Chapter 8: Flying "Is the Falcon only able to go this fast?"
This matter did not confuse Xu An for long, because she was soon attracted by another thing.
The moment he stepped into the Falcon pilot training room, the light in Xu An's eyes never dimmed.
Under the transparent protective cover on the top, clouds that can be seen floating on the side are visible. At the junction of large towering ladders and floors, there are one after another training neon pipes inserted across them.
The buzzing sound of the "Falcon" starting up rang in her ears, and the rushing wind blew Xu An's long hair away. She stood there for a long time before she came to her senses.
She turned around and asked the instructor beside her, "Sir, now that I've learned this, can I fly freely in the sky?"
"Yeah." The trainer responded perfunctorily, his fingers frantically scratching the chip.
Xu An's eyes lit up as he watched the silver-shining falcon in the light. He didn't care about the trainer's attitude and asked again, "Shall we go test drive it now?"
"Report to the front first." The training officer pointed in a direction without raising his eyelids. "Go learn the theory first, then try driving."
Xu An's eyes dimmed: "How long will it take to learn the theory?"
"It starts in a month. Once you pass the test with a score of 90, you can start the trial drive."
The smile on Xu An's face froze.
She just passed the Wuhangren assessment because of that damn theory score which accounted for 50%.
"Feng Lan dares to cheat me." Xu An wanted to let go and leave immediately, but when he turned around, the silver light roared from the neon pipe.
“…”
Xu An walked straight to the reporting office.
The press office was packed with people. Xu An took a quick look and saw all sorts of colorful skirts and pants. They looked like recent college graduates who hadn't experienced the harshness of ground missions. Of course, with the exception of Jie Shuqin, who was dressed in blue and pink.
Thinking about this, Xu An walked silently to the corner. As soon as she entered the shadows, someone walked straight towards her.
"Hello, I'm Wang Zhan, the person in charge of the mecha pilot theory class. You are Captain Xu An, right?"
Xu An was still a little uncomfortable with this address. She raised her head hesitantly, looked at the hand extended by the other party, and just nodded coldly.
The other party withdrew his hand somewhat awkwardly, pulled up the list on the chip, swiped a few times, and then turned sideways: "I'll take you to report."
"Trouble."
After passing the rooftop venue, a vast indoor area, estimated at 10 square kilometers, is surrounded by special steel walls embedded with light strips to simulate natural light. The venue is dotted with simulated obstacles, including boulders, cliffs, and grass. There's even a winding river running through the center.
Although this river channel has a certain deviation from the ground, it is very suitable for training.
Xu An calmed down a little and finally felt that Feng Lan had not lied to her. At least the training base was indeed realistic.
Wang Zhan chattered beside her, "This is the comprehensive training ground. It's closed now. Once it officially opens, we'll put in training robots that simulate alien species to improve the trainees' control of the mechas and their on-the-spot reaction abilities."
As they were talking, they arrived at the entrance passage, where various training gravity bodies stood firmly behind the glass cabinet doors.
These gravity bodies are not as large as military gravity bodies. They are only slightly larger than a normal adult male and can only accommodate one operator, but even so, Xu An was shocked.
Under the illumination of the glowing light strip, the gravity body covered with thick special steel armor hung its head and stood quietly inside the cabinet door. When the door was not opened, the light in its eyes was dim, silently waiting for instructions.
Xu An slowly approached, his fingertips touching the cabinet door, and on the other side was a steel arm covered with scratches.
"It's Dawnbreaker III. It's already ten years old and well past the age of piloting. It's the oldest mecha senior in the training base."
Generally speaking, mechas can only be piloted by university graduates aged 20 or above. Therefore, the comprehensive training base became another mandatory training location after the 14 years of compulsory education. The university students named the training mechas "seniors." Over time, everyone called them that.
Xu An nodded, then slowly withdrew her gaze. Standing at the entrance, she could see almost the entire site. Beyond the far edge lay the Falcon's piloting training ground.
Wang Zhan went on to explain: "We will first conduct theoretical teaching. After passing the assessment, you will first fly the gravity body and then the Falcon."
Xu An listened carefully to the instructions. She had never been to the training base before, having only traveled between the two residential areas. Even though she had been on many ground missions and had seen A061 use various mechas, she had never been as shocked as standing here.
Listening, Xu An suddenly turned around and asked him softly: "With these mechas, why do we still need to develop new weapons to deal with alien species?"
Wang Zhan was stunned by the question, then gave a helpless smile. "Alien species are different from us. They can evolve quickly by absorbing human brain juice and blood, even from their own kind. We humans can't do that. Besides, we know very little about the alien species right now. If we don't train quickly, there may not be a place for us in heaven."
Xu An stopped talking.
Soon, college students poured in, and their colorful clothes filled the view.
Because of his status, Xu An was transferred to the special training class and had already chosen a back seat near the side. Watching the crowd slowly gather, Xu An felt a pain in his eyes and ears. It wasn't until Wang Zhan walked in that the room finally quieted down.
After a few brief words, two three-centimeter-thick books were distributed to each person. Xu An got a headache when he saw the densely packed words, and he quietly slipped out of the classroom during the break.
After leaving, Xu An took another stroll around. The training base was well-equipped. In addition to the "Dawn III" that Wang Zhan had just introduced, there was also the "Dawn XIII" which had already been developed and was ready for mass production, with wings.
"It's a pity that wings made of steel can never be as beautiful as real wings."
A voice suddenly came from the side. Xu An looked over and saw a girl in a denim miniskirt and waist-length hair tapping the red and black gravity body in front of the glass cabinet with a chip.
"Have you seen wings?" Xu An lowered his eyes but still asked.
Ever since the alien species broke out on the ground, all creatures except humans quickly became extinct. Even Xu An hadn't seen a winged creature for a long time.
The girl looked over and said with a smile, "I'm the new biology researcher, my name is Mu Yan, hello."
Although Xu An didn't know how her response was related to his question, he still politely replied "Hello".
Mu Yan smiled and put the chip away. Two small dimples appeared on her face. She pointed in the direction Xu An had just come out and asked softly, "Excuse me, is that the Biological Research Institute over there?"
Xu An looked back hesitantly, then looked at the door not far away hesitantly, where the words "Mecha Training Base" were written in large letters.
"...This is the training base. The Biological Research Institute is in the central area." After Xu An finished speaking, he decided to be a good person and said, "I'll take you there."
Mu Yan immediately smiled and took her arm, "Thank you so much!"
Xu An subconsciously withdrew his hand, just nodded, and quickly walked ahead to lead the way.
After leaving the training base and passing through layers of neon tubes, we arrived above the central area. Looking down from above, the cars hurtling through the sky around us converged like electric currents in the tubes, while the bright sunlight filtered through the protective barriers, illuminating the entire area.
Xu An took Mu Yan to the sightseeing elevator.
"Go down to the third floor and walk straight for a hundred meters. It's here."
Mu Yan looked at her gratefully, said a few embarrassing words, and got on the elevator. Then, a shrill scream came to his ears.
“Ahhh why is it so fast?!?”
Xu An shrugged fearlessly. Of course it would be faster to go down from the 500th floor.
After seeing the person off, she silently took out a candy from her leg bag and put it in her mouth, took off her hat, and leaned on the railing.
Because of the protective cover, the natural wind could not blow in. Xu An looked at the horizon, his hair hanging down on the side of his face, moving with his chewing movements.
Suddenly, a strong wind blew, and the long hair floated from the bottom to the top. Before I could adapt, I heard a sharp voice.
"Xu An! Why are you here!"
As soon as Xu An opened her eyes, she saw a blue-pink figure throwing herself into her arms.
“…” Xu An looked down at the person in his arms, silently let go of his hand, and took a few steps back.
Instead, Xie Shuqin took a few steps forward and grabbed her wrist.
"I knew you would skip class. I win this bet." Xie Shuqin said as she pulled her aside. Just as Xu An was about to pull his hand away, he saw the "Falcon" floating in the air.
Xie Shuqin's beautiful voice rang in her ears: "Come on, I'll take you for a ride."
Xu An took another step forward.
When he sat on the "Falcon", the surroundings were filled with deafening cheers and the wind whistled against his face. Xu An looked at the huge iron lump under him moving slowly, and suddenly felt a sense of unreality.
Xie Shuqin's voice came from the wind: "How about Xu An, isn't it cool?"
Xu An's eyes lit up and he raised his arms to the sky, almost wanting to embrace Feng in his arms.
"Jie Shuqin."
"Hmm?" Just when Xie Shuqin thought she was about to start her speech or a string of words of thanks, she suddenly heard Xu An's faint voice ringing beside her ear: "Is the Falcon only able to go this fast?"
Xie Shuqin instantly felt disdainful. She curled her lips and slowly tightened her grip on the steering wheel, "I'm just worried you can't handle it. Then hold on tight, I'm speeding up!"
With a buzzing sound, the strong wind almost exploded in my ears, and a strong feeling of weightlessness filled my whole body. The resistance almost made it impossible to open my eyelids.
The falcon's powerful momentum streaked through the clouds, leaving a brilliant, flower-like image on the horizon. Xu An, hugging Jie Shuqin tightly around the waist, turned his head and saw that the flower was decorated with dozens of stick figures.
She smiled slowly, her eyes became sore from the wind and gradually turned red.
"Jie Shuqin."
"Um?"
"nothing."
