Chapter 227 The Mermaid Baby Wants to See Lord Shen

Wanwan didn't hear what her mother shouted; she just kept running.

Listening to her master, Shen Yuheng's identity is most likely Xiao Qi. He is in trouble now, and if she helps him under the guise of a princess, the Wan family will also be dragged into the mess. She cannot return to the Wan family immediately, so she can only find a way to hide herself first.

Where is it hidden?

Wanwan scratched her head and thought for a while, and finally the name Cao Chengye flashed through her mind.

He's also in the capital, and he probably knows Shen Yuheng's true identity, so it would be much easier to find him.

With this in mind, Wanwan rushed to the Cao family that very night.

Cao Chengye, who was woken up in the middle of the night, was bewildered when he saw Wanwan, who appeared at the door covered in frost under the stars. After hearing Wanwan's brief explanation, he was still a little confused. It took him a while to let Wanwan into the house and make room for her.

Although she was slow, she was naturally willing to take Wanwan in and agreed not to inform the Wan family of her return.

Wanwan also took the opportunity to verify Shen Yuheng's identity with him.

In this way, Shen Yuheng is Xiao Qi, and Xiao Qi is the young prince who escaped death in the case of Prince An back then. Now that he has returned to the capital, even a fool would know what he wants to do. No wonder he has to disguise his identity.

Wanwan paced back and forth in the courtyard for half the night under the cold moonlight.

Now that Xiao Qi is outnumbered and has excluded her, she can't just let him go out alone to take revenge; she has to go with him!

Wanwan didn't know why she had such a strong urge to stand with Xiao Qi. She only knew that Brother Xiao was very important, but he seemed to be different from her brother and grandfather. She just wanted to stand with him without any selfishness or regard for her own safety.

The next day, just as dawn broke, Wanwan got up and dressed. She used her not-so-skilled rouge and powder to subtly change her appearance with magic, and slipped into the Shen residence before Cao Chengye left.

The Shen Mansion was deathly still. There were no decorations at the main gate. Two guards stood at the gate, their postures upright and their grip on their weapons was standard and powerful. They stared straight ahead, and even through the thin mist, they exuded a sense of oppression.

"Who goes there?" A guard immediately spotted Wanwan.

Wanwan pulled the jade pendant from her waist and showed it to the two guards. "Baili Wanwan requests an audience with Lord Shen. This jade pendant was given to me by Lord Shen. He also gave me a wooden hairpin before that."

The two guards squinted and examined the jade pendant closely. They exchanged a glance, and one of them understood and hurriedly ran into the mansion.

Before half a cup of tea could be brewed, Chen Yuheng emerged.

However, he was accompanied by a charming woman.

Even though she had seen Shen Yuheng's face countless times, Wanwan's heart still tightened slightly when she glimpsed it again.

She didn't know whether to be happy or uneasy. Shen Yuheng's face was unparalleled in the world, but it was as if it was covered with a layer of frost. Wanwan had never seen Xiao Qi look at her so cold and indifferent. He was like a block of ice standing there. He was dressed in black, which made him look even more serious and aloof, making people afraid to get close to him.

The woman beside him stood confidently and naturally, dressed in a light blue dress, charming and noble, with a pair of beautiful fox-like eyes that seemed to hook people, causing their hearts to flutter. She spoke playfully to the serious and gloomy Chen Heng, as if she had special privileges.

Wanwan's heart tightened, as if it had been gripped tightly by an invisible hand.

"Bai Li Wanwan?" Shen Yuheng glanced at Wanwan indifferently, his eyes calm and icy, almost overflowing with coldness. He spoke with a mix of sarcasm and nonchalance.

The woman beside him was named Chu Ying. She was specially placed by Marquis Xining to be by Shen Yuheng's side. Marquis Xining had taken a liking to Shen Yuheng's talent and wanted to find an opportunity to seize his weakness and recruit him into his faction. That's why he specially arranged a beauty by his side.

Chu Ying walked to Shen Yuheng's side and seemed to intentionally or unintentionally brushed against him. When she looked at Wanwan, it was as if she were looking at an enemy. She looked her up and down carefully, and her fox-like eyes revealed a fox-like cunning and threat.

"Go away, you little shrew, where did you come from? Our Lord Shen doesn't know you."

Her voice was also incredibly charming.

Her arched brow twitched, and without glancing at Chu Ying, she looked straight at Chen Yuheng.

Their eyes met, one expectant, the other indifferent. Meeting such a cold gaze, it seemed as if Wanwan's heart had been frozen instantly.

"Lord Shen, please take another look. You really don't recognize this jade pendant?" Wanwan's throat tightened, and her voice trembled slightly as she spoke.

Shen Yuheng didn't bother to look at her again. He glanced at the jade pendant indifferently and said in a cold tone, "I don't recognize this jade pendant, and I've never heard of anyone called Baili Wanwan."

"Did you hear that? Did you hear that?" Chu Ying's voice rose eight octaves as she laughed arrogantly. "Our adults said they don't know you. Do you think you can get anything out of a broken jade pendant? You're like a toad trying to eat swan meat. You don't even know your own worth!"

As she spoke, Chu Ying strode over, her mind racing for a moment, then suddenly raised the jade pendant and smashed it to the ground, shattering it instantly.

Chu Ying was startled by her actions and stomped her feet frantically. She turned and ran into Shen Yuheng's arms, but he dodged away without making a sound.

"Hey! You little madwoman! Get out of here!" Chu Ying yelled in a shrill voice.

Wanwan smashed the jade pendant, her face turning pale. "Fine, I'll pretend I mistook you for someone else today! I'll never appear again!"

"Get out! Get out!" Chu Ying was still yelling.

Wanwan covered her face, turned around, and quickly disappeared around the corner.

She's not that stupid.

From the moment Chu Ying appeared, Wanwan knew that this person was no pushover. She was certain that Shen Yuheng was Xiao Qi. Now that he was in this state, Wanwan knew that he was probably in trouble, either being monitored or having some kind of hardship.

The more he acted this way, the more determined Wanwan became to get close to him.

Recalling Chu Ying's appearance, Wanwan guessed that she was Xiao Qi's source of distress, and that she must be connected to Marquis Xining. When she saw Chu Ying coming over to look at the jade pendant, Wanwan became even more certain. She quickly smashed the jade pendant and used all her lying skills to put on a show in front of that woman.

She can't go during the day, so she can only go at night.

Wanwan's mission failed miserably, and she could only temporarily retreat to the Cao family home, waiting for the night to fall.

Fortunately, the mermaid race also belongs to the night. Soon after the night enveloped the capital, Wanwan changed into her night clothes, leaped over the wall, and ran towards the Shen Mansion.

The walls of the Shen residence weren't high, and Wanwan easily sneaked in and found Shen Yuheng's room.

She dared not risk going to his study.

Who knows if we'll run into a tough nut like Chu Ying!

I had no choice but to rudely go to his room.

"It's you again." Shen Yuheng was about to go to bed when he bumped into Wanwan, who had slipped in, as he was halfway through taking off his clothes.

He calmly put his clothes back on, without showing any wariness towards Wanwan.
