Xiao Qi looked back at Baili Wanwan with a doting expression, letting her tug at his clothes and stumble forward.
"Wanwan, walk slowly, don't fall."
“My brother is here, so I’m not afraid of falling. He can carry me home anyway.”
"Then you still have to be careful," he said, raising his hand to land on Baili Wanwan's head. But then he noticed someone looking at him from the side and quickly withdrew his hand, his eyes sharpening.
The two Wan brothers in front also stopped, their eyes filled with vigilance, their fists clenched tightly. If their father hadn't taught them that hitting people was wrong, they would have rushed forward.
Wan Qiufeng walked over to the group with an arrogant air, sizing up Xiao Qi with greed in his eyes.
"Wanwan, what kind of behavior is it for a girl like you to be all lovey-dovey with boys outside? If word gets out, won't our Wan family be laughed at?"
Wan Qiufeng was clearly a child whose teeth hadn't even fully grown in yet, but he spoke such words as if he were an old man. Needless to say, it must have been taught to him by his mother.
Baili Wanwan clutched Xiao Qi's sleeve and strode past him, seemingly oblivious to what he had heard.
Xiao Qi stood there, refusing to leave, his face darkening. "He said that about you."
"It's alright, little brother, Wanwan won't bother with someone like that," Baili Wanwan smiled slightly, and pulled Xiao Qi to leave. "Little brother, our family will be worried about us, let's hurry back."
"No, he can't insult you!"
Xiao Qi looked stubborn, his eyes fixed on Wan Qiufeng, who was about the same height as him but twice as fat.
Wan Qiufeng, a triumphant smile in his eyes, continued shouting, "I told you so, so what!"
"That brat Baili Wanwan, she lives in other people's houses all day, eating and using other people's things. She's a treacherous, ungrateful little ingrate who always turns her back on her own. She's already hooked up with a man so quickly. Looking at you, I can imagine what your mother is like. You must have learned all your seduction skills from your mother, right?"
She tolerated being called an ingrate.
She's accused of seducing men, but she's reluctantly refraining from taking any action for the time being.
But how dare he speak ill of his own mother!
This is intolerable!
Seeing her biting her lower lip tightly, looking aggrieved, Xiao Qi waved to the two guards beside him.
The two guards understood, stretched their arms, and strode towards Wanqiu Peak.
"Do you intend to assault someone in public?"
Seeing that things were not going well, Wan Qiufeng lost his previous arrogance and turned to run away.
"Young master, why are you running?"
The two guards grabbed the man from the left and right, and with a forceful pull, they lifted Wan Qiufeng up, leaving his short legs flailing in the air.
"What are you doing? Let me go right now!" Wan Qiufeng said defiantly, though he was scared. "This is the street, are you trying to hit me?"
No matter what he said, the guards ignored him and just kept walking into the alley.
"Help! Murder! Assault! In broad daylight, is there no law?"
Baili Wanwan frowned, tugged at Xiao Qi's sleeve with a worried look, and pouted, "Big brother, are they really going to hit someone?"
"No, Wanwan, don't be afraid. They're not hitting anyone. They're just teaching him a lesson, instructing him on how to be a good person. It's like a teacher giving a student a couple of slaps on the hand. Can you really call that hitting someone?"
Baili Wanwan thought about it seriously for a moment, then smiled broadly, "No, what you said is right, we really should educate them properly."
As soon as he finished speaking, the two guards returned.
"Young master, that chubby boy has already run away."
“Okay,” Xiao Qi nodded.
The two Wan brothers exchanged a glance and began to re-evaluate Xiao Qi.
"I didn't expect you to be of some use, at least you can protect your sister."
"Although you are indeed rather unpleasant to look at, we can still barely get along under the same roof because you protect Wanwan."
That sounded somewhat forced.
"Thank you both, brothers," Xiao Qi said with a smile, bowing respectfully instead of being angry.
"Brother, you guys are so mean to little brother! If you dare to bully little brother, I'm going to tell the teacher about you!" Baili Wanwan tilted her head and thought for a moment. "No, I'm going to tell Grandpa that you bullied me. I'm going to cry in front of Grandpa!"
The Wan brothers were both amused and exasperated, looking at Baili Wanwan, "So you've been won over like this?"
"Brothers, you are all good brothers to Wanwan. With you here, no one will dare to bully me, so Wanwan doesn't want to see you all suffer," Wanwan said, looking down with a pitiful expression.
The two Wan brothers immediately surrendered, "Okay, okay, we'll do as you say, alright?"
Upon entering the Wan residence, the group first went to the main hall to pay their respects to Wan Suizhou.
After explaining his purpose, Xiao Qi bowed respectfully. "Mr. Suizhou, please accept Qi'er as your student and let him study under you." As he spoke, he turned to look at the guards beside him.
The guards quickly took out the old ginseng they had just found and, while Wan Suizhou was helping Xiao Qi up, presented the ginseng to Wan Suizhou.
“Mr. Suizhou, this is Qi’er’s tuition fee. Please accept it.”
Wan Suizhou glanced at it and then pushed it over, saying, "It is fate that you can become my disciple. The tuition fee has already been set. I charge others five strings of cash, and I should charge you five strings of cash as well."
