Chapter 39 Strolling Through the Border Market

Bai Jiu: "It would be great if there was another gas station."

Bai Chang: "Stop dreaming about getting married. Even if you find another gas station, you can't win her back. Today was just a lucky day."

If it weren't for those oil tankers on the ground, we would have gone home empty-handed today.

Bai Shuang: "There's no need to deliberately look for anything. If you come across something, accept it; if you don't, don't."

Bai Jiu: "The main problem is that if I don't look now, I'm worried I won't be able to find one later."

This kid is good at planning ahead.

Bai Shuang: "Don't worry, even if you don't find a wife, you won't go hungry. I'll even save some money for you to get married in the future."

"What are you saying? I don't want a wife," Bai Jiu said, feeling ashamed and indignant.

Everyone laughed.

Later, I cooked two more bowls of dumplings and asked Bai Jiu to take them to the soldier upstairs to thank him for watching the house today.

After the meal, Bai Shuang took the snow leopard into the space to digest. She then reorganized the oil tankers she had collected that day. As expected, all eight tankers were full. According to the markings, five were diesel tankers and three were gasoline tankers.

It's already April 7th, and the border market is open again. Bai Shuang is taking Bai Chang, Bai Jiu, and Doctor An to check it out, but she's not bringing Xue Bao along, as he'll attract too much attention.

I wanted to see what I could trade, mainly to see if there were still any normal people coming and going here, to evoke some memories of the pre-apocalyptic world.

Some people traded gold, silver, and jade for grain, and Bai Shuang did the same; she hadn't even finished processing her water-scooped rice yet.

They brought the old man several dozen kilograms of water-soaked rice and exchanged it for ten pieces of jade. The ox was still selling things, but he no longer sold rice or asked for money.

Bai Shuang also asked Huang Niu to help her get a set of papermaking tools. She wanted to make mulberry bark paper, which was the best for rolling moxa sticks. The stock of those would eventually run out.

As they walked forward together, Bai Jiu suddenly said, "Miss, isn't that our Ai Xiang?"

Bai Shuang looked up and realized it was true.

"How much is the mugwort incense?"

"The regular ones weigh 3 jin of grain each, while the special ones weigh 6 jin each."

As he spoke, the man gestured wildly with his hands and feet.

"Let me tell you, don't just look at the high price. I'll let you in on a secret: this was made by a reclusive master. It can ward off disasters and evil spirits and cure all diseases."

One breath, and you'll feel like you're in heaven.

Take a couple of breaths, and you won't get any insects or mosquitoes.

Take three breaths, and even the Black and White Impermanence will have to step aside.

Don't believe me? Buy one and try it. It's genuine, no doubt about it.

Those who knew the inside story...

"Hahaha," Bai Jiu couldn't help but laugh.

His family's incense is incredibly potent! Miss is indeed a master, but not a reclusive one!

However, in this apocalyptic world, the Black and White Impermanence are exhausted. It would be good for them to stand aside and rest. Bai Jiu thought to himself.

As the man spoke, many buyers gathered around.

Bai Shuang was speechless. When did she become a hermit master? The moxa sticks produced by the space were very effective, but they weren't a cure-all.

Fortunately, the man only had a few moxa sticks, so let him be.

She only exchanged the moxa sticks with people in her building, and never with anyone else.

There are actually people reselling these items at inflated prices. Some people can't afford them and might get sick, which would affect the entire building's epidemic prevention and control efforts. It seems we need to control the number of people buying them in the future.

I don't want to delve into anything else. They're just trying to make a living, and thankfully they're not associated with the Bai family, so they're not causing any trouble.

Looking further ahead, Bai Shuang spotted Yu Wenwen with her boyfriend standing next to her; they seemed to be setting up a stall as well.

I went over to take a look, and there were several mushroom spawn packets on the stall, with small mushrooms growing on them. If I take these home and cultivate them for a few days, they'll be ready to eat.

Food should sell well, but the fact that Wenwen and her family took out the mushroom bags that were about to mature shows that they were already struggling to make ends meet.

Bai Shuang remembered that she didn't have many mushroom strains in Yanglingtun back then, so she went over to greet her.

Wenwen saw Baishuang and asked, "Shuangshuang, you've come to the trade market too?"

When the boyfriend saw Bai Shuang, he knew she was Wenwen's idol. Last time, he gave Wenwen some compressed biscuits, and they ate them for two days straight.

He hurriedly greeted Bai Shuang.

Bai Shuang nodded. "How do you plan to exchange this?"

"One piece is made from half a catty of grain. If you want one, I'll give you three taels of grain."

Take it home and let it grow for a few days; it can grow to several pounds and even reproduce by producing spores.

Just as Bai Shuang was about to reach for it, a voice came from behind her.

"Bai Shuang, what are you looking at?"

When the white frost turns back, it's a sign of health.

"It's a mushroom! Give me one, we're starving."

Wenwen quickly shielded Weizhen with her body, and her boyfriend also looked at Weizhen warily.

Bai Shuang sighed, "The apocalypse is truly a melting pot. How could the confident and decisive health clinic sister who sold thermostatus clothing have become like this?"

Bai Shuang: "They're so poor they can't even afford to eat, that's why they're selling it. If you want it, you'll have to trade it for grain."

The doctor said, "Lend it to me first, and I'll give you the food next time." He then stretched out his hand.

Wenwen's boyfriend took out a stick and said, "Get away."

Wei Zhen then withdrew his hand, walked away with a sly look on his face, muttering something under his breath.

It wasn't that Bai Shuang didn't want to help her, but that if she helped her, it would encourage her greed and selfishness, turning her into a persistent nuisance. If she didn't help her even once in the future, she would become an enemy.

After the clinic was closed, Bai Shuang replaced all of Wenwen's mushroom bags with water-soaked rice.

Good rice and white frost are certainly available, but you can't give them away. Others are struggling to make ends meet, and you're still feeding and drinking well. What will they think?

When settling the bill, Wenwen deliberately undercharged for the food for one mushroom bag, as a favor to her friend.

You really can't compare people.

However, Bai Shuang still secretly added two extra pounds of grain.

It was already 5 p.m. when I returned from the trade market. I ran into Wang Xiu on the 13th floor.
