The remaining men, seeing the two men mercilessly silenced by the ruthless, tall soldier, feared they would be next and immediately began to scream in panic:
"It's Brother Long! Brother Long sent us! He told us we absolutely must bring Miss Bai back!"
"Kidnapping that woman named Wenwen was also Brother Long's idea."
This feud might have started when Bai Shuang refused to join them, or when Bai Shuang killed their informant, or perhaps it was because Bai Shuang and Lu Yu got too close.
Bai Shuang knew that as long as this man called Brother Long lived, she would never have a moment of peace.
Bai Shuang kicked one of them, "Where is Brother Long now? How many men does he have under his command? Where is his warehouse?"
The man hesitated for a moment, then Bai Shuang slit his throat.
The other three immediately shouted: "The warehouse is located at No. 23 Dayan Road and No. 42 Beicheng Road..."
Lu Yu asked a few more questions, some of which the two people knew the answers to, and some they didn't.
We've asked all the questions we needed to ask, and we had no intention of leaving anyone alive. Since they answered well, we'll give them a quick death. Bai Jiu and his two guards each gave him a peanut, without discrimination.
They found out the location of the warehouse, but they still didn't know where Brother Long's headquarters were. Brother Long must be very vigilant; even his ordinary henchmen didn't know about the headquarters.
But as long as you know one thing, you can always follow the clues to find the rest.
Lu Yu had investigated and found that Director Zheng and Brother Long were not the same person, but the two were definitely related.
Brother Long is an underground gang leader in Tangcheng. Relying on his connections, he specializes in illegal activities such as murder, robbery, forced buying and selling, and even forcing women into prostitution.
This person is truly a great menace if he were to remain in the world!
As soon as they left, someone came over and started taking off their clothes—these were great for keeping warm.
Lu Yu and his group followed Bai Shuang in their car until they dropped her off at the entrance of Yichen Residential Area, before turning towards the military camp.
When Bai Shuang, Bai Jiu, and Xue Bao returned home, Bai Chang told Wenwen to wait in the living room.
Seeing Bai Shuang return, Bai Chang breathed a sigh of relief. Wenwen immediately went forward to hug her, but then stopped herself because she felt her clothes were a bit dirty.
Bai Shuang doesn't like hugging people, and seeing her stop, she didn't move forward either.
"Shuangshuang, thank you for saving me!"
"You're welcome. They kidnapped you because of you."
"It's not your fault, it's all those bad guys' fault, and it was also my own carelessness."
Although Bai Shuang's house contained many things that shouldn't have been there, which she had taken away before leaving, it was still far more than what people in the apocalypse could have.
Bai Shuang carefully observed Wenwen, without revealing any greedy look in her eyes. How could she maintain her original intention when she was also a human being?
Bai Chang had already given Wenwen some food, and seeing that she was dressed rather lightly, Bai Shuang gave her one of her own thick cotton-padded coats.
Wenwen didn't want to wear it, but seeing that Bai Shuang's family didn't lack anything, she put it on. This was actually Wenwen's first time visiting Bai Shuang's home.
"Shuangshuang, you're amazing! You managed to survive so well even during a natural disaster!"
"You're doing great too, you've even learned how to grow mushrooms."
Wenwen actually had a pretty good time at the research institute. There was food, drink, and accommodation there, and she no longer had to worry about running out of fuel, rice, or being robbed.
Although I can only eat until I'm 60-70% full at each meal, it's still pretty good.
This morning, someone told him that someone was looking for her outside, so she put down the mushroom bags she was planting and went down to check.
Snowflakes began to fall outside. The man said, "Let's find somewhere sheltered from the snow to talk."
Wenwen thought that since it was near the research institute, she should be fine, so she walked a few more steps with him. But as soon as she turned the corner, she was knocked unconscious by that man...
"Wenwen, don't leave the research institute until the underground gangs are completely eradicated."
"Okay, Shuangshuang, when do you think this natural disaster will be over?"
"I'm afraid it won't pass anytime soon; it might even last for several years."
"Ah! It's been that long?"
"Don't be afraid, I'm just guessing, but no matter how much time has passed since the disaster, remember, never leave the research institute."
The research institute is a key protected area by the state. It not only has food, but also the best guards. As long as the country and the army exist, it is the easiest place to survive.
"Okay, Shuangshuang, I'll listen to you."
Bai Shuang had Wenwen eat lunch here. She and Wenwen picked tomatoes and greens on the balcony and made tomato noodles.
There was no reason to bring out anything else, and I didn't bring cured meat or salted fish. I couldn't eat too well; a big difference in taste could easily cause psychological imbalance.
"Shuangshuang, the vegetables on your balcony are growing better than those in the research institute, really."
Bai Shuang smiled and said, "I'm born with an earth element in my destiny; vegetables grow well."
"Why are my mushrooms growing so well? What kind of fate is that?"
"Mushroom fate, hahaha..."
"Shuangshuang, you're lying to me. Where did you get the mushroom fate?"
The two chatted and laughed as they picked vegetables, as if they had returned to the campus filled with joy and laughter.
Then the two of them cooked together. Bai Shuang cooked the dishes, and Wenwen rolled out the noodles. They made two big bowls, and both of them were stuffed. Especially Wenwen, she didn't know how long it had been since she had eaten such delicious noodles, or how long it had been since she had a full meal.
"Shuangshuang, your cooking is so delicious!"
"You're doing well too, you can even roll out dough now."
She remembered that Wenwen couldn't cook before the natural disaster; it was truly a case of natural disasters forcing people to grow up.
After dinner, the two chatted for a while before Bai Jiu and the other person escorted Wenwen back to the research institute. When they left, Bai Shuang gave Wenwen a bag of popcorn.
