Chapter 69: The Plan.
"Are you inside? I'm Feng Wenkang, I have something to say."
Mo Xiu and Mo Qi exchanged a glance, both somewhat surprised that the person who came over was Feng Wenkang.
"I didn't expect this guy to be so efficient," Mo Qi said with a smile. Mo Xiu nodded in agreement and called out towards the door, "Wait a moment." The room fell silent again.
It was getting late, so the two quickly got dressed, opened the door, and saw Feng Wenkang pacing anxiously outside. Upon seeing them, he immediately put on a fawning smile.
"Brother Mo, Brother Qi, I'm sorry to bother you!" Since their last meeting, Feng Wenkang's attitude towards the two men was more respectful than ever before.
He immediately noticed the hickeys on Mo Xiu's neck and looked away. Only after Mo Qi stepped aside to let him in did he step inside.
As soon as the door closed, Feng Wenkang immediately said, "I have done everything you asked me to do." When he talked about this, Feng Wenkang's expression became much more serious.
“I’ve already investigated everything at the research institute. This is the list of people he arranged to do experiments with.” As he spoke, Feng Wenkang took out a list and handed it to Mo Qi.
Looking at the long list of names, there were more people than they had expected. And it wasn't just people with superpowers; there were also ordinary people, but without exception, only the strong and healthy were chosen. The total number was probably around two hundred.
These people were clearly involved in the experiment. Another, longer list marked those who had been in contact with the research institute for various reasons. Combined with those who had participated in the previous experimental research, the total number reached over a thousand, which is quite large.
"How are these people doing now?" Mo Xiu asked, looking at the list of names.
"Nothing unusual for now." After receiving Mo Qi's instructions, Feng Wenkang immediately sprang into action, working non-stop without daring to delay for even a moment.
It was thanks to his shrewdness and extensive network that he was able to find out so quickly. He had been doing similar registration work at the base from the beginning and had an excellent understanding of personnel movement.
His enthusiasm stemmed not only from his resentment towards Professor Frank for the terrifying "side effects" he had suffered after using the drug on him, but also from his own fear of the professor.
Knowing he couldn't handle Professor Frank, Feng Wenkang pinned his hopes on Mo Xiu and Mo Qi, hoping they could quickly deal with this troublesome professor and prevent the Shanhe Base from falling.
He didn't even want to think about what would happen if other participants in the experiment were also injected with the zombie virus like him.
"What should we do next? What else do you need me to do? Just tell me!" Feng Wenkang said somewhat anxiously.
Hearing the other person's words, Mo Qi raised an eyebrow. He hadn't given the other person many instructions, but he really hadn't expected this person to be so efficient.
So many people were investigated thoroughly in less than two days. The entire list was even compiled in great detail.
The location of these personnel and their role at the base are clearly marked.
More than a hundred people on the list are currently working for that professor at the research institute, a situation similar to that of Xiong Gangyong before him. They live and eat at the research institute and, barring unforeseen circumstances, almost never leave.
The remaining people's work and living quarters were scattered in different corners of the base, which looked surprisingly even, and it was this evenness that revealed something abnormal.
The Shanhe Base isn't a large base, but having several hundred people distributed around it is really not a small number. If it's meant to be a hub, it's more than enough.
If they all possess demonic energy, a full-blown explosion could instantly detonate the entire base.
Of course, thinking this way is the worst-case scenario. Although so many people have come into contact with the research institute during this period, it is not necessarily true that they all have demonic energy in their bodies.
The extent to which Professor Frank can control demonic energy remains to be seen.
However, many of these are high-level superhumans, who, after the transformation, would likely become advanced zombies. Even if discovered, eliminating or killing them wouldn't be so easy.
Given this situation, Mo Qi wouldn't believe that Professor Frank didn't do it on purpose.
“This guy is indeed planning something big,” Mo Xiu said.
Mo Qi nodded upon hearing this, and then heard the person next to him continue to say to Feng Wenkang: "You first help to monitor these people, especially those who have clearly participated in the experimental research, as well as the people in the research institute. Report any situation to us immediately."
If there's anything else we need you to do, we'll let you know immediately.
Upon hearing this, Feng Wenkang's mood also became somewhat heavy. He had always been perceptive, and if he hadn't quite figured out what was going on at first, after hearing Mo Xiu's words about "plotting something big," he had a pretty good idea of what was happening.
The numbers on the list and the individuals corresponding to them sent chills down his spine. He dared not slack off in the slightest when it came to Mo Xiu and Mo Qi's demands.
He immediately agreed and then left Mo Xiu's apartment.
Only after Mo Xiu and Mo Qi were left in the room did they begin to discuss their next steps.
Mo Qi's initial idea was actually quite simple. He asked Feng Wenkang to investigate the situation at the research institute because he thought that if not many people were affected, it would be better to just kill that professor and extract the demonic energy from those people's bodies, and that would be the end of it.
But I didn't expect this guy to gather so many people all at once, which is a bit troublesome.
“It seems we still have to go find Dayong,” Mo Qi said.
Upon hearing this, Mo Xiu immediately realized that Mo Qi intended to use Xiong Gangyong to get close to Xiong Gangyong's brother, Xiong Mingyuan.
After all, the other party is the base director of Shanhe Base. Now that such a big crisis has occurred in the base, having Xiong Mingyuan involved in handling it will definitely be much more effective than if they did it themselves.
But if that were the case, wouldn't it expose Mo Qi's ability to turn zombies back into humans? Such an ability would undoubtedly attract countless enemies and cause him endless trouble.
Mo Xiu understood the principle that "a common man is innocent, but possessing a treasure is a crime" better than anyone else.
After all, in his previous life, he had only improved his superpowers a little faster than others, and then people were eyeing him and trying every means to get him into the research institute, just to find out the secret of how he improved his superpowers.
No matter how he tried to explain or state the facts, the group still wouldn't let him go.
The thought that Mo Qi might also be in danger made Mo Xiu uneasy.
Although he knew Mo Qi was extremely capable, and that his own strength was also considerable, there were only two of them. Were they really going to risk their lives for these unrelated people?
Seeing the solemn expression on Mo Xiu's face, Mo Qi easily guessed what he was thinking.
The man reached out and gently stroked Mo Xiu's cheek, placing a soothing kiss on his forehead. He said, "Don't worry so much. Rest assured, these things can all be resolved, and I won't let myself get hurt. Have you forgotten that I am the Demon Lord?"
There are some things I couldn't tell you in the past, but I can tell you now. I have magic powers that allow me to form contracts.
So back when I wasn't familiar with them yet, I told you that you could trust Cheng Cheng and Dayong. It wasn't because I was easily trusting. It was because I had placed a contract on them with my divine sense, preventing them from revealing these secrets.
Not only can they not voluntarily reveal the secret, but even the slightest thought will immediately trigger a backlash from the contract.
Not wanting to worry his partner any longer, Mo Qi explained in exceptional detail this time. To be honest, he wasn't one to meddle in other people's business.
However, he knew very well that Mo Xiu still longed for the world before the apocalypse, a world without zombies or mutated plants and animals, where she could completely relax and live a simple and happy life.
Even though Mo Xiu never said it to him directly, Mo Qi still hoped to help him achieve his wish: that Mo Xiu could live a happy and fulfilling life.
Therefore, for Mo Qi, resolving the apocalypse is imperative.
"So that's how it is!" Upon hearing this, Mo Xiu's face showed a surprised expression. He never expected that there would be such a reason.
Ever since learning that Mo Qi was a demonic cultivator who had transmigrated from another world, Mo Xiu had been very worried that his secret would be discovered by others. But now it seems that the identity of the Demon Lord is really too good.
With such ability, the person you love can solve most of your worries in an instant.
They could then make a contract with Xiong Mingyuan as well, so they wouldn't have to worry about him betraying them at all. Because before he could betray them, he would suffer the consequences.
However, this also proves that Cheng Cheng and Dayong are indeed trustworthy, as evidenced by their safe and sound condition.
“In that case, let’s go find Xiong Mingyuan and the others now,” Mo Xiu said, but as soon as she turned to leave, someone next to her grabbed her wrist.
Seeing Mo Xiu's hurried manner, Mo Qi smiled helplessly: "No rush, no rush. Even if something really happens, we can go after dinner."
I can smell the delicious aroma coming from next door; Xiaowan and the others must have cooked something wonderful.
With that, Mo Qi took the hand of the person next to her and walked towards the next room.
Seeing her beloved's calm and unhurried demeanor, Mo Xiu's heart finally settled back into her stomach.
He instinctively gripped the man's hand, feeling that as long as this man was by his side, he really didn't need to worry about anything.
Although he had been reborn, Mo Xiu always wanted to be a carefree, laid-back person and live a comfortable life, and he actually did just that. But his innate sense of ease was something he and Mo Qi couldn't compare to.
