Chapter 34 Sisters: "There was nothing they were forced to do."

The drunkard was stunned by the scolding. He turned his head and was about to retaliate when he saw Lin Yue and froze.

Today she wore a mature black deep-V long dress, with exquisite makeup, striking red lips, and a cold and aloof gaze that seemed to be coated with poison.

The man's face flushed red and then pale, his eyes gradually clearing as if he'd been doused with water. He clearly recognized the notoriously spoiled young lady of the Lin family. He instinctively released Meng Yao's hand, his steps unsteady as he tried to escape: "Misunderstanding, misunderstanding... I just drank too much..."

Did I let you leave?

Lin Yue's icy voice jolted the man's taut nerves, and he stood frozen in place, watching Lin Yue approach step by step.

She didn't speak, but chuckled and reached out to straighten the other person's wrinkled blue suit collar: "Just now in the banquet hall, weren't you like a dog smelling meat, coming over like that, saying I was the most dazzling person in the room, and shamelessly trying to buy me a drink?"

Her smile faded as she spoke slowly, her hand suddenly tightening, finally gripping the man's collar tightly: "What? In the blink of an eye, you've gone blind and run off to find a fake?"

The man trembled with fear, his face turning deathly pale. He begged for mercy repeatedly, "Miss Lin, spare me! I'll never do it again! Please forgive my rudeness, I'll leave right now! I'll leave right now!"

He was incoherent, and as Lin Yue's grip loosened, he quickly fled like a stray dog.

Meng Yao clenched her fists. Lin Yue was as erratic and domineering as ever, as if the whole world should revolve around her moods. Although Lin Yue had come to her rescue this time, the things she said were always so unpleasant to hear.

Now that the trouble was gone, she didn't want to stay another second and turned to leave.

"stop."

Lin Yue's voice, unsurprisingly, came from behind, carrying an unquestionable commanding tone: "I did help you, after all. Where's the thanks?"

Meng Yao paused, stopping abruptly in place: "I didn't ask you to help me."

Lin Yue crossed her arms and walked around to face her, leisurely examining her slightly pale face. As if she hadn't heard her words, her eyes were full of condescending mockery: "Can't you even speak a human language? Do I need to teach you how to say thank you? Or is it that after all the effort our family went to send you to Fang Huaixu's side, you didn't learn basic manners, but only how to please men in bed?"

Meng Yao suddenly raised her eyes, her gaze coldly fixed on Lin Yue. She already disliked Lin Yue, and now that Fang Huaixu was mentioned, her chest felt a sharp pain again because of what had just happened in the lounge, almost breaking through her reason.

But she managed to calm herself down at the last second. There was no need to continue arguing with Lin Yue, so she forced out two harsh words through gritted teeth: "Thank you."

After saying that, she took another step to leave, trying to force her way through Lin Yue.

"Wait," Lin Yue once again deftly blocked her path, slightly raising her chin, her neck graceful, her posture arrogant: "A verbal thank you is enough? Who do you think you are? What's the value of two empty words? No real gift in return?"

Meng Yao, unable to contain her anger any longer, suppressed the rage that was about to erupt: "Lin Yue, what exactly do you want? Spit it out!"

Lin Yue seemed to have been waiting for this outburst of questioning from her, a triumphant smile curving her red lips: "It's nothing serious, Dad just wants you to come home for a casual dinner tonight."

"I'm not going."

Without a second thought, Meng Yao refused decisively and tried to bypass her again.

"Meng Yao!" Lin Yue grabbed her upper arm, completely enraged by her utterly disrespectful attitude: "Don't push your luck! What kind of high and mighty attitude are you putting on? Do you really think you've climbed up a high branch and become a phoenix? You're just an ungrateful wretch!"

The stinging pain in her arm and the harsh words were like the last spark, completely igniting Meng Yao's long-suppressed anger.

All her negative emotions seemed to find a reasonable outlet at this moment. She flung Lin Yue's hand away and pushed her against the wall with no restraint.

Lin Yue, wearing high heels, nearly tripped and fell. She hurriedly grabbed the handrail to steady herself, and when she looked up again, her face was filled with rage: "How dare you push me?"

"I pushed you, so what?"

Meng Yao turned around and met Lin Yue's almost murderous gaze head-on: "Lin Yue, you should know better than anyone else in the world how much I despise your Lin family and how disgusting I am to you!"

Lin Yue's pupils contracted as she was stung by her words and gaze. Instantly, like a firecracker being lit, her voice rose sharply: "What a joke! Do you think I like you that much? I hate you a thousand times, ten thousand times more! I wish you and that old bastard of yours would die right now!"

Mentioning her grandmother, Meng Yao immediately lunged forward, nearly getting into a fight. Lin Yue grabbed her fist, almost pressing it against Meng Yao's face, her beautiful eyes swirling with terrifying malice. She practically spat out each word: "Do you know what kind of life I've lived since I was a child? Because of you and that persistent old lunatic in your family, even going to school like a normal person has become a luxury! Wherever I go to school, that old hag in your family causes a scene, wanting to tell the whole world that I'm a bastard born from a mistress!"

Her voice trembled with agitation, filled with ruthlessness: "I dropped out of high school before finishing. My classmates called me the daughter of a prostitute, my teachers led the way in isolating me, I was locked in the toilet, pushed into a trash can, and beaten in an alley. I was so scared that I didn't dare close my eyes at night... All of this is thanks to you! I swore since I was a child that as long as I live, I will wipe out your entire family! I'll let you taste what I've made of you!"

Meng Yao shoved her away forcefully, her face showing no emotion, but instead a cold and cruel smile: "You deserve it."

These three words were spoken lightly, yet they seemed to carry immense force, crashing heavily down on Lin Yue.

But she didn't stop; instead, she took a step forward: "Isn't it right? Your father, Lin Tianhai, and your mother, Chen Xiang, are a pair of despicable people made in heaven. Their sins should fall on the children they gave birth to. What's wrong with that? Why don't you blame them, but blame us who are fighting for our rights? I should have had a happy and fulfilling family too. Don't I deserve a normal life? Where do you get the nerve to talk to me about hatred and grievances?"

“Go ask your mother, Meng Du,” Lin Yue scoffed. “Oh, right, how could someone surnamed Meng tell you all this? You don’t know, do you? My dad was a good student at first, but your mother used her family background to threaten and humiliate him in every way, forcing him to agree to her demands. She said I deserved it. Well, you’ve ended up like this thanks to your mother who died young!”

"You keep saying you were forced into this, fine, then let me ask you, when he was making a fortune off our family's bloodline, why didn't he say he felt wronged?"

She didn't give Lin Yue a chance to refute, her speech quickening and her logic becoming frighteningly clear: "From his advanced studies to his job, he used all the resources and connections my mother brought him. When he was thriving in the business world, why didn't he say he was forced into it? When he knelt on the ground begging my mother to marry him, why didn't he say he was forced to act at someone's neck? When he started his company, made plans, and shamelessly begged my mother to help him make connections at crucial moments, were those all great sacrifices he had to make out of necessity?"

She finished speaking in one breath, her gaze sharp and fixed on Lin Yue's pale face, delivering the final, fatal blow: "Compared to him, when he cheated on my mother with Chen Xiang, it seemed more like he was forced, right? He closed his eyes, got aroused, and forced my dear sister to have sex, wasn't that right?"

"Shut up!"

Lin Yue grabbed her mouth and pressed her against the wall, trembling with rage like a cat with its fur standing on end. Her voice was sharp and piercing: "Nonsense! Every word you say is bullshit, I won't believe a single one of it! I will make you pay for all the humiliation I've suffered since I was a child!"

Seeing that she was completely immersed in her own narrative, Meng Yao felt a deep-seated weariness. Arguing about right and wrong with someone who refuses to be clear-headed is like talking to a brick wall, a pure waste of life and breath.

So she mustered all her strength, reached out and grabbed her arm, twisting it, and easily escaped her restraints.

Lin Yue did not resist, nor did she intend to continue the argument. She stood there blankly, panting, seemingly deep in thought.

"You're so great, you're so wronged, the whole world owes you something," Meng Yao sighed deeply, her tone returning to its usual indifference, carrying a sense of utter detachment and weariness: "If you haven't had enough of arguing, go ahead and yell at the air again. I'm exhausted, I'm not playing along."

She seemed to realize something and gave a mocking smile: "Your dad's task for you today is definitely to take me back, right? Well, Miss Lin, you'll have to figure out how to do that yourself. I'm definitely not going back for dinner."

After saying that, she turned around resolutely again, this time without the slightest hesitation.

However, just as he stepped out the door, Lin Yue let out a chilling laugh from behind: "Fine, I'm not here to force you to go. You don't have to go."

Meng Yao's heart tightened for no apparent reason.

Lin Yue gave a slow, cold snort, each word clear and distinct: "Professor Anderson doesn't have much free time. It's a pity. I heard you've been looking for him everywhere."

Meng Yao's eyes froze, and all the blood in her body seemed to rush to her brain at that moment.

What did she just say?

...Professor Anderson?

She turned around stiffly. In the dim light, Lin Yue held her phone as if browsing something, then revealed the chat interface, her victorious smile undisguised: "His daughter is a fan of mine for seven years. When she heard we were looking for them, she specially came back to China to invite me to dinner... Now it seems that you didn't need his help a long time ago."
