☆、Fanbian 46: You are still waiting in line at the back (Qiao Yipian)
Qiao Yi stated that the "darling" she uttered was just a casual remark and did not represent any emotional meaning.
But Song Libai stared intently at her, as if some emotions were about to burst forth. Qiao Yi placed the tableware in front of him with a bit too much force.
"Try it." She discreetly tidied the table, avoiding the man's gaze. She added, "Well, it's just a name, my catchphrase."
Although it really was just her catchphrase, her attempts to explain it only made things worse.
Qiao Yi was somewhat annoyed, wishing she hadn't said anything out of turn.
Song Libai was in a good mood, her smile undisguised. "I know." After a few seconds, she added, "Darling."
He seemed to deliberately lower his voice, and his simple address sounded like flirting or ambiguity.
Qiao Yi's heart was racing, but she just glared at him fiercely and said, "Eat quickly and stop talking nonsense."
She rested her chin on her hand, intending to savor the expression on the man's face, but he didn't change his expression at all.
She pointed to the breakfast on her plate, somewhat puzzled, "What did you taste?"
Song Libai hesitated for a moment, then shook his head and explained, "I lost my sense of taste when I was a child, so I can't taste the original flavor of food."
Qiao Yi stared at him, seeing that he didn't show any signs of sadness, and said, "Well, you should go now."
Song Libai found it somewhat amusing. He thought she would ask him why, and he was about to ask her the question when she suddenly told him to leave.
Her thought process has always been different from others.
He nodded and stood up, only turning back at the door, his voice tinged with amusement, "Yi-yi, could you come here for a moment?"
Qiao Yi frowned, somewhat puzzled, but still listened to him and took a few steps forward.
But the man gently pulled her into his arms, then quickly released her, saying, "Thank you, Yi Yi."
It all happened and ended too quickly for Qiao Yi to react. She looked up and saw the man's smiling face. She whispered a warning to him, "Song Libai, you're still in line. Don't touch me."
"Okay." The man nodded in response, appearing very sincere and earnest.
...
"Yi-yi, can we have lunch together?" Not long after I left, Song Libai sent me a message.
Qiao Yi replied decisively, "I have an appointment at noon, I'll be earlier next time."
She was serious about what she said; she genuinely made him wait in line and had no intention of giving him special treatment.
Seeing the instant rejection message, Song Libai suppressed his disappointment and replied with a simple "okay".
For some reason, he had a vague intuition that the appointment she mentioned was with that pretty boy from last time.
He couldn't just sit and wait to die, so he got up, put on his coat, and drove to the place where they had met last time.
Along the way, I had already rehearsed eight hundred scenarios in my mind: I must not threaten her, I must not force her.
You need to influence her, you need to move her, you need to use a gentle approach instead of a harsh one.
Sure enough, just as he expected, he could see the pretty boy from his car; she hadn't arrived yet.
About five minutes later, the girl got out of the car wearing a clean and pure white dress and a hat.
She looks well-behaved and innocent.
Song Libai felt as if he were soaked in a vat of vinegar, and he felt extremely uncomfortable.
He had never seen her so youthful, charming, energetic, and well-behaved; she had always been arrogant and domineering in front of him.
He didn't know what they were talking about inside, but he could see the girl's obviously radiant and cheerful smile.
Pure, fucking pure.
He wanted to see her looking at him with tears welling in her eyes, to see her misty eyes pleading pitifully with him.
A burning sensation coursed through him, his gaze growing increasingly unfathomable. He lit a cigarette, and the words "died young" involuntarily echoed in his mind.
A bitter smile crept onto his lips as he watched the cigarette drift away in his hand, and as the two figures gradually became more and more indistinct in the smoke.
He has no right to be jealous, and he cannot step forward to do anything.
He could only watch helplessly as they chatted and laughed right in front of him.
A feeling of helplessness washed over him, but the next second he saw two people come out together and walk towards the movie theater next door.
The men are young and energetic, and the women are youthful and beautiful.
They looked so well-matched it was almost blinding.
Song Libai gritted his teeth and followed behind them. Once they were out of sight, he stepped forward and asked, "Excuse me, what kind of tickets did you two buy?"
The sales clerk looked bewildered and conflicted. Song Libai smiled slightly and said, "That's my sister. I have to go and look after her."
Whether the sales clerk believed his nonsense or Song Libai deliberately wanted to flaunt her charm, she eventually told him anyway.
The theater was nearly empty; it was a comedy. He quickly found their seats and casually walked over.
He didn't say a word until he sat down next to Qiao Yi, pretending to be a good stranger.
Qiao Yi was the one who keenly sensed the aura of the person next to her, a familiar presence. She turned her head to look at his serious profile, somewhat puzzled.
They seem to be watching the movie very attentively.
And it seemed as if they were unaware of her presence.
It must be a coincidence.
After thinking for a moment, she decided not to disturb the person who was engrossed in watching the movie. Just then, Song Libai turned his head and saw her, leaning close to her ear and whispering, "What a coincidence, you're here too."
The two were very close; he spoke almost into her ear, and she felt a slight itch and numbness in her ear.
She reached out and rubbed the tip of her ear, nodded with a slight smile, and whispered in lip-reading, "What a coincidence."
After exchanging greetings, the three of them stared intently at the big screen, seemingly focused, but their minds were actually in turmoil.
The atmosphere was strangely eerie.
Just as Qiao Yi reached out to grab the popcorn and touched the man's slightly cool hand, she was about to quickly pull away when the man pressed her fingers together.
Not wanting to make any big movements and attract the attention of those around her, Qiao Yi warned with her eyes, "Let go of me."
Song Libai gently scratched the back of her hand with his little finger, seemingly flirting silently, but the strength with which he held her hand did not change.
"Song Libai," she glared at him, attacking him with her eyes.
Song Libai seemed to have a hint of grievance in his eyes, as if he were saying silently, "Can we just hold hands for a little while?"
Qiao Yi felt a pang of tenderness when she saw his expression. She turned her head away from him and stopped worrying about what he was doing.
Qiao Yi herself didn't realize that sometimes she would unconsciously lower her standards for Song Libai, and she was actually creating shortcuts for him all along.
Seeing that the girl had given in, Song Libai secretly smiled and gently wrapped his large hand around her small hand in the darkness.
