Chapter 71: Not Recognizing the Person After the Kiss (Part 2)

Jiang Chuyi fell into a deep sleep and was completely unconscious.

She had never slept so soundly before. When she opened her eyes again, the sky was gradually getting brighter.

There were dead zombies everywhere, some were still intact, some were completely broken into pieces. People I knew were sitting or lying among them, without even the strength to move. Everyone's face was filled with fatigue after the battle.

Even the donut didn't have the strength to return to its smaller size, and it just collapsed there in a huge heap, motionless.

The air was filled with a thin morning mist, the light was hazy, and the air was unusually cool.

Her surroundings were very warm, because she was held tightly in someone's arms, and there was something wrapped around her. She looked down and saw that it was a combat uniform coat.

He Sizhao was holding her and sitting under a tree, with his head tilted back and eyes closed, his face a little pale.

Jiang Chuyi moved, and the person holding her woke up immediately. He suddenly opened his eyes, revealing a pair of bloodshot eyes.

Just like amber covered with dust, the originally clear and warm color is filled with a bit of blood and gloom.

Seeing Jiang Chuyi looking at him with her eyes wide open, the gloom disappeared instantly, and a warm look spread out again, but the tip of his nose suddenly turned red for a moment.

"You're awake." His voice was hoarse.

Jiang Chuyi slowly moved his body, bent his legs inward, and nodded.

He Sizhao made a move to stand up: "I'll go call Su Mo over now."

"Wait a moment." Jiang Chuyi said lazily, "I don't want to move yet. Just stay here and let me lean on you."

"But..." He Sizhao started hastily, then swallowed his words back and just tightened his arms, "Okay."

Jiang Chuyi felt that he was holding her arms a little tighter, but it was nothing to her, instead it was very warm.

She had just woken up, but she immediately felt the difference in her body.

The energy that had previously been entangled in her body like the roots of an old tree, refusing to be used by her, with its only function being to act as a time bomb, has now been completely absorbed.

A warm breath filled her whole body, warming her cold limbs and making her no longer as cold as before.

But she still didn't want to move. She had long discovered that nestling in He Shizhao's arms was the most comfortable position.

He was tall, allowing her to fit in completely without any discomfort.

She narrowed her eyes in pleasure, revealing a satisfied expression.

She was not surprised at all that the zombie tide had retreated, otherwise she would have given He Shizhao's energy in vain yesterday.

"Do you feel uncomfortable?" He Sizhao's low and hoarse voice came from above his head.

Jiang Chuyi shook his head first, then asked, "What's wrong with your throat?"

He became so hoarse after not seeing him for just one night, as if he had been roaring with all his might.

"It's okay." He Sizhao said, his voice suddenly mixed with a hint of moisture. He swallowed to hide his feelings, but he couldn't suppress the despair and sadness he felt when he saw the scene yesterday.

He buried his face in Jiang Chuyi's head.

"I'm glad you're okay." He repeated softly.

Jiang Chuyi said "oh" and lay quietly.

After a few seconds, He Sizhao adjusted his mood. Looking at the seemingly well-behaved Jiang Chuyi in his arms, the sour softness and joy in his heart slowly spread, like a flood that broke through the dam, stretching endlessly.

"Xiaoyi..."

He whispered her name.

"Hmm?" Jiang Chuyi responded.

"Xiaoyi..."

"Yeah." Jiang Chuyi responded again.

"Small……"

"He Sizhao, are you deaf?" Jiang Chuyi looked up and glared at him, "If you have something to say, say it quickly. Don't think I won't scold you just because you're injured."

Seeing Jiang Chuyi so energetic, He Sizhao, who was glared at, instead smiled faintly.

There were still scars and blood on his face, but as the morning sun reflected on him, his eyes and brows were relaxed as he smiled.

Jiang Chuyi was stunned for a moment, and suddenly the words used to describe the male protagonist in the novel she had seen before flashed through her mind.

He has sharp eyebrows and bright eyes, and an extraordinary bearing.

For the first time, she had a vague awareness that He Sizhao was really a very handsome man.

Facing her gaze, a few faint blushes appeared on He Sizhao's not-so-clean face.

He pretended to be calm, but in fact the sound of his heart beating was loud enough for him to hear.

"Xiaoyi, before you passed out last night... you kissed me." His Adam's apple kept moving up and down, revealing his restless heart as he spoke these words, with bright expectation in his eyes, "Does this mean..."

"What did you say?" Jiang Chuyi's expression was completely out of shape, and she continued to ask after seeing him stop.

He Sizhao was suddenly a little stuck.

He paused for a moment, his voice a little aggrieved: "But you kissed me yesterday."

"Is that a kiss?" Jiang Chuyi didn't understand his point at all. She was just confused. "I read in novels that a mouth-to-mouth kiss is called a kiss."

He Sizhao was suddenly choked.

His face suddenly turned even redder.

"...So why did you kiss me that time yesterday?" He changed the verb, but still couldn't suppress his grievance.

Of course it’s because I want to give you energy.

Jiang Chuyi thought so, but she couldn't say it directly. Making excuses and lying were not her forte, and she suddenly felt a little annoyed.

"If you want to kiss me, just kiss me. Why are you asking so many questions?" Her tone darkened. She reached out from her tightly wrapped coat and tried to curl her hair, but she found her white dress was covered in blood. Her face immediately darkened. "When can I get up? I need to change my dress."

She had already forgotten that it was because of her that He Sizhao did not get up immediately.

He Sizhao stared at Jiang Chuyi for a few seconds, his face visibly disappointed.

But he didn't complain at all. He resigned himself to his fate and carried her up. He first put her in the car and took out a skirt from the space for her to change.

While Jiang Chuyi was changing clothes, He Sizhao called everyone else up one after another.

This catastrophe caused them to lose three people, which was unimaginable before. When they saw this frenzy, they didn't think they could survive.

Lian Riqing's injuries worsened a bit, but at least he was still alive, and there were enough medicines in Jiang Chuyi's space, which was a blessing in disguise.

Seeing Jiang Chuyi standing out safely, Su Mo's tense expression immediately relaxed.

He strode over and hugged Jiang Chuyi in his arms, but only for a brief moment before letting her go.

"Xiaoyi, don't scare me like this next time." There was no smile on his face, but his tone was still very gentle, "If it wasn't for Brother Zhao who rescued you in time, I would never have been able to sleep in my life."

If it weren't for He Sizhao, she would have killed all the zombies.

Jiang Chuyi complained in his heart but did not refute. He nodded slowly, but his expression was a little awkward.

After experiencing this disaster, her attitude towards these people also underwent a subtle change, but she suppressed it herself.

She didn't think she had any empathy towards humans. He Sizhao was an exception because he cooked delicious food. As for the others...

She attributed this soft feeling to the weak emotions left by her original body.

Anyway, the original body was a fool who was willing to sacrifice himself for the welfare of mankind, so it’s not surprising that he would have some weak emotions.

Jiang Chuyi thought he had found a reason and his expression became natural.

As everyone gradually stood up, she felt a series of meaningful gazes falling on her.

She looked up in confusion. Everyone had a sad look on their face, yet they were looking at her with great emotion.

What is this for?

Just when Jiang Chuyi was confused, Wuyi came over with his heavy sniper rifle.

"Xiaoyi, Xiaoyi, can I take some bullets from your space?"

He still had the same loud voice, but Jiang Chuyi didn't know if it was her illusion, she always felt that his attitude seemed more... warm and intimate.

She didn't let him hold her hand. After all, it was easy to tell the difference between bullets and other things.

She dumped a bunch of bullets onto the ground: "Pick your own."

Wuyi let out a scream and squatted down to pick up the bullet.

He loaded the gun neatly while saying, "Xiaoyi, even if you encounter this situation again, don't think about sacrificing yourself..."

He sniffed, as if suppressing a sob. "Whatever difficulties we face, we'll face them together. Besides, with just a few pounds of your flesh, the zombies won't have much to eat. We won't be able to hold out for long."

Jiang Chuyi:?

She looked around in astonishment, only to find that those who were looking at her actually showed expressions of approval.

"What are you talking about?" Her tone was a little vague. "When did I..."

"It's okay, it's okay if you don't admit it. The boss has already said that you won't admit it. We just need to remember it." Wuyi stood up. Although he was so tall, the look he gave her was full of admiration and intimacy, like a well-behaved puppy. "Xiaoyi, thank you."

Jiang Chuyi: ...

Why could she understand every word this person said, but couldn't understand them when they were put together?

She was stunned on the spot, but saw Cheng Wei also coming over.

He had been protected by Cheng Yi at all costs, and surprisingly, nothing serious happened to him. He just broke his arm in the fall and was wearing a sling.

"Ms. Jiang, thank you so much..." He was more emotional than He Sizhao and Wu Yi. Tears began to fall as soon as he opened his mouth, and his voice was choked. "I'm a man, and I was so scared that I couldn't even make a sound in that situation, but you had the courage to jump out of the car and save everyone. You are really great. I admire you."

Jiang Chuyi: ...

With Wuyi and Cheng Wei taking the lead, other people who were watching also came forward one after another.

After all, they all knew Jiang Chuyi's temper. If they rashly went up to talk to her when she was unhappy, it would not be good to get scolded for no reason.

Of course, if Jiang Chuyi wanted to scold them, they had no objection at all, but of course they would rather avoid being scolded if possible.

Now that they see that Wuyi and Cheng Wei haven't been scolded, they are ready to take action.

"Yes, Xiaoyi, we all know you mean well, but don't take such risks next time. If anything happens to you, we will never forgive ourselves in this life."

"Yes, yes, we will definitely protect you from now on. Don't think about sacrificing yourself again."

"Thank you, Xiaoyi. You weren't in good health to begin with, but I didn't expect you to want to protect us so much..."

Jiang Chuyi stood there with a blank expression on his face, letting them come forward one by one to express their gratitude without saying a word.

This is a very normal thing for other people, and they don't find it strange. Instead, they look at it with even more pity.

She looked at He Sizhao, who was talking to Su Mo. They both obviously saw what was happening here, but they had no intention of stopping them. When they saw her looking over, they both smiled back.

Jiang Chuyi: ...

Is the world crazy, or is she crazy?

It was true that she didn't want them to die yesterday, but no matter what, it was not her turn to sacrifice herself for the benefit of these people, right?

She was filled with disbelief as a figure slowly approached her.

Jiang Chuyi was already numb. She raised her eyes and saw Lu Qianzhi with a unhappy expression. She was not even surprised anymore.

Just as she was waiting for the male protagonist to make a declaration of gratitude, he spoke in a hoarse voice.

"I'm sorry, Xiaoyi."

Jiang Chuyi:?

"When Major General He was covering the rear, I was supposed to be the strongest fighter in the car, but I failed to fulfill my responsibilities." His face wasn't as bright and smiling as usual, but was instead sad and tired, as if he had been tortured by self-blame all night. "I have to admit, I was a little timid when I saw those crazy zombies. I should have taken action, but I didn't. I even made you think about sacrificing yourself to save everyone. I was too weak. I'm so... sorry."

Jiang Chuyi's face was blank.

Lu Qianzhi's expression became even more bitter. "It's normal for you to look down on me, and it's understandable that you don't want my apology. But can you please give me another chance? I will never let my weak emotions affect me again, and I will improve my strength as soon as possible."

"What opportunity?" Jiang Chuyi finally spoke, "If you want to join the special forces, it's no use looking for me."

Lu Qianzhi's eyes lit up faintly: "Don't you blame me? Don't you think... I'm useless?"

Jiang Chuyi looked at him with an incredible look.

"Do I need to think about this?"

Lu Qianzhi's expression froze.

Seeing Lu Qianzhi leaving in shock, Su Mo smiled, but the smile did not reach his eyes.

"Going back now might not be a good idea," he said. "Don't tell me you haven't had your suspicions. The main base is no longer safe."

"I have to go back." He Sizhao's eyes were fixed on the white figure, and his voice was firm. "As long as she can survive, I will go anywhere."

After watching Jiang Chuyi faint, he no longer wanted to experience it a third time.
