Chapter 29: Caught in the act.
Upon hearing that Mo Xiu had finally agreed to let Xie Wu join, Cheng Cheng was so excited he almost jumped for joy.
Perhaps it was fate between people, but Cheng Cheng just felt that Xie Wu was particularly pleasing to the eye. He had only jumped halfway when Mo Xiu pressed him down.
"I know you're happy, but don't be happy yet."
Mo Xiu said that although Cheng Cheng has always been a crazy person, they are still doing some shady things.
Even if they weren't afraid of being seen carrying shovels in this sparsely populated and somewhat desolate place, it would seem strange.
But the place right next to it is where they just buried the body, and dancing on a grave doesn't feel very auspicious.
Once back near the RV, in order to create the illusion that Xie Wu hadn't returned today, Mo Xiu checked the surrounding environment again.
Instead of having the other party drive the RV back to their apartment area today, he chose to have the three of them walk back.
Because Mo Xiu had the aid of wind-type abilities, they returned quickly. However, the fact that they didn't encounter many people along the way still made Cheng Cheng sigh that they were really lucky.
The three were completely unaware that their absence from encountering other people was not entirely due to luck, but rather because a divine consciousness had been protecting them all along.
Divine sense has many uses; it can be used not only for reconnaissance but also for shielding perception and even for giving hints. Although Mo Qi's people didn't appear, they still spent half the night working alongside this group.
When they arrived at the doors of the two apartment rooms, Mo Xiu didn't hesitate for long and told Xie Wu to follow Cheng Cheng directly.
Although he and Mo Qi shared a room compared to Cheng Cheng and Xiao Wan, there was actually one empty room in their accommodation.
But remembering that Mo Qi had said Bian Tai brought those people over, and that he was unhappy, Mo Xiu didn't want Mo Qi to misunderstand that she didn't care about his feelings because of Xie Wu.
More importantly, he didn't like being disturbed during his time alone with Mo Qi. He was most relaxed and comfortable when they were alone together.
Cheng Cheng didn't think too much about it. He didn't know that Mo Xiu and Mo Qi actually didn't live separately after arriving at the base, even though they had two-room apartments. They were very welcoming to Xie Wu.
Cheng Cheng grew up in an orphanage, where he slept in the same room with many other children from a young age. Later, when he got a little older, he went out to work and lived in a dormitory on a construction site.
He'd be quite lonely if he had a room all to himself now.
"Brother Xie, why don't you come stay with me? Our apartment is very spacious. Especially the room I'm sleeping in, the bed is two meters by two meters, it's huge, there's definitely enough room for both of us!"
Xie Wu smiled and nodded, thanked Mo Xiu, and then left with Cheng Cheng.
The young man was left standing alone at the door of the room, hesitant and not opening the door to go in immediately.
For some reason, the thought of bringing Xie Wu back that night made me feel inexplicably guilty.
However, I left quietly, and Mo Qi is probably still asleep. I can explain to him properly tomorrow morning about what happened tonight. I believe Mo Qi is such a good person that he will understand my decision.
Of course, if the other party doesn't understand... then we can just give Xie Wu some benefits and let him leave once things have calmed down.
As Mo Xiu was thinking, she opened the door. To her surprise, the person she expected to be sleeping peacefully in the room was sitting quietly on the sofa in the living room.
After she entered, the man turned his head and looked at her quietly.
The feeling of guilt intensified, and Mo Xiu even had the feeling of a cheating husband being caught red-handed by his partner after returning home from a date with his lover.
Mo Xiu knew that such a misconception was absurd, but he truly did have this feeling.
After a slightly awkward cough, Mo Xiu asked Mo Qi, "Why are you up so late? Did you have a nightmare and couldn't sleep?"
Upon hearing this, Mo Qi raised an eyebrow, crossed his arms, and quietly looked at Mo Xiu without saying a word.
Mo Xiu felt uneasy about Mo Qi's attitude. After hesitating for a few seconds, he decided to be honest.
She walked over to the man, sat down next to him, and said, "Mo Qi, I just went out to take care of some things."
Seeing that the person opposite her nodded after she said that, finally responding, Mo Xiu continued, "I killed Bian Tai, and also rescued Xie Wu and Cheng Cheng. Actually, it's like this..."
Having explained the whole story, Mo Xiu had no intention of hiding anything from Mo Qi. Of all the things that happened tonight, the only thing that worried him was bringing Xie Wu back.
"I didn't say anything because I was afraid you'd overthink it and worry about something so trivial. I left after you were sound asleep, but I didn't expect you to wake up anyway."
And Xie Wu, I know you don't like him. If you're unhappy, I'll make him leave.
Mo Xiu looked at Mo Qi with a hint of ingratiation and squeezed his palm.
Seeing this, Mo Qi sighed and said softly, "I understand."
He knew, of course, that Mo Xiu wasn't deliberately hiding it from him, but he was still worried.
He simply felt that if he knew in advance that the other person was going to do something dangerous, he would be prepared. Even if he was currently unable to move, he would use his divine sense to follow and protect the other person.
Although he had sensed Mo Xiu's departure both times beforehand and followed and protected her with his divine sense, what if one day he didn't notice?
"I know you mean well, but I still hope you'll tell me if something like this happens again. Or do you think I'm useless and can't help you at all..."
As Mo Qi spoke, he kept a close eye on Mo Xiu's face. He knew that this person was always soft-hearted, and he even deliberately revealed a hint of grievance in his eyes.
Sure enough, upon hearing this, Mo Xiu immediately shook her head vigorously: "How could that be? How could I think you're useless! Don't overthink it. Your presence by my side is the greatest support you can give me!"
Mo Xiu held the man's hand tightly, hoping to convey her inner feelings through it.
Mo Qi is the most important person in the world to me. If he is not important, then what is the point of my rebirth?
Mo Xiu was certain that without Mo Qi, after killing all those who had killed him, he might lose his purpose in continuing to live in the apocalypse.
But because Mo Qi was there, in this world riddled with problems, at least there was someone she cared about. There was still hope for the days to come.
"Then why don't you tell me every time? You need to promise to tell me in advance next time, then I'll believe you."
The man stared at Mo Xiu expectantly, as if he wouldn't give up until he agreed.
Faced with such a gaze, how could Mo Xiu refuse? After hesitating for a moment, she could only nod in the end.
Only then were the people on the other side satisfied.
"I knew you were the best to me!"
As Mo Qi spoke, he hugged Mo Xiu, buried his head in the other's shoulder, and breathed deeply the pleasant scent emanating from the young man.
Mo Xiu was already used to this clingy behavior. He subconsciously hugged the other man back, gently patting his back, enjoying the warmth and tranquility of the moment.
After embracing each other for a moment, Mo Xiu said gently, "Don't say such nonsense again. Believe me, you are the most important person to me."
It's still early, and it's still dark outside. Let's go back and get some more sleep.
Hearing Mo Xiu's words, Mo Qi felt a warmth in his heart and, without saying a word, pulled her back to the bedroom.
Mo Xiu is right, it is still early, so not only should I rest, but the other person should also get some rest.
Seeing that the other person was unusually quick in putting on her coat, Mo Xiu smiled and cooperated, quickly stripping down to only her vest and shorts. As soon as she lay down, she was immediately embraced by the person beside her.
A warm kiss landed on my forehead.
Upon hearing the other person say "Goodnight," Mo Xiu couldn't help but smile.
The warmth and familiar scent of the person beside him made him feel incredibly at ease, and before he knew it, he drifted off to sleep.
Mo Xiu slept soundly that night. The next day, when the sun was high in the sky, it was Cheng Cheng who had prepared breakfast and knocked on the door several times before Mo Xiu finally woke up.
Upon opening the door, one could see Cheng Cheng and Xie Wu outside. The door to the room opposite was open, and the aroma of food wafted from inside.
Then Cheng Cheng's somewhat noisy voice rang in my ears.
"Brother Mo, you're awake! Brother Xie Wu helped with breakfast today. He and Xiao Wan made it together, and it's a real feast! Come on out and eat with the boss! I'm so hungry!"
"I can tell, you're really craving it." Mo Qi rubbed his head and came out from inside, wearing loose pajamas.
He put one arm around Mo Xiu's shoulder, yawned without any decorum, and said with a smile, "It smells really good, let's go."
After saying that, he took Mo Xiu's hand.
Although he was usually pulled and hugged by Mo Qi, they rarely held hands. For a moment, he felt a little shy and awkward, but he did not refuse.
The man's palms were broad, and his fingertips were a little cold.
Mo Xiu instinctively took the other person's hands in her own and said worriedly, "Why are your hands so cold? Are you not dressed warmly enough? Don't catch a cold."
After saying that, she hurriedly went back to her room to get a coat for Mo Qi, and then the two of them went to the next room together.
As the man passed by Xie Wu, he deliberately glanced at her.
Their eyes met for a moment, and Xie Wu instantly felt an extremely strong sense of oppression, a fear stemming from biological instinct that he had never felt from another human being before.
Xie Wu subconsciously lowered her head, avoiding looking into the other person's eyes.
At this moment, he was almost certain that the person in front of him named Mo Qi was not the good-for-nothing pretty boy that Xu Liang and the others had described, who could only rely on his looks to depend on Mo Xiu.
Having witnessed Mo Xiu's abilities and the way he killed people so swiftly last night, Xie Wu even had a vague idea in his mind.
The man standing opposite him now might be an even more powerful and terrifying being than Mo Xiu!
