Chapter 52 Happy Birthday

On November 12th, after having breakfast, Bai Shuang prepared to take Bai Jiu and the others to try and catch some of the good fortune in the world.

Before the apocalypse, she used money to stock up on her basic necessities of clothing, food, shelter, and transportation. When the apocalypse came, the torrential rain was too strong, giving her only one or two days. She raced against time and managed to collect goods from a few markets before the water flooded her apartment.

Now that the water level has dropped significantly, it presents another rare opportunity to salvage supplies.

Of course, there would be no more food. The areas on the upper floors that weren't flooded had been searched countless times, and one floor had already starved to death. The food that had been flooded had long since spoiled.

Now you can pick up those things that were submerged in water but haven't broken yet.

Bai Shuang picked up the walkie-talkie, only to see the snow leopard rushing towards the door, not barking, but wagging its tail. It must be Bai Jiu and the others. She hadn't expected those two to arrive so early today.

The door opened, and they both said in unison, "Happy birthday!"

Bai Shuang was a little confused, but she quickly realized that it was her birthday today!

So much so that he kept talking about natural disasters that he even forgot his own birthday.

Bai Shuang was born in the early morning, and the ground outside was covered in frost, which is one of the reasons why her maternal grandfather named her "Shuang" (Frost).

The bouquet of flowers Bai Chang was holding was made from old wrapping paper. The colors were well-matched, and the layers were delicate and three-dimensional. Holding it in his hand, it was almost indistinguishable from fresh flowers.

Bai Jiu even carved a childhood version of Bai Shuang from camphor wood.

"Wow, you've got some camphor wood! When did you find it?"

"I encountered it a while ago when I was searching for supplies outside."

That was the summer when Bai Shuang was 5 years old, the first time Bai Jiu and the others saw Bai Shuang.

From then on, they left behind their bitter childhood in the orphanage and began a rich and colorful life.

At that time, Bai Shuang was wearing a sun hat with a pink bow, a white halter princess dress, and holding an eagle kite. Her grandfather called out "Shuang Shuang", and she turned her head to look at him for a moment.

Exquisitely handcrafted and meticulously made, every detail reflects the maker's dedication.

Bai Shuang was so moved that tears welled up in her eyes. "You have such a good memory, remembering it so clearly."

Thank you for giving me such wonderful memories!

Thank you both for such a beautiful birthday gift!

I will cherish it.

Bai Shuang accepted the gift and carefully placed it on the antique shelf in the living room.

Since it's her birthday, she should celebrate properly. She brought out a birthday cake, which Bai Shuang had stockpiled before the natural disaster. She doesn't like sweets, but she stockpiled this cake just to add to the atmosphere of her birthday celebration for herself and those around her.

What are we having for lunch today?

Bai Jiu: "Miss, are there any crayfish left from yesterday?"

"If my Bai Jiu wants to eat it, I'll conjure it up for you even if I don't have it."

Bai Shuang waved her hand, and a large bowl of fresh crayfish appeared in front of her.

They were already used to the young lady's magic. They took out some more vegetables, deciding to cook more and store some, and the three of them began to cook.

Crayfish, cold lotus root slices, stir-fried bok choy, and then take out a serving of Chinese ginseng stewed chicken, steamed shad, and a red wine from the River Valley of N State, USA.

The three people sat down at the table, and the snow leopard took out the food bowl.

But then someone knocked on the door. Bai Jiu wondered, "Who's so annoying?"

"Miss, it's Lieutenant General Lu."

"Open the door." Bai Shuang was a little puzzled. Why was he here?

\"Happy birthday!\"

Lu Yu, accompanied by two bodyguards, along with Liu Qiang and Wang Bin from upstairs, came in and presented the birthday gifts.

Lu Yu gave a jewelry box, while Wang Bin and the other person gave a set of Yixing teapots.

It's perfectly acceptable to give jewelry as a birthday gift to a regular friend, especially since he has bodyguards around, so it wouldn't be appropriate to embarrass him.

Thank you! How did you know my birthday?

Bai Shuang even had a slight suspicion: had he installed surveillance cameras in her house?

"I've heard that before."

Don't be ridiculous. They must have investigated her before, but didn't delve too deeply. Her birthday isn't some kind of secret; if they know, they know.

Lu Yu walked into the living room and immediately noticed the wooden doll Bai Jiu had just given him. He said to Bai Shuang, "Can I have this?"

Before Bai Shuang could speak, Bai Jiu interrupted, "No, this was carved for my young lady; I can't give it to you."

Snow leopard: "Woof!" Don't take our things.

Bai Shuang smiled slightly, "Yes, this was a gift from my husband, Bai Jiu."

Lu Yu thought to himself, "When will I carve one myself? I can't fall behind this kid."

Lu Yu knew Bai Shuang was well-off, but he was still surprised when he walked in and saw the food on the table—it was so lavish!

Bai Shuang made no attempt to hide her extravagance at the dinner table; it was her birthday, so it was normal for her to splurge. Besides, Lu Yu knew that the Bai family, as a thousand-year-old clan, was capable, which was to be expected.

With five more people added at once, Bai Shuang had to take another bowl of crayfish from the kitchen—actually from her spatial storage—and add some more rice.

I added a plate of onions and wood ear mushrooms, and a plate of braised eggplant. There are vegetables growing on the balcony, so it's not surprising that there are plenty of greens, but if they add any more meat, my eyes will pop out.

The two masters sat in the main seats, while Bai Jiu sat in the seat below Bai Shuang.

The snow leopard didn't want to stay in the corner, so Bai Shuang peeled two more crayfish for him before he reluctantly agreed.

Lu Yu saw the birthday candle package on the right, reached out his hand, but Bai Jiu quickly snatched it first.

Lu Yu picked up the left birthday crown with two fingers and, before anyone could react, placed it on Bai Shuang's head.

Then, looking at Ruo Baijiu defiantly, he seemed to think, "You little brat, you think you can fight me? I can manage an army of ten thousand men, how could I not defeat you?"

Bai Jiu glared, thinking, "I'll have to be careful of this guy from now on. Don't even think about coveting my young lady."
