the other person for half a day or a whole day, that person should take the initiative to come out.
He had it all planned out. He figured he could just say a few words and make Mo Xiu feel guilty, and maybe even gain some benefits in return.
After all, they'd spent several years together in university clubs, and the other person had always been very kind to him. Mo Xiu would even help him with something he'd casually mentioned, so she must have feelings for him. Otherwise, who would be so foolish?
Xi Wenlin felt a great sense of superiority because of this. However, he was a straight man and didn't like male athletes like Mo Xiu at all. He preferred gentle and beautiful girls.
Xi Wenlin was certain that Mo Xiu liked him, and deliberately did not reject him because he felt that Mo Xiu came from a good family, was usually very well-off, and was not petty, so he could get a lot of benefits from him.
Who knew that this time Mo Xiu actually stayed in her room for two whole days.
Could it be that something is really wrong with the other person's health?
Xi Wenlin wasn't really worried about Mo Xiu, but he knew that Mo Xiu was the most reliable among them.
Everyone depends on him for survival. If something happens to Mo Xiu, how will they have a good life?
He was used to putting on airs, and after being pushed out the door last time, he couldn't bring himself to go see Mo Xiu. But the food he had secretly saved was almost gone after two days, and he started to feel uneasy.
So when everyone urged him to come and take a look, Xi Wenlin did not refuse.
Under the watchful eyes of those around him, he walked with an air of composure to Mo Xiu's door, knocking as he called out, "Mo Xiu, open the door! It's me!"
Mo Xiu, who was lying in bed meditating and cultivating her supernatural abilities, frowned when she heard the sound. "They've arrived so quickly. They really can't hold their breath at all."
This was within his expectations, so he got out of bed. After opening the door, he found that his room was surrounded by a group of people; it seemed that Xi Wenlin was the representative.
"Is there something you need?" Mo Xiu asked.
"I..." Xi Wenlin was taken aback by the question and subconsciously shook his head.
Seeing that the person opposite was about to close the door again, he quickly stopped them and asked, "Mo Xiu, why haven't you gone out for two days? Are you feeling unwell?"
"No," Mo Xiu replied expressionlessly.
Noticing the expression on the other person's face, Xi Wenlin sensed Mo Xiu's displeasure. He didn't care, but softened his tone slightly and said, "Since everything's alright, go out and find some supplies. Everyone's waiting for you."
They come in and immediately tell you to do the work; that's really their style.
Mo Xiu said calmly, "What? Is someone coming with me today?"
Xi Wenlin was speechless for a moment: "This, this is of course not, it's so dangerous outside..."
Upon hearing this, Mo Xiu felt even more that her past self had been incredibly foolish, and said directly, "Do you think it wouldn't be dangerous for me to go out? No, I want to rest."
Mo Xiu's refusal was so decisive that Xi Wenlin was dumbfounded. He couldn't understand why this person, who was so easy to manipulate in the past, had suddenly changed so drastically.
"Mo Xiu, how can you say that? Someone has to go out and find supplies!" Xi Wenlin said anxiously.
"There has to be someone?" Mo Xiu almost laughed in anger when she heard this.
"What, aren't you human? Or are the rest of you not human?"
Others overheard their conversation and looked over, but Mo Xiu didn't seem to care.
Xi Wenlin's face turned pale from the rebuttal. He gritted his teeth and continued, "That's not what I meant. It's just that among us, your ability is the strongest, making you the most suitable for combat."
Mo Xiu glanced at the group of people, then smirked and decided not to waste any more words.
"So what? If I'm not around, none of you are planning to live?"
Xi Wenlin was speechless when asked the question, and the others also looked rather grim.
The old man standing to the side stepped forward and said in a tone that sounded like he was lecturing a younger person, "You child, how can you talk like that? Sending you there is a sign of trust, a sign that we're entrusting you with an important task!"
How could you betray everyone's trust like this?
An older woman next to her chimed in, "That's right, that's right. We're staying here to conserve our energy so we don't slow things down on the road when we set off."
The people around him were talking all at once, making Mo Xiu's head ache.
He didn't open the door to argue with these people; he simply flung his hand, and a bolt of lightning struck down, hitting the very old man who had been so eager to educate him.
Everyone was startled by Mo Xiu's sudden action, and the old man was so frightened that he took several steps back. He lost his balance and fell to the ground.
A deep, charred mark was left on the ground, making everyone present swallow hard.
The entire space fell eerily quiet instantly, and no one dared to shout or complain about Mo Xiu anymore.
A hint of mockery flashed in Mo Xiu's eyes before she closed the door.
Just as he had guessed, these people were protected far too well. So well that they seemed to have forgotten that this was a post-apocalyptic world where the strong were respected and danger lurked everywhere.
Because of Mo Xiu, they rarely even had the chance to face zombies directly. So a simple arc of lightning was enough to terrify them.
However, my current level of ability is still too low, and this is actually the limit I can achieve.
The entire group consisted of about a dozen people, excluding the students from the school and the survivors they encountered along the way.
Besides Mo Xiu, who possesses dual-elemental abilities, there is also an earth-elemental ability user and a water-elemental ability user. Their levels are the same as Mo Xiu's, namely level one, and their offensive capabilities are very low.
Mo Xiu, who is almost at the level two threshold, is considered the strongest.
Therefore, with Mo Xiu's current strength, seriously injuring a few people is no problem, but killing them would require a lot of effort. Dealing with so many people at once would be even riskier and more troublesome.
Mo Xiu wouldn't put herself in real danger; it would be enough for her to serve as a deterrent for the time being.
Looking at the tightly closed door, the people outside the room exchanged bewildered glances.
Their hearts were heavy, and no one bothered to pretend to be united and friendly anymore, or help the old man up.
Finally, after the old man came to his senses, he half-lying on the ground, determined to kick his wife who was standing not far away, who was still in a daze. Then, he was helped up by the old woman while cursing.
After getting up, the older woman said to Xi Wenlin with some concern, "Xiao Lin, what should we do?"
Look at Xiao Mo now, what's wrong with him? This child, how come he suddenly seems like a completely different person?
Upon hearing this, Xi Wenlin's face darkened even further. If he knew what was going on, would he be locked out like them?
At this moment, Mo Xiu, who was in the room, took out a handy iron rod that he had gotten on the road earlier from his backpack and tapped it in his hand.
He grinned, revealing a satisfied smile.
Now, it's time for them to give back and repay their debts.
