Chapter 58 Landslide

It was a package of arrows!

Once the bamboo pole is properly whittled, an arrowhead can be attached and it can be used as an arrow.

But the joy lasted only a few seconds; once they realized there were only a few dozen arrows, the happiness vanished instantly...

It felt like Ning Xi'er was subtly...

Did you offer some words of comfort?

Ning Xi'er comforted her, "Although it's not much, at least it'll be useful in a pinch. Since it's difficult to buy them, let's just wait for them to send the weapons over..."

I spent some time buying weapons, and then some time persuading the shopkeeper to sell me the jade burial suit. There's only enough time left before the agreed-upon time to go to the nearest blacksmith shop...

Zheng Ye would naturally return empty-handed. Without the government's permission, who would dare sell him arrowheads and arrow tips?

Even after using a sleeping potion, he still couldn't find where the blacksmith kept the arrows.

Ning Xi'er, having recently become quite experienced at emptying supplies, could directly use stealth to search warehouses or secret rooms, but unfortunately, there was only one pack of forged arrows...

"They delivered it?"

As Zheng Ye spurred his horse forward, he looked at Ning Xi'er on Bai Zhi's horse with a puzzled expression.

Suddenly, everything became clear.

He glanced back at the carriage, which was being hurried by the guards. They were worried that something might have happened to the main force, so they were being called back. When they met up, Zheng Ye didn't ask what was inside.

They simply assumed that Ning Xi'er had purchased the supplies herself.

When the dozen or so people returned to their original camp location, they suddenly heard a loud rumbling sound in the distance.

The location of the loud noise was unclear, but based on the location, it was vaguely recognizable as the direction that Zheng Chengguang and I had discussed before setting off, which was to go around Anping.

Zheng Ye's expression immediately changed, and he whipped his horse to gallop away.

Bai Zhi, an excellent equestrian, followed closely behind.

The guards followed closely behind, kicking up thick dust.

After traveling at a brisk pace for about an hour, the horses were exhausted and Zheng Ye and his party saw some pedestrians on the desolate mountain path.

But the more I looked, the more horrified I became...

Loud noises could be heard continuously as we rode at full speed.

The longer the duration, the clearer the sound feels.

The hearts of Zheng Ye, Ning Xier, and the others sank even further.

Zheng Ye dismounted, led the horse to rest, and then asked the pedestrians on the roadside for directions.

These pedestrians, in twos and threes, all fled from opposite directions.

Their faces were all somewhat pale, and some of them had difficulty walking.

In twos and threes, supporting each other, they walked slowly in opposite directions.

"Sir, did you hear a loud bang? Listen, there's still some sound..."

"Do you know where this happened?"

The old man seemed to be in pain. Seeing Zheng Ye and the others preparing to head in the direction they had left, he chuckled lightly...

Zheng Ye took out a string of coins from his sleeve, handed it to the old man, and asked again.

The old man weighed the copper coin in his hand, and his expression softened a bit.

"It's right there..."

The old man pointed in a direction, "That's the only way we can go down the mountain; many people pass by..."

"That mountain used to be perfectly fine; I'd never heard of any landslides or sinkholes..."

"Of all days! My wife and I were just passing by, visiting relatives in the next village, when we heard a muffled thud overhead..."

"Then came several muffled thuds, which grew louder and louder. My hearing isn't very good, so I thought it was thunder..."

"We stopped to ask the old woman, as we were preparing to find a place where it would rain more. The old woman said she had heard it too, but it didn't sound like thunder..."

"In the short time it took to stop, stones of all sizes started rolling down from above..."

"Luckily, my wife and I ran fast, or we would have been crushed to death!"

Zheng Ye quickly asked, "Excuse me, sir, how many people have been hit by stones on the road? Have you seen a group of people in carriages and on horseback who were hit by stones?"

The old man recalled for a moment, and his wife, who was supporting him, chimed in:

"We were already at the foot of the mountain, almost out, so we ran a few steps and escaped..."

"I glanced back a few times and noticed that many of my neighbors had suffered similar scrapes or minor injuries..."

"Just like you said, a large number of carriages and horse caravans were smashed. We didn't see it at the time, otherwise the horses would be so fast-moving that there would definitely be a lot of screams on the scene!"

"But at the scene, besides the sound of stones falling and people fighting, we didn't hear any horses running rampant..."

Ning Xi'er saw the old woman's eyes gleaming, clearly indicating that if a horse were to be crushed to death, they would stay at the scene to salvage what they could.

"A bloodbath?!"

Clearly, Zheng Ye grasped the key information immediately.

"What kind of fighting?"

The old woman hesitated, then subconsciously rubbed her hands together.
