Chapter 87 Going to the Military Camp

Before six o'clock tomorrow morning, have your guards keep watch and make sure no one gets up. We'll send the supplies over tomorrow morning.

Lu Yu didn't need to ask; what did her bringing things have to do with everyone getting up? If she could say that, there must be something she didn't want anyone to know.

It's already April, and the snow is still falling outside, but it's not as heavy anymore. The wind isn't as strong as it was a while ago, and the outdoor temperature is basically staying at -50 degrees Celsius without dropping any further.

Bai Shuang and the others got up at four o'clock. The three of them and the dog ate breakfast and then collected the stoves, batteries, food, and other things from the two houses.

Because after going to the military camp, during the papermaking period, I might often stay there, and it would be impossible to travel back and forth across dozens of miles of snowy roads.

After saying hello to the guys upstairs, the three of us and the dog went downstairs. It was still dark and quiet outside.

The three of them walked out of the residential area. Bai Shuang used her mental power to sense that no one was around, and then released the snowmobile. This snowmobile had four seats, which was just right for the three of them and the dog, and it was driven by Bai Jiu, the experienced driver.

When the vehicle reached an open area, Bai Shuang stopped the car, got out, and took out a heavy truck that she had bought at the building materials market. She installed snow chains and tried to drive it.

It's alright. The snow is frozen solid, but it's a bit slippery. The speed is too slow compared to the snowmobile. I'll put the frost back in the space and continue driving the snowmobile.

The journey was smooth; those who were collecting tolls didn't bother coming out, fearing they'd freeze to death.

Not far from Lu Yu's camp, a snow leopard barked twice, and the group's hearts skipped a beat. Could someone be blocking their way?

Bai Jiu said angrily, "Damn it, it's so cold, and someone's blocking the way?"

After driving a little further, they saw two people lying on the road, but Bai Shuang could not sense any signs of life in them; they must have frozen to death.

Now that Bai Shuang's mental strength has increased, she can sense other people's aura even from a distance.

"He's already dead, go around him."

Upon arriving at Lu Yu's camp, Bai Shuang checked the time; it was exactly 5:30. With no one around, Bai Shuang put away the snowmobile and released the heavy truck.

Bai Jiu drove his heavy truck back and forth in front of the camp, leaving many tire tracks to conceal his presence, before quickly parking the truck.

First, they released three sets of papermaking tools, grains, dehydrated vegetables, and some boxes of convenience food that they had previously collected from the wholesale market. They didn't need these themselves, so they gave them to the children to eat.

Moreover, since the items are in boxes, they don't know what's inside, which can be used to deceive others. It wouldn't be surprising if they took something out later.

They took out the coal stove, the bags of coal, and all the mulberry bark accumulated over the past year and from the Bai family's former medicinal herb warehouse.

There are also auxiliary materials used in making mulberry bark paper, such as starfruit blossoms, peony bark, paulownia flowers, and lime.

There's also a bunch of traditional Chinese medicines that we processed for Lu Yu and his team, which we'll release along with them.

There are three sets of papermaking tools. One set was found by Lu Yu, another by Huang Niu, and the third was found by Bai Shuang among the pharmaceutical tools she had previously acquired from the Bai family.

As for food and coal, the soldiers' wages were offset by the wages for Bai Shuang's medicine making and the medical expenses for the researchers, but Bai Shuang had to provide them with food and heating.

We can't let them go hungry while dealing with icy snowmelt. Besides, the military camp is large but supplies are scarce, so this will also help alleviate their shortage of food and fuel.

After checking and finding nothing wrong, Bai Shuang took out her walkie-talkie and called Lu Yu.

As Lu Yu looked at the mountain of supplies piled up at the door, the thought popped into his head: "I've met a rich woman."

He's always so concerned about her lacking this or that.

She said she was making mulberry bark paper. Lu Yu originally thought she had at most a few dozen bundles, but who knew that her mulberry bark was piled up like a mountain!

I wonder how they managed to get all that stuff here? I saw truck tracks in the snow, but with so much stuff, loading and unloading must have been incredibly difficult.

Since they don't want others to know, you shouldn't ask.

It was almost 6 o'clock by then, and the guards rushed to wake everyone up so they could move things.

Everyone knew why Bai Shuang had come; Lu Yu had already given prior notice.

Upon seeing these familiar soldiers, the snow leopard kept jumping around, wagging its tail, playing here and there, then pouncing on one of them.

When Doctor Ma saw Bai Shuang arrive, he was overjoyed. "Dr. Bai, you've finally come! I feel much more at ease now."

The soldiers carrying things nearby turned their heads and chuckled.

Bai Shuang felt that his way of addressing her was like talking to her maternal grandfather.

"Just call me Dr. Bai. If you call me anything else, I'll ignore you."

Doctor Ma quickly covered his mouth. When he saw the traditional Chinese medicine that Bai Shuang had prepared for them, his eyes widened. He refused to let anyone else do it and slowly moved it himself with several medical staff.

Those sniffing brats, they'll ruin the medicine.

The goofy soldier, upon seeing Bai Shuang and the others, seemed to have inexhaustible strength, even for carrying things. "Fairy Sister, I've missed you so much! It's been so long since I've seen you."

Soldier: "Dr. Bai, why didn't you wake us up to help unload all this stuff?"

Bai Shuang smiled and said, "Everyone was resting just now, so I was sorry to disturb them. Luckily, we hired a car and several people to help, and they've already driven the truck back."

"There's nothing wrong with bothering us. You saved our lives the other day."

When Lu Yu saw his personal guards, seeing Bai Shuang and the others, all of them were beaming with joy, he felt a pang of jealousy. "These heartless bastards! I worry about them every day, and I've never seen them so happy when they see me."

However, he was happy that they could get along well with Bai Shuang.

"You didn't want to be a soldier, but look how happy they are when you arrived. Are you just naturally drawn to soldiers?"
