Chapter 19: Besieged (Part 2)

The man's demeanor suddenly grew stern, and his eyes changed. The gentleness he had shown when speaking to them disappeared, and in his gaze was a look that was no less ferocious than his roar.

"Wen Xi, hold your gun and follow me closely," he said calmly. "Unintentionally, follow my orders. If we're not out in half an hour, detonate the bomb."

He said it without any hesitation or reluctance, as if sacrificing himself to stop the monster underground from wreaking havoc on the world was just the right thing to do.

Jiang Chuyi felt that confused and uncomfortable feeling resurfacing. She frowned and remained silent.

Wen Xi gripped the gun tightly with a determined look on his face, and had no objection to what the man said.

However, the man and she were quite surprised at Jiang Chuyi's "obedience" and both looked at her extra.

Something flickered in the man's eyes, then quickly disappeared.

Silence fell on the other end of the line, and the loud speaker spoke again in a much softer voice: "I understand, Boss."

Just as Jiang Chuyi breathed a sigh of relief and was about to applaud for having saved his ears, the voice on the other side suddenly became louder: "You must come back safely! Otherwise, Sister Lian will tear me apart!"

This person! Jiang Chuyi gritted his teeth.

She saw this man as a quiet person, so why did he have such noisy subordinates?

The man didn't comment on this. He just nodded lightly and hung up the call.

He looked down at Jiang Chuyi, his voice cold but with a hint of tenderness: "Thank you, brave girl. Although I can't guarantee that we will survive, I will do my best to get you out safely. Don't be afraid."

Jiang Chuyi: What kind of bullshit are you talking about?

Wait a minute, why does this man look like he's misunderstood something?

It’s not that some people have misunderstood Jiang Chuyi before, thinking that she is fragile and needs careful protection.

But before this, Jiang Chuyi didn't care about anything, and there was no point in her taking those people seriously, so she didn't notice any of it at all.

And now, this man first showed his strength that attracted her attention, and then attracted her attention with his unique behavior, so the misunderstanding he had became particularly obvious.

Whether in the previous life or this life, in Jiang Chuyi's eyes, this was the first time someone treated her as a weak person. She was stunned.

The man didn't notice how much shock his words brought to Jiang Chuyi. After comforting her, he nodded to Wen Xi with a serious face, and the two had a brief silent communication.

Then the two of them spontaneously sandwiched Jiang Chuyi in the middle and protected her closely.

Jiang Chuyi: ...

Her eyes flashed, but she didn't say much. She even tried her best to retract the fluctuating energy in her body so that the zombies could not sense it.

The three men clung to the wall of the tunnel. In the silent air, heavy footsteps were getting closer and closer to them.

Accompanied by the rough and hoarse breathing of a wild beast.

Jiang Chuyi looked up at the figure who was blocking her tightly behind him, and a hint of confusion appeared in her eyes.

"Be careful." The man's voice came hurriedly, "Here they come."

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang Chuyi watched the man fly up, take the lead and rush into the thick darkness.

“Ouch—”

The hoarse voice roared loudly, shaking the entire tunnel twice more.

It is also accompanied by a strong fishy smell and a damp feeling.

Something was flowing on the ground, brain matter, blood, and... saliva from seeing fresh food.

The next second, heavy blows were heard from the darkness, each punch hitting the flesh.

Wen Xi gasped in astonishment: "What is that? Captain He is fighting against?"

Jiang Chuyi narrowed her eyes. If anyone looked carefully, they would find that her pupils were shrunk like a cat's, staring fixedly into the depths of darkness.

Human eyes can't see such a dark place, but she can.

With her eyesight, she could see that the man was fighting something that was twice his size.

It was just too dark, she could only vaguely make out an outline but couldn't see what the thing looked like.

“Ouch—”

A dagger suddenly appeared in the man's hand. He jumped up and thrust it fiercely into the neck of the thing. The thing let out an earth-shaking roar, causing the surrounding walls to collapse even more severely.

"Not good!" Wen Xi protected Jiang Chuyi, feeling caught in a dilemma, with an anxious look on his face.

There was no way out at the rear, they would only go deeper and deeper, and the front was blocked tightly by the two people fighting. They were stuck here, with no way forward or backward.

Jiang Chuyi was too short, and Wen Xi's arm blocked her view. She even stood on tiptoe to see the battle situation clearly.

The man's dagger was fast, fierce and accurate, and it did pierce the thing's neck, but the thing did not die. Instead, it continued to attack the man as if it had no feeling of pain.

It seemed to have infinite physical energy, becoming more and more energetic as the fight went on, with its speed and strength showing no decrease at all.

The man's attack gradually slowed down.

He twisted and soared in the narrow corridor, his weapons exhausted, and after a shocking collision, he flipped back to the two of them.

"Turn on the light." His hoarse voice sounded low.

Wen Xi immediately turned on the flashlight that she had been holding down in her hand. She was afraid of attracting more enemies before, but now she obviously had no such concerns.

As the thing revealed its shape, Wen Xi took a deep breath.

It was obviously a zombie, with rotten flesh and pale eyes. However, compared to ordinary zombies, it was extremely huge, with a dagger stuck in its neck and bulging muscles in its limbs, like a moving mountain.

Wen Xilu was horrified. Was Captain He actually fighting such a terrifying monster just now?

There was a playful look in Jiang Chuyi's eyes.

She could see that this was indeed not an ordinary zombie, but a second-level zombie.

Judging from the body shape, the evolution should be in strength.

Jiang Chuyi shifted his gaze to the solemn-looking man again and pondered for a moment.

Being able to fight against a second-level zombie head-on and remain unscathed, what level is this man at?

She had always thought that men had awakened their talent for speed. After all, judging from the speed at which he pounced on her, it was indeed beyond the reach of ordinary people.

But the feeling of power from the punches just now is not something that ordinary people can have.

Jiang Chuyi felt as if he was seeing a mystery.

Who is this mysterious man who is not even mentioned in the original plot?

"Wen Xi, I'll hold it back for a while, but the time is short. You must seize the opportunity and escape with her." Even now, the man's voice remained calm. He stared at the monster in front of him, his amber eyes as cold as ice. "If you manage to get out, tell Wu Yi to meet up with Su Mo immediately and report what happened here back to the main base."

"Remember, you only have five seconds."

He spoke clearly and logically, and Jiang Chuyi just listened, but Wen Xi suddenly trembled.

"Captain He..." she said dryly, "You want to..."

"One death or three deaths? The choice is easy." The man glanced back at them, his tone devoid of any last words. "Get ready."

Jiang Chuyi then realized that the man wanted to sacrifice himself to protect her and Wen Xi's safe escape.

here we go again.

That uncomfortable feeling suddenly resurfaced, making her feel uncomfortable all over.

For some reason, Jiang Chuyi didn't want to let this man have his way, so she said coldly, "Just because there's one of these things here doesn't mean there won't be more later. Are you sure you want to die with this first one?"

This was the first sentence she had spoken since she fled.

The monster in front is glaring hungrily, the collapse behind is deafening, and the girl's voice is cool, with a natural softness that is alluring.

Both of them looked at her. The situation was urgent and no one was paying attention to her. They thought they would see a nervous and crying little face.

However, Jiang Chuyi opened his dark eyes, which seemed to be sparkling with clear light even in this situation.

The man's eyes flickered, and Wen Xi showed his distressed look without any concealment.

This girl has a very unique temperament.

She was not the one in the most miserable situation, nor was she the one most seriously injured, but seeing her would naturally arouse people's desire to protect her.

The end of the world is so dark that after seeing this clean and transparent white, people will willingly move forward and try their best to get closer.

Moreover, she was able to remain rational in this situation, not crying or making a fuss, and was even calmer than Wen Xi, who came from a military background. This made people feel even more pity for her being well-behaved and sensible.

Who wouldn’t be afraid at the moment of life and death?

"If that's the case, then I can only say I'm very sorry." The man looked at Jiang Chuyi, his voice unconsciously warming up a little. "As long as I'm still alive, I will look for you and try my best to hold on."

After saying that, he took a deep breath and took off his explosion-proof glasses.

His handsome and three-dimensional facial features, like those modeled in a game, were revealed without any concealment. He had a superior nose bridge, a perfectly proportioned jawline, and distinct black hair that was a little messy due to his rough movements, but it did not affect his temperament at all. Instead, it added a bit of bewitching wildness.

He casually threw his glasses aside and made a head-on attack gesture: "Go!"

The next second, he suddenly jumped up and rushed straight to the monster's face!

Wen Xi tried hard to hold back the tears that were welling up in her eyes. Seeing Jiang Chuyi staring at the man in a daze, she grabbed her head and started rushing forward.

Jiang Chuyi did not resist. As she ran, she stared at the man fighting the monster. After seeing that he seemed to be able to hold on and even had the upper hand, she lowered her eyes as if it had nothing to do with her.

"Little sister, he is our savior now." Wen Xi seemed a little confused. She was trying hard to say something to keep herself sane. "His name is He Sizhao. We must remember him, remember him forever."

He Sizhao.

Jiang Chuyi repeated the name silently in his mind.

Well, since I came to this world, it’s rare to meet a human being who is not so useless.

What's more, there are still so many mysteries surrounding him. I have to investigate him thoroughly after I get out.

The two men squeezed through the gap between the two men fighting. Jiang Chuyi looked back and made sure that the man could indeed control the situation. Then he turned around and planned to get out of this smelly place first.

However, Wen Xi, who was running in front, suddenly stopped.

Her body couldn't help shaking, and she held Jiang Chuyi tightly with one hand, stepping back step by step.

Jiang Chuyi looked up and saw in the flickering flashlight light another zombie of the same type moving slowly, dragging something in its hand, walking towards this direction.
