Chapter 10 Entering the Mansion

It is common knowledge that King Cheng is physically disabled.

Therefore, Prince Cheng was not present in the wedding procession, and the people did not raise any objections.

Unlike the laughter and chatter along the street, the noise gradually subsided as they approached the Prince Cheng's mansion, thanks to the original owner's memory of the terrain.

This is just like the nature of the wedding itself; the excitement is all for outsiders.

The procession stopped at the entrance of the Prince's Mansion, and a high-pitched but joyful voice roused the procession to order.

"Your Highness, welcome back to the residence!"

It sounded like the voice of an elderly man.

Ning Xi'er nodded slightly and was led into the house by the old women.

Upon entering the Prince's residence, Ning Xi'er inexplicably felt a sense of desolation, even though today was her wedding day.

The old women quickly escorted her to the bridal chamber and then left. Ning Xi'er's four maids who had accompanied her as part of her dowry were then allowed to enter in turn.

Hearing the door close, Ning Xi'er ripped off her veil.

"I was so suffocated!"

Ning Xi'er smiled, her eyes meeting those of the four maids unintentionally.

They were all bright red, like rabbits.

Ning Xi'er reached out her hand, beckoning them over.

"What's the matter?"

Ning Xi'er said gently, "These maids are, after all, considerate of her."

The crabapple tree lowered its head, silently shedding tears, and remained silent.

Ao Xue also looked away.

Angelica dahurica and licorice are skilled in martial arts and possess a resolute character.

Although her eyes reddened, it was only for a moment, and no further noticeable signs were visible.

She had already clearly sensed the true colors of the Marquis's family before she even got into the sedan chair...

This maid must have felt sorry for her.

"I'm so hungry! Did any of you bring any food?"

Ning Xi'er deliberately changed the subject.

The officers who are raiding my house are arriving soon; barring any unforeseen circumstances, I'll be spending the night in jail...

I haven't had breakfast yet, I'll be hungry all day!

Haitang immediately looked up, wiped away her tears, and took out two crispy pastries from her sleeve. These were the young lady's favorite treats!

Ning Xi'er was overjoyed and immediately took it, devouring it without a care for her image.

After dealing with one of them, he looked up and asked the four maids if they had eaten.

The four maids looked at each other, but remained silent.

Thinking of the First Madam, thinking of the two young masters far away on the frontier, thinking of the young lady's marriage, she didn't even have a single close relative by her side...

What's more, the Marquis is marrying his young lady off to such a man...

Even if they didn't understand things outside the Marquis's residence, they still knew that Prince Cheng was disabled, not to mention that the servants in the Marquis's residence had been gossiping about it lately.

Although most of them followed their masters' lead, they mocked and ridiculed their mistress, waiting to see her make a fool of herself.

How could they possibly eat under such circumstances...?

Seeing this, Ning Xi'er immediately ordered Bai Zhi and Gan Cao to hurry to the kitchen of the Prince's mansion, ask for some food, and bring more bowls and chopsticks. She told them to be quick and bring them over as soon as possible.

If these words were given to Haitang and Aoxue, they would certainly dissuade Ning Xi'er to avoid displeasing Prince Cheng, etc.

But Bai Zhi and Gan Cao were people trained by the general, so they didn't care about such things and just followed Ning Xi'er's orders, regardless of whether they were right or wrong.

Before long, Bai Zhi and Gan Cao each brought over two trays, filled with plenty of delicious dishes.

These were originally prepared for a banquet...

Even without mentioning Angelica dahurica and licorice, Ning Xi'er could roughly guess what was going on outside.

Given Prince Cheng's delicate status, even if it were a marriage bestowed by the emperor, the number of court officials who could actually attend the banquet, even if they dared to send gifts through their servants, would likely be extremely small.

Moreover, Prince Cheng entered the palace yesterday and has not returned since; the well-informed court officials must know what happened in the palace...

At this point, who would dare to defy public opinion and attend a banquet at Prince Cheng's residence?

The fact that the mansion was deserted upon entry and quiet inside said it all.

The food had already been served, and Haitang and Aoxue stopped trying to persuade them. At Ning Xier's invitation, the four maids sat down at a table.

Bai Zhi was handed over by Ning Xi'er. After giving a few instructions to the steward of the manor, she immediately rushed back.

The four maids didn't really have much of an appetite, but Ning Xi'er urged them on, and spoke very quickly, so they had no choice but to eat some with her.

Ning Xi'er was the first to put down her chopsticks, scanned the room, and laid out peanuts, melon seeds, longans, and other snacks on the bed. She then rolled up the quilt and wrapped them all up.

Haitang and Aoxue originally wanted to get up to help, but Ning Xier stopped them by raising her hand and told them to hurry up and eat.

The maids were worried that Prince Cheng would return and see the mess on the table, so they quickly swept up all the food and grass on the table.

After getting into the bridal sedan chair, Ning Xi'er took out an item of equal weight to herself from her spatial storage, placed it inside the sedan chair, and then disappeared back to the Marquis's residence to collect all the betrothal gifts from the Prince Cheng's residence!

As for the servants carrying the dowry in the wedding procession, they didn't notice anything unusual about the dowry...

It was because Ning Xi'er had filled the chest with stones.

After receiving the betrothal gifts, Ning Xi'er stealthily caught up with the wedding procession, stored the supplies from the sedan chair into her spatial storage, and then got in herself...

Because the actions were switched seamlessly, the servants did not sense anything unusual.

"Miss......"

Haitang was very worried that Ning Xier had made such a mess of the wedding bed, fearing that it would displease Prince Cheng.

Ning Xi'er glanced at it and casually said, "Don't worry, we won't need it..."
