Longing for You (Part 4)
“You finally realized it,” President Huai’s eyes lit up, and his voice unconsciously rose. “I thought you wouldn’t ask me for another two weeks!”
“I think you should know, Mr. Huai, that I have a boyfriend,” An paused, then brought up Ji Qingzhou, “You’ve met him.”
Huai Chuan shrugged indifferently. "So what?"
"Knock knock..." Just then, Cod knocked on the door and came in: "President Huai, this is the report you requested."
Huai Chuan waved his hand, signaling the cod to hurry up and go down.
In that short time, An had already made up her mind.
"Mr. Huai, you said before that you've never met a girl like me since graduation, right?"
Huai Chuan was at ease and very satisfied that An had remembered what he said.
"But as far as I know, you had six girlfriends in college, and the last one caused a huge scene because you cheated on her with two women."
Huai Chuan's heart sank, and he argued, "That's all in the past. I was ignorant back then..." He didn't expect An Yi to have bothered to find out about his past.
An didn't specifically seek out this information; he came prepared.
Recently, some things suddenly happened in the quiet classmate group, with each message more explosive than the last, and they even insisted on tagging her to discuss them.
The topic of Huaichuan was discussed the most. She even asked if he was afraid he would see these things since they were classmates. Later, she found out that Huaichuan was not in that group.
An said softly, "You don't need to pursue me now to change the impression you make on others and on yourself, in order to gain a reputation for being a loyal lover."
These incisive words, like sharp silver needles, pierced Huai Chuan's vitals.
He did indeed have six girlfriends. Some were women he thought were beautiful and he won them over after pursuing them, while others pursued him and he accepted their advances immediately.
Actually, An was wrong. Some girls were together for less than a week.
However, those were just absurd things he did when he was young and ignorant.
He must have always been thinking about An Yi, about the unrequited love he had in his youth.
The girl who brought him joy during his senior year of high school.
Although his college roommates jokingly called him a playboy, he felt that he saw the same person through them.
That's why he approached Kong Yue to recommend himself when he learned that Kong Yue was looking for a blind date for An Yi.
He would be very proactive. He didn't care that she had a boyfriend, and he would even be willing to be the other woman to steal her away.
As long as he finally gets her, as long as his years of longing are finally proven.
Now that person is standing right in front of him, mercilessly exposing his facade of deep affection.
A thought suddenly flashed through my mind: there was no such thing as being ruthless; there was no affection between them at all.
Especially for someone as cold-hearted as An Yi.
Huai Chuan remained silent for a long time.
An blinked, abandoning her aggressive tone: "Furthermore, using one's position for personal gain is not something Mei Kai advocates."
Huai Chuan nodded. In fact, he was no longer listening to anything anyone was saying.
An said, "If there's nothing else, I'll go to work now."
An turned and walked out of the office, secretly relieved.
She pushed open the door and saw the cod stuck to it. She hurriedly turned around and went back to her workstation, her back view showing a slightly flustered look.
Wasn't she going to find Huai Chuan?
As An passed by the cod's workstation, she caught a glimpse of a very familiar avatar out of the corner of her eye, which she quickly shrunk and hid in the chat box.
She paused in her steps.
She had seen that portrait countless times: a simple, plain white oil-paper umbrella, definitely not a qualified product that could be sold on the market.
She had been using the same profile picture since she met Ji Qingzhou.
Before she knew Ji Qingzhou could make oil-paper umbrellas, she thought it was a picture from the internet. But later, she realized it looked like a child's innocent masterpiece.
Ji Qingzhou had told her that it was the first oiled paper umbrella he made when he was a child.
Two broken threads in my mind suddenly came together.
Why does Xueyu always appear when she's alone with Huaiyu? Why does she always feel like there's a pair of eyes watching her? Why has Xueyu been so clingy to her lately?
Ann had come up behind the cod: "What did he promise to give you?"
She was caught off guard and went to verify the correctness of her idea.
Codfish doesn't easily do things for others. She's not familiar with Ji Qingzhou, so she'll definitely ask for something in return if she helps him.
The cod tensed up, its eyes darting around: "Huh? What?"
This is a classic reaction from a cod when it doesn't have time to lie.
An was even more convinced of her suspicions.
Cod cannot be bribed with ordinary things.
"He promised to give you a Tibetan Mastiff?"
Cod vehemently denied it, saying, "How could that be? Those things are so difficult to raise!"
An narrowed her eyes.
The cod realized it had spoken out of turn and closed its eyes in regret.
Ah! An actually used her favorite dog in the second round!
Finally, under An Yi's sharp gaze, Cod confessed everything: "Your boyfriend told me to keep an eye on you and to tell him any movements immediately. He discovered that Huai Chuan has arrived and his new task is to prevent you two from being alone in the same room. He promised to give me a year's worth of dog food."
Fearing that An Yi was angry, Cod snuggled up to An Yi's arm and said coquettishly, "This is my baby's favorite food, and I was really spitting out the money to buy it, so it was really hard to refuse! Your boyfriend is really good at finding the right solution when asking for favors!"
Codfish opened her chat window with Ji Qingzhou, where she was reporting what had just happened.
An stared at Ji Qingzhou's profile picture in silence for a while, then sighed and said, "Thank you anyway."
She also didn't like being with Huai Chuan.
Seeing that An no longer blamed her, Codfish steered the conversation toward the sugar daddy, "But to be fair, Ji Qingzhou really does like you."
An has returned to her workstation.
The computer screen was still lit, but she couldn't concentrate on reading a single word.
I tried two or three times but still couldn't get into the work.
She opened her chat window with Ji Qingzhou.
She had originally planned for them to come back and have a proper talk.
She wasn't entirely sure what the outcome of their formal conversation would be.
She imagined herself and Ji Qingzhou sitting together, facing each other.
What can I say?
I can't seem to imagine it.
She just felt they should talk.
She glanced in the direction of the cod, who was also looking at her. Noticing her gaze, the cod quickly looked away guiltily.
An had already looked around the office; in the familiar furnishings, everyone was engrossed in their work.
She took a deep breath, sank into her chair, stared at the screen, and typed the word "break up".
She suddenly felt very tired.
Sometimes what breaks that string isn't a loud argument or the decay of time, but an unexpected moment foreshadowed long ago.
An has switched pages, opened the document, and typed the words "resignation report".
She came to Meikai after graduating, and a year has already passed.
With swift fingers, a few words encapsulated the passage of a year.
We just came out, and now we're back in so quickly.
When she came out, she was worried that Huai Chuan would make things difficult for her.
In retrospect, it was completely unnecessary.
When Huai Chuan saw those words, he was completely stunned.
He looked at those words several times before saying, "If it's my fault, you don't need to worry..."
An Yizhi said directly, "It's not because of you, it's just for my own career planning."
Seeing An Yi's serious and resolute attitude, Huai Chuan finally put a complete end to her youth.
"Shall we leave now?"
Meikai has a philosophy regarding personnel: we don't miss out on anyone with a dream, nor do we try to retain anyone who is pursuing their dream. Therefore, once the work handover is complete, we don't try to keep anyone.
So when cod mentions that they are cattle or horses, they will say that at least they live in a better shed.
An nodded solemnly.
After leaving the office, An began packing her things.
The cod had been watching An's every move closely.
Seeing An pack her things, she was so shocked that she immediately slid over to An's side.
She was so shocked that she couldn't speak.
She hasn't said anything yet.
An laughed and said, "You can tell him now that I've resigned."
After the initial shock, the cod resembled a child who had done something wrong.
"You didn't resign because of me, did you? I'm sorry, I was wrong. I shouldn't have let dog food blind me."
An still smiled faintly: "Of course not."
"Could it be because of Huai Chuan? Don't quit, I'll go and deal with him for you!" Codfish immediately made a move to rush to the office.
An had already pulled her back and shook her head.
"Of course it's not because of him... nor because of Ji Qingzhou."
How could she give up her own things because of someone else's mistake?
However, she admitted that she felt a sense of relief when she resigned. One second she was being enslaved and harassed by her boss, and the next second she resigned.
"As you know, I came here after graduation, and I haven't had a proper rest since I started studying and working. Maybe I'll come back once I've had a good rest."
More importantly, she needed a pause in her life.
Cod still felt it was too sudden. He was even thinking of hiring two big men to go into a dark alley and beat him up.
Seeing that she couldn't persuade An Yi, she had no choice but to help her pack her things.
"Can I still keep my dog food?" Cod asked cautiously.
Those lazy, good-for-nothing dogs at home, do you even know how much your mother has sacrificed for you?
An Yi said, "Yes, of course I want it. You should ask for more and make the task sound more difficult."
Cod quickly hugged An and kissed her: "You are so beautiful inside and out. I thank you on behalf of your godsons!"
An's belongings were simple, and she packed them up in no time.
People come and go in the company; everyone's used to it. After saying goodbye to An, her colleagues in the office went back to work.
There was a window open outside the toilet, and Ji Qingzhou leaned against the windowsill to enjoy the breeze.
The boss, who had just finished the dinner, came out of the restroom and saw Ji Qingzhou with one hand in his pocket and the other holding his phone, looking distracted. He glanced at the phone and joked, "Did you have a fight with your girlfriend?"
The boss had been traveling with Ji Qingzhou for several days. Ji Qingzhou only showed a slight smile at the dinner table; the rest of the time, his expression could be described as gloomy.
The boss is an experienced person; he can tell at a glance that young people have romantic feelings and love affairs.
He didn't need to do these things himself.
The boss doesn't need it, but the woman in his family is going through menopause, and he's terrified of her, so he avoids her whenever he gets the chance.
They are both hiding, but the reasons for hiding are different.
Ji Qingzhou put away her phone, looked up at the person who had come in, shook her head, and returned to the private room with that person.
He does want to argue, if arguing can solve things.
However, An no longer argues with him.
He didn't dare to argue with An.
He didn't want to either.
