Chapter 3
"Right, right, right. Look at my memory." The housekeeper patted his head, untied the purse from his waist and handed it to Wang Sheng. "Thank you, Taoist Wang, for your help tonight."
Wang Sheng raised his eyebrows and pointed backwards, "Can I leave now?"
The butler was a little embarrassed: "Of course."
Wang Sheng exhaled and tossed the purse in his hand upwards. The money inside was full and extremely heavy. Even if he had saved all the money for so long, it would not be half of the amount here.
He was quite happy and was planning to go house hunting tomorrow as he walked out. However, he didn't expect that just as he reached the door, it suddenly slammed shut, almost pinching his nose.
"Who? Who is so blind?"
No, was there anyone outside just now? Wang Sheng took a step back suspiciously, clutching his wallet tightly. Oh my god, is there a ghost?
His eyes rolled, and he immediately ran back to the room in a flattering manner, "Um, fellow Taoist..."
The black-robed man withdrew his hand, his face filled with disgust. The housekeeper stood by, feeling somewhat awkward. He had witnessed the man closing the door the entire time, wondering if these two weren't working together. Why were they fighting?
Wang Sheng couldn't help but realize that this man, who had appeared out of nowhere, was jealous of his wealth, so he tried to stop him and scare him. Wang Sheng tutted, folded his arms, and looked the man up and down. Then he said, "Brother, what are you doing? You saved me, so how about this... I'll give you two taels of silver, how about that?"
Two taels. Sometimes he may not earn that much in half a month. Isn't that quite kind?
He fumbled around in his purse and pulled out two taels of silver, handing it to the man. "Here."
The man glanced at him lightly, then looked away arrogantly, which irritated Wang Sheng so much that he jumped up and down. Is he really that contemptuous of others?
Man: "Butler, prepare a good room. I will come back tomorrow to ask questions."
"Okay, okay, this way please."
Wang Sheng threw the silver back into the bag, not just right, cut.
He flung his robe and walked directly in front of the man, bumping into him and saying in a bad tone, "Please make way."
The man looked calm. When Wang Sheng walked to the front, he suddenly threw a talisman on his back, and Wang Sheng froze instantly.
The housekeeper looked back in confusion, only to see the man walking around Wang Sheng and blocking his way. Fearing he might neglect the expert, the housekeeper quickly focused on leading the way.
Wang Sheng's eyes swirled around, and he watched in horror as he followed the man, his entire body uncontrollable, like a puppet on a string. No matter how he struggled, he felt like he was being pinned down by a mountain, unable to move. He felt uncomfortable and terrified.
He had thought this person was a fellow operative, just some bluffing stuntman, but he hadn't expected him to be truly capable! This time, Wang had been wrong.
But why did this person freeze him? Was he trying to kill him?
The housekeeper led them to a fine guest room. "Master, please stay in this room. Taoist Wang, please follow me."
The man walked right in and said, "No, he'll be staying with me tonight."
Butler: “Ah?” So does he know her or not?
He didn't ask any more questions. When he left, he saw Wang Sheng winking at him sideways. He didn't understand and thought Wang Sheng was practicing some secret method. A master is always different from ordinary people.
Wang Sheng watched the door close in despair. It was over. His life was going to be gone.
The fat bird flew skillfully onto the beam and chuckled at Wang Sheng: "Grandson, grandson."
The man sat down and poured himself a cup of tea. His face was dimly visible in the light, its features sharp and angular. He looked up at Wang Sheng and asked, "Are you a ghost tamer?"
Wang Sheng swallowed his dry mouth and couldn't understand what he was saying. "What ghost tamer?"
He could speak! Wang Sheng was shocked and angry, and shouted at the man: "What are you going to do to me! Killing is illegal, don't you know! I'm telling you, if I lose a hair, do you believe I will find someone to do you?"
The man said coldly: "If you are not a ghost tamer, how can you see those things?"
Wang Sheng's eyes turned, "Oh yes, I am the ghost tamer. If you know what's good for you, let me go."
Wang Sheng's words were devoid of truth, and the man frowned. He removed the sword from his back and placed it on the table with a clatter. This frightened Wang Sheng so much that his eyelids twitched, and he immediately shut up.
"Since you are also a ghost tamer, then tell me what happened tonight."
Wang Sheng: "Why should I say whatever you tell me to? Wouldn't that make me lose face?"
The man said, "You accepted so much money from this family, you should see to it. Is this what your master taught you?"
What master? He is his own master. However, in order not to show his weakness, Wang Sheng can only continue to pretend.
"Who said I don't care? I just saw that the female ghost was captured by you. Since I have nothing to do tonight, can't I just go back first?"
Wang Sheng's words were very sharp and materialistic. The man didn't want to say any more to him. Anyway, someone would punish him for his mouth in the future, so he didn't need to worry about it.
He took out a small and exquisite scale from the package, then pulled out a strand of his hair and placed it aside, and placed the paper figure transformed from the female ghost on the other side.
Originally, the paper man was much heavier than a hair, but on this scale, the paper man was not only not heavier than a hair, but was even a little lighter.
Wang Sheng was curious and asked him, "What is this?"
After the man burned his hair on the fire, he snorted, "The Infinite Scale is used to weigh souls. Since you are a ghost tamer, don't you even know the most basic magical tools?"
"This female ghost has a weak soul and an incomplete body. She must have been persecuted and murdered. You are from Zhang County. Do you know her?"
Wang Sheng became interested and automatically ignored the man's previous sarcastic words. He said, "I have only been in Zhang County for two or three years. I haven't even recognized all the neighbors yet. How can I recognize this female ghost?"
He thought about the scene he saw when he first arrived at the prefect's mansion today, and said hesitantly: "But the prefect should know her." Otherwise, why didn't this female ghost harm other people but chose to find the prefect.
The man looked at him and asked, "How can you be sure that the governor will know her?"
"Oh, if I say I know him, then I know him. Don't ask me anymore. Go ask Magistrate Zhang himself tomorrow."
Wang Sheng's face flushed suspiciously, as if he knew something terrible.
He didn't say anything, and the man didn't bother to ask. After tidying up, he blew out the candle and lay down on the bed, sleeping in an elegant posture. Wang Sheng was dumbfounded. Was he just going to sleep like this?
"Hey, no, what should I do? Let me go! Otherwise, you can't sleep tonight, I tell you!"
This man looks so good, but he is so vicious that he doesn't even let him sleep. Bah. As soon as he can move him, he will run away immediately. Isn't it enough to stay away from him?
In the darkness, a light flashed on the man. After that, no matter how Wang Sheng cursed, he remained indifferent and was not affected at all.
Wang Sheng stood there, almost unable to open his eyes in the second half of the night. He thought about all the sins he had committed in his life, and wanted to ask for forgiveness from the Buddha. He just wanted to fall into bed and sleep tonight.
At the hour of Mao, the servants in the mansion had not yet delivered the toiletries. The man got up on time, dressed, fetched water, meticulously combed his hair into a ponytail, and then meditated on the bed.
Throughout this trip, Wang Sheng stood there with his eyes squinted until it was bright outside and the housekeeper came to call for help, completely waking him up.
The fat bird flew to the back and took off the talisman. Wang Sheng staggered and fell to the ground, then hurriedly covered his lower body and ran out to find a toilet.
He cursed as he drained the water: "I slept comfortably, but I made others suffer all night. You have a vicious heart and your face is wasted."
Wang Sheng suddenly had an idea. The talisman was also taken away. Couldn't he run away?
After getting dressed, he glanced around furtively. He saw no one there, only servants sweeping the floor. He then headed back to the place where the ritual had taken place the previous night and loaded his backpack. He glanced at the incense ashes on the ground, swallowed, shuddered, and quickly left.
"I heard a woman's scream coming from this place last night."
"Don't scare me, I didn't hear anything."
The maidservant said seriously, "Really? Why would I lie to you? Besides, it sounds a bit familiar to me."
Wang Sheng hid behind the door, eavesdropping. The two maids were standing outside the yard in broad daylight, and they frightened him.
"Who does it look like?"
"Thirty-sixth..."
Their voices became lower and lower, as if they were afraid that someone would hear them and come to their door.
Wang Sheng rubbed his chin. He had been able to see ghosts since he was a child. Last night, he learned that there were also people in this world called ghost masters, who could also see ghosts and even deal with them. Most ordinary people, however, couldn't see ghosts directly. They needed the right time, place, and people to even glimpse a ghost.
In men, it is usually when the kidneys are deficient, in women it is usually when menstruation comes, in children it is when their intelligence is still undeveloped, and in the elderly, who have half their feet in the earth, they see more.
It's not certain that all these people can see it; nine out of ten are unlikely to see it. The maid was able to hear the ghost's cry last night; it must have been some kind of coincidence that allowed her to hear it.
Wang Sheng tossed the money bag given by the housekeeper. He was torn between his conscience and his desire to escape or to take care of the matter.
If he ran away now, the governor's office wouldn't hold him accountable, and he wouldn't have to wade into this mess. If he didn't run, he might lose his life and not get any benefit.
The man’s words from last night were still ringing in his ears. Wang Sheng gritted his teeth and thought, forget it, he would take the money to help him get rid of the disaster.
With a smile on his face, he took a step forward.
.
Inside the tent, someone was coughing non-stop, as if his internal organs were about to be coughed out.
Zhang Wei sat up tremblingly and asked, "Master, are you saying this is really a ghost?"
He thought about it and realized that it was a female ghost.
"Those bitches! They can't rest in peace even after death. Master, you must save me. I have a wife and children who are counting on me. I can't just die like this. By the way, I haven't asked for your name yet, Master?"
Outside the curtain, a tall and extremely cold man sat aside, with a clear profile of his handsome face.
"Time."
