Bai Shuang and Snow Leopard were lazing in bed in their warm home, both sleeping comfortably, when she heard Snow Leopard bark outside, "Woof, woof woof."
Then, a knocking sound was heard. Who would disturb my peaceful sleep on such a cold day?
Bai Shuang got out of bed, put on her military overcoat, hat, mask, and slippers, and went to the door.
Looking through the lintel, they saw people from their building. Opening the door, a blast of cold air hit them. Wearing a mask, they felt a pain in their noses and faintly heard, "Not dead."
Damn it, are you hoping I die so you can divide the spoils?
Bai Jiu and the others heard the noise and opened the door to see what was going on.
Liu Zhongyi: "Excuse me, we're going door-to-door to see if anyone is dead or sick."
So, it really was about checking if someone was dead?
"Do you have it?"
Liu Zhongyi: "Yes, there were some deaths, but our building had the fewest deaths. From bottom to top, only five families were lost. Other families lost two elderly people, but the rest of their families survived."
The other buildings were all more than half damaged.
"So many? Didn't the soldiers warn of a temperature drop in advance?"
Wang Xiu: "Hey, luckily the soldiers notified us, otherwise, how many more people would have died? We might all be dead."
This is the honest truth.
Before the disaster, Tangcheng had a population of about 12 million. During the floods, about half of them perished, leaving about 6 million people. After this sharp drop in temperature, it would be good if 3 million people were left.
The temperature dropped too quickly last night. Even with so much frost prepared, everyone was freezing and had to use the space. Imagine how much more freezing everyone else must have been.
The temperature dropped so quickly that some people who were prepared froze before they could even put on warm clothes, while others stubbornly didn't prepare at all.
They are now knocking on doors from house to house, and if they can't get them to open, they break down the door from the outside, carry the body out, and divide the supplies inside among everyone.
Bai Shuang felt that she could hear excitement in their words about being able to share supplies, but she wasn't sure if it was just her imagination.
"Do it your way, I won't participate."
Their desire to get more supplies and survive is understandable; this is the apocalypse, a brutal struggle for survival.
Bai Shuang closed the door, walked to the window, and measured the temperature again: -33 degrees Celsius. The temperature seemed to have dropped again.
She took the snow leopard into the space for a quick wash, and after they were done, she hurried out. She couldn't waste the time in the space; she had to save it up so she could live there in case of a disaster.
Then I got dressed, put on a mask and hat, and prepared to go downstairs to check the situation outside.
The snow leopard also wanted to go out and wouldn't leave its side, so Bai Shuang had no choice but to take it with her, dress it in thick clothes, and take out a mask that was specially made for it and attached to its hat, and put it on the snow leopard's head.
Upon opening the door, Bai Shuang first covered her nose with both hands. After a while, the snow leopard followed suit and covered its nose with one paw.
A few minutes later, Bai Shuang led the snow leopard downstairs; the first-floor windows were already sealed off by snow.
The man and the dog went to the second-floor window, opened it, and Bai Shuang finally experienced what the biting cold wind was like. She immediately covered her nose and closed her eyes, and Xue Bao did the same.
After getting used to it for a while, Bai Shuang took out her phone and took a picture of the scene of goose feathers flying everywhere. In this situation, if a person went outside, they would turn into a snowman in no time.
Although she lives in the north, Bai Shuang has never seen such heavy snow in her life.
There was no one around at the moment. She took out a thin bamboo pole from her spatial storage and, through her gloves, tried her best to push it down, but she could only push it in half a foot deep before she couldn't push it any further.
There's no problem standing on it; the snow is freezing as it falls.
She jumped out of the window, and sure enough, a person could stand on it. The snow leopard followed her. Looking around, it was incredibly beautiful, but it was too cold. Snowflakes fell on her hands, and even through her gloves, they felt piercingly cold.
She came out to experience the harsh weather outside; since she couldn't change it, she had to adapt.
Bai Shuang spun around twice in place, then tried to turn back, but the snow leopard only ran faster and faster.
That guy leaped several meters at a time, each leap longer than the last, until he disappeared from sight in the blink of an eye. Just as Bai Shuang was getting anxious, he jumped back, then ran off again.
Seeing that it looked like a real snow leopard, Bai Shuang remembered that it was a German Shepherd, which had a high level of physical activity and cold resistance was ingrained in its genes, and could withstand temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius.
Moreover, Bai Shuang has always given it spiritual spring water, making it more tolerant.
Thinking of this, Bai Shuang let it run free; she couldn't let it grow into Donald Duck.
Bai Shuang also tried running two laps.
After the man and dog had their fun, they jumped back out the window. By then, they were sweating, so they quickly went back and planned to come back another time.
After looking out the window for a while, I took the snow leopard upstairs. When we got to the 15th floor, we saw Anming coming out to throw out the trash.
"Miss, would you like to go downstairs? It's snowing heavily outside, please don't go out."
"Just look out the window. Do you still have food and heating supplies?"
Anming: "Yes, as you reminded us before, we prepared a long time ago."
The people in Building C prepared early, and since they had just finished harvesting potatoes, they had no shortage of food or firewood for heating, at least for now.
Bai Shuang thought it best to stay home and roll up her clothes these next few days.
At noon, I called Bai Jiu and Bai Chang over. It was a cold day, so we decided to have hot pot together.
Take out tripe, shrimp paste, lamb slices, fish balls, frozen tofu, spinach, cabbage, chrysanthemum greens, etc., and use a hot pot with two broths, one spicy and the other mild.
Bai Shuang originally wanted to use an induction cooker, but Bai Jiu suggested lighting a coal stove in the living room, which could provide warmth, cook food, and roast sweet potatoes and potatoes.
Snow leopard, woof, I want to eat roasted potatoes.
The three of them ate and cooked at the same time. The snow leopard brought its small bowl, cooked for it, and let it cool down a bit before putting it into its food bowl, worried that it would burn its mouth.
