Chapter 13 Heart to Heart "Are You Willing to Believe Us?"

Chapter 13 Heart to Heart "Are You Willing to Believe Us?"

Each of them received a cold stare.

Xu An looked at Baili Yunle impatiently: "Don't try to be so close to your relatives. If you want to practice enduring the cold, go out and freeze now."

After she finished speaking, she looked at Jie Shuqin with a slightly more relaxed expression. "Because the energy of crystal cores is very convenient to store and use, the energy conversion rate is the highest discovered so far. Surface humans are very fond of using crystal cores as an energy source. Before the surface was invaded, the use of crystal core energy ranked second, almost catching up with the use of solar energy."

The two of them were both impressed by its usability and conversion rate. Simply tapping into a little supernatural power was enough to release the core's energy; even without supernatural power, fire could be used. The conversion rate was incredibly high. Plus, its compact size and portability made it the perfect energy source for ground missions.

However, the remaining information about humans on the ground is limited, and there are very few references to alien species in the information currently released by the military. Even the word "crystal core" was only seen in Yin Xiangrong's recent research report on the 胬狗.

How did Xu An know all this?

Xie Shuqin remembered what Xu An had said before about telling them everything. Even though she had many doubts in her heart, she swallowed them and did not ask any questions.

"Then there's no need to worry too much with these things. We just need to wait for the extreme weather to pass, or for the captain to rescue us." Baili Yunle fiddled with his chip and shook it off in frustration. "It's a pity that the signal is gone in the snow, so we can't use the chip to communicate. The headset was also thrown away by that damn alien just now, otherwise we could have broadcast our location to the base."

"Base?" Xu An blinked at the sound and looked up at him. "It was Feng Lan who ordered the retreat first."

"Huh? If it wasn't the captain's order, then I was the one who gave it?" Baili Yunle shrugged nonchalantly. "Anyway, I don't mind taking over his position as captain."

After he finished speaking, he suddenly realized the complaint in Xu An's words and continued, "Captain, you have to ensure the safety of the mechanics and supplies. That is related to the entire base, so it is naturally the most important thing. Moreover, we have all passed the assessment and have a certain level of ground survival ability. Although this time it all depends on you..."

Xu An laughed as he listened, but there was no smile in his eyes: "He originally wanted to take me back with him. If I left, you would become a meal for the aliens."

Baili Yunle's expression grew serious. He said seriously, "Our survival this time really depends on you. Otherwise, it would be difficult for us to break out of the alien swarm. But in fact, before this mission began, we were all prepared to sacrifice ourselves. We are soldiers, and we are fighting not only for the salary of those crappy guys, but also for the base."

"We are the last humans left in the world. If we don't unite, it will really be the end of the world."

Xu An wanted to laugh, but seeing the serious expressions on their faces, she paused and said in surprise, "Do you all think so?"

Xie Shuqin held her hand, and the cool warmth of her body came from her palm. "Although it's hard to understand, we really think so. Besides, the captain won't give up on us. Once he arranges things, he will come to search and rescue us. So Xu An, can you trust him?"

Her eyes were bright, reflecting the dim yellow light on the roof of the car, sparkling like nothing Xu An had ever seen in his eyes before.

"I don't know what you've been through. Perhaps it's hard for you to understand our thoughts. In fact, perhaps even humans before us wouldn't understand either."

"When the base was first established, the bonds between humans were completely broken. Humans were forbidden from expressing any emotions to each other; their relationships were determined solely by their genetic pairing. Even after the reproductive mission was complete, no one knew the identity of the other or the child. Babies were sent to a ground-based incubation base, where they were rigorously screened and trained according to specific occupations."

Xie Shuqin paused and said, "I think your ideas may have been influenced by the thoughts of early humans on Earth."

"I..." Xu An was stunned. She turned her head away. Her dark eyes in the rearview mirror were bottomless and without any light. "In my memory, the place where I lived was bloodless. Everyone was numb. They wouldn't take the initiative to say a word to those around them, nor would they help with any small things, let alone trust each other wholeheartedly like you do."

"Most of what I spent every day was lying on the bed, injected with anesthetics over and over again, and undergoing experiments I didn't understand. I grew up in this environment. When I first got out, I couldn't even speak, let alone the grand goals you call serving the base and humanity."

As she spoke, there was no expression on her face, but Jie Shuqin and Baili Yunle frowned.

"When I first heard Feng Lan say 'A061 won't give up on anyone,' I thought it was funny, because in my area, only a psycho would say something like that. But then, before every mission, Feng Lan would deliberately emphasize ensuring his own safety. Yang Gui would get angry over the mechanic's injury and sacrifice himself, and everyone would feel sad for him... I find it strange. Why are you so determined? Why do you have such a variety of emotions?"

"I feel a little..." Xu An lowered her head slightly, her long eyelashes trembling slightly. Her voice was very soft, like a little animal's doubtful voice: "I feel very strange."

"You feel strange, but it's actually just because the way we get along has broken your usual habits." Baili Yunle suddenly spoke.

Xie Shuqin also nodded and held Xu An's hand tighter: "There are no rules for how we get along. It just depends on what you prefer. Xu An, do you like being with us?"

Perhaps it was because of the yellow car lights, the faces of the two people looking at her seemed to be covered with a layer of soft light.

As he hesitated, a cold current suddenly made Xu An shiver.

The wound on his arm continued to bleed, dripping down his palm onto the leather car seat. Xu An covered his face tightly, his eyes flickering red. Suddenly, a strange, fishy aroma filled the car, making the other two feel drowsy.

Xu An bit his lip, opened the car door and got out.

The cold wind blew against her face, instantly waking Jie Shuqin up from the cold.

"Xu An! It's minus eighty degrees outside, where are you going?!"

Something stepped on the roof of the garage, and a thick layer of dust fell down. There was a strange smell in the air. Xie Shuqin and Baili Yunle looked at each other, put on protective clothing, and jumped out of the car.

In front of her, Xu An's steps became more and more unsteady. She supported her body, closed her eyes and leaned against the charging pile. Something on the side of her neck was faintly flashing, but Xie Shuqin didn't care about that. She immediately supported her arms and patted her face gently.

"Xu An? Are you okay?"

The long-lost chip alarm sounded again, "Bromine mist concentration has reached 113. Please wear protective clothing and be careful of bromine mist entering your mouth and nose."

Baili Yunle quickly pulled out a spare protective suit from his bag, and the two of them were about to put it on while supporting Xu An. As soon as the suit was put on his arms, Xu An suddenly opened his bloodshot eyes.

Xu An shook off the hands of the two men almost the moment he opened his eyes, and leaned tremblingly on the stake that was emitting a faint green light. The wound opened due to the violent movement, and the sound of blood dripping to the ground echoed in the quiet room.

Xu An clenched his fists tightly, his voice suppressed and low: "Don't touch me... Get out..."

"Are you affected again?" Xie Shuqin didn't move, but took a step forward. "Does it hurt? How can you feel better?"

"The bromine mist concentration is still increasing. It looks like this garage won't last much longer." Baili Yunle frowned. "Let's just knock her out first and drive away. At least we won't freeze to death right away!"

Xie Shuqin glanced at the chip showing the temperature outside was -120 degrees Celsius and gritted her teeth. "You go drive, I'll get Xu An up there."

There was a crackling sound of electric current leaking out. Xie Shuqin glanced at the charging pile that was emitting flames. While Xu An was not paying attention, she grabbed her wrist, twisted it in the opposite direction and buckled it behind her back. She wrapped her other arm around her neck and held her firmly in her arms.

The fishy smell in the air became stronger. Xu An suddenly opened his eyes and bit Jie Shuqin's wrist which was exposed due to the pulling.

The smell of blood filled his teeth, making Xu An dizzy and almost completely overwhelmed by the smell of blood.

Xie Shuqin shuddered in pain. She quickly used her other hand to pry open Xu An's teeth and pulled her wrist free. A neat tooth mark was extremely conspicuous. Xie Shuqin was just about to sigh at her quick action, otherwise she would have been bitten off a piece of flesh, when she was surrounded by a figure.

Her back hit the wall heavily. Xu An held her shoulders, blood spread all over his body, and then he bit her neck.

The sharp fangs pierced the skin, and a sense of electric current was transmitted from between the teeth. Xie Shuqin felt a tingling sensation all over her body. The high-frequency fluctuations of the supernatural power made her dizzy and her eyes swollen. She opened her eyes with difficulty, but what she met was Xu An's terrifying eyebrows.

A pair of eyes that were completely calm, showing only a lust for blood.

She suddenly felt a little scared. Xie Shuqin struggled to grab Xu An's arm, but her palms were stained with sticky blood.

Xie Shuqin instantly released her strength.

"Xu An?" She patted Xu An's face instead, "Come back to your senses...hiss, if you suck again, I'll be sucked dry by you."

The sound of alien creatures colliding above her head became more and more intense. Baili Yunle was driving over not far away. Jie Shuqin looked at Xu An and reached out to hit her neck quickly.

The person on her body felt heavy, and Xie Shuqin lifted him up quickly and swiftly, taking two steps at a time and striding into the car.

Just as she got into the car, the ceiling behind her collapsed, and snow rushed in, along with the bloody alien creature that was rushed in.

"Damn it, these aliens are hugging and biting each other!" Baili Yunle complained about the aliens with blood and flesh rolling outside the car, while driving the car recklessly in the garage and crashing through the thick snow in front of the gate.

The wipers were smoking and the car was moving extremely slowly on the snow-covered ground.

Seeing that there were more and more alien species, Xie Shuqin immediately adjusted his position, picked up his gun, lowered the window and started firing.

The scarlet blood mist obscured his vision, and the recoil pushed the car backwards a lot. Baili Yunle stepped on the accelerator to the bottom and knocked the dog in front of him away.
