Bai Shuang kept praising the monkey, which made it pick even faster.
The snow leopard was a little jealous. It tried to pick the vines with its mouth, and in its haste, it even tried to lift them up along with the vines, but it still couldn't keep up with the monkey's speed.
This is truly a treasure trove; I wonder how many more surprises it will bring?
After picking for a while, the group finally finished picking most of the fruit. There were still some small ones that were not ripe, so they were left unpicked.
Bai Shuang stored the fruit in her spatial dimension and also cut several vines, storing them in her static space. She'll try to grow them sometime and see if they can survive.
Bai Shuang guessed that this must be a mutated species that grew in extremely cold weather. Nature is truly amazing!
After returning to the RV and having a meal, Bai Jiu drove the snowmobile on his way.
"Miss, you don't need to worry about anything. Go and examine those monkey fruits first, see if they're poisonous."
"Okay, my Bai Jiu wants to eat it, I'll go and look into it right away."
So, Bai Chang sat in the passenger seat, while the other two sat in the back, staring at each other with disdain.
The monkeys were fine after eating it, so it's probably not poisonous, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.
Bai Shuang sat alone in the back row, taking out a high-tech component analyzer from her spatial storage. This was something she had acquired from her own hospital before the disaster.
They focused intently on the analysis and conducted various experiments. Four hours passed, and around two or three o'clock in the afternoon, Bai Shuang's research results came out.
Not only is it non-toxic and rich in vitamins, but it also has excellent heat-clearing and detoxifying effects.
By this time, everyone was hungry, so they decided to stop the car and eat.
After everyone got out of the car, they first stretched their muscles in the snow. The snow leopard chased the monkeys around. In terms of running and explosive power, the monkeys couldn't catch up with the snow leopards even if they tried to lift their shoes. But the monkeys were more agile, so even the snow leopards couldn't do anything to them.
After playing for a while, Bai Shuang released the RV, and everyone went inside to prepare for dinner.
Because snowmobiles are too small and inconvenient for eating, motorhomes are more suitable for living.
Today we're having dumplings, and we're also taking out a large plate of green vegetables.
Give those two the bland dumplings that I used to make for the snow leopard.
The monkey king was eating the most heartily, but as it ate, it stole a piece from the snow leopard's bowl. The snow leopard bared its teeth at it, and the monkey king was so frightened that it quickly hid behind Bai Shuang.
"Don't be so cocky, the snow leopard is much stronger than you."
"Go, return their dumplings."
Reluctantly, it took a dumpling and returned it to the snow leopard.
The snow leopard even bared its teeth as a warning before it finally gave up.
After the meal, Bai Jiu couldn't wait to wash a large plate of monkey fruit, which everyone then ate.
It's sweet, and the flesh is a bit like dragon fruit; it tastes quite good.
The monkey offered one to the snow leopard, which took it with its mouth, tilting its head back slightly – that was more like it.
With these two around, the journey is going to be interesting from now on.
Bai Jiu also told the monkey, "Follow me, and if the snow leopard bullies you in the future, I'll back you up."
Snow leopard, woof woof, watch out or I'll take care of you both!
After the meal, the three of them took the two animals and continued on their way, as they should be close to leaving the Qinling Mountains.
Bai Jiu said, "Miss, maybe we can get out of the Qinling Mountains tomorrow."
"I hope so."
But before they had gone far, they came to a three-way intersection.
"Miss, which way should we go?"
Bai Shuang got out of the car, looked around carefully, and based on her intuition, she should go to the right.
"Let's go to the right."
Just as Bai Shuang was about to get on the bus, she saw an old man using a plank to pull a large bundle of firewood, slowly sliding down the slope.
As he got closer, he saw Bai Shuang and the others and was surprised. He hadn't expected that anyone would be driving in such a heavy snowstorm!
Bai Chang handed over a packet of instant noodles. "Uncle, I'd like to ask you something."
The old man's eyes lit up when he saw the instant noodles, and he quickly grabbed them and put them in his pocket.
"Ask away, I'll tell you everything I know."
"Which road is easier to walk on here?"
"If you want to go for the flattest route, go to the left. The middle route is generally okay, but the right route is the most difficult."
However, checkpoints were set up in the middle of all three roads.
Those on the left are the most ruthless; it's difficult to get past them. The group in the middle is better than the left; they don't kill much, but their tolls are still high.
"The road on the right is narrower, but these people are alright; they're not too worried. Even if they run out of food, they can cut a bundle of firewood and send it up, and they can get through."
What the old man said was similar to what Bai Shuang felt, so in the end they still took the right-hand path.
Although the road is not wide, it is wide enough for cars to pass.
Bai Shuang put the monkey and snow leopard into her spatial storage; otherwise, anyone who saw this lineup would know they were easy prey and should be taken advantage of.
After the car entered the mountain road, it took about an hour, or maybe ten miles, to see five or six people blocking the road with signs.
Bai Chang stepped forward and asked, "How much?"
The man looked into the vehicle and said, "Each person gets two jin of grain, but the vehicle counts as one person, so it's a total of eight jin."
The old man was right after all; he wasn't asking for too much, but we still had to try to get even less so that no one would know we were easy prey.
"Look, we don't have much food, and there are three of us to eat. How about five jin? We'll have to squeeze out five jin."
"Who are you kidding? These days, there aren't many people who can still afford a car."
Fortunately, Bai Shuang and the other two had their faces covered up completely; otherwise, with their rosy complexions, they would have been impossible to fool.
The man was about to say something when the person next to him, who seemed to be the leader, said, "Alright, five jin it is."
With the heavy snow, there are very few pedestrians on the road. It's better to collect something than nothing.
Bai Shuang took out five jin of cold-resistant potatoes and gave them to Bai Chang. He took them and was about to hand them over when the leader suddenly said, "Why does your action look so familiar? Do you know anyone from the Bai family?"
Bai Shuang and the others were also taken aback. Could it be that they had run into someone they knew? Was he an enemy or a friend?
