Chapter Eight: The Mermaid Baby is Very Thoughtful

Baili Wanwan frowned. Following her thoughts, the spiritual pearl on her head shimmered with a faint light. Then, the water vat in the corner slowly overflowed, flooding the baskets of vegetables that Zhao Damei had placed next to it.

These vegetables were specially bought by Zhao Damei at the market.

She didn't have much money and couldn't afford meat. After wandering around most of the market, she chose an honest-looking old man selling vegetables.

I bought it from him at half price, partly through coercion and partly through trickery.

Fishing villages are located by the sea, and the weather is humid all day long, making it difficult to preserve vegetables, especially since they cannot get wet, otherwise they will rot even faster.

Seeing that the water in the vat had completely submerged the vegetables, Baili Wanwan blinked and then let out a soft breath.

She had always felt sorry for Grandpa Wan's family, since they couldn't bear to eat the fish in their house, and their life must be very difficult.

Now that she had finally earned some money, that wicked grandma took it all away, which made Baili Wanwan very angry!

"Oh no! How could this happen?! What's going on?!"

Zhao Damei originally wanted to squeeze some more money out of Wan Suizhou, but was suddenly startled by Wan Suijin's roar.

She turned her head impatiently and saw Wan Suijin standing in front of the pot of waterlogged vegetables, looking furious.

"Oh! My dish!"

Zhao Damei no longer had time to argue with Wan Suizhou; she lifted her skirt and went to get her own vegetables.

Wan Suijin stood aside and watched like a lazy bum.

Not only did they not take any action, but they also kept nagging and criticizing from the sidelines.

"Is this all the junk you bought after spending a whole day at the market? It's a complete waste of my money!"

Upon hearing this, Zhao Damei instantly flew into a rage. Forgetting about the food in the bowl, she pointed at Wan Suijin's nose and yelled, "Wan, do you even speak human language?!"

She snorted, giving him a disdainful look, and said angrily, "I want to buy some meat and fish too! But I've been with you my whole life, and I've only had meat a few times..."

These words struck a nerve with Wan Suijin. Adhering to the principle of "I'm poor, so I'm right," Wan Suijin began to hurl insults at Zhao Damei.

Baili Wanwan, who was lying by the door, looked at Zhao Damei and Wan Suijin with a blank expression as they started to bring up old grievances.

She is still young and doesn't understand these trivial matters of the world.

Firstly, poverty-stricken couples face a hundred sorrows.

Secondly, if one's mind is not upright, life will not go smoothly, which is another matter.

Wan Suizhou, standing to the side, seemed to have long been used to the intense scenes of the two fighting every three days and every five days.

He wanted to go up and mediate the fight, but then he seemed to remember how his good intentions were always taken for granted.

So he just sighed, turned around and walked away helplessly.

As soon as he turned around, Wan Suizhou saw a small face peeking out from behind the door frame, with round, grape-like eyes blinking.

Wan Suizhou was somewhat surprised, but he walked out calmly and then, taking advantage of the fact that the arguing couple behind him were not looking, he shielded Wanwan in front of him.

"Wanwan, what brings you here?"

Wan Suizhou affectionately stroked her fluffy head and asked in a low voice.

With her head tilted back and her innocent eyes blinking, Bai Liwan replied crisply, "That grandma is so dark-skinned, Wanwan is afraid grandpa will be bullied..."

Wan Suizhou was completely confused by her words.

But upon further reflection, I realized that children of this age do not yet have mature language skills, so I made some of my own understanding.

He didn't quite understand what Wanwan meant by Zhao Damei's dark skin, but after thinking about it carefully, he felt that she probably meant something similar to words like 'black-hearted' or 'bad person'.

Thinking about it, he realized that Wanwan's real intention was to worry about him, so he smiled at her with great affection.

"Next time, if you want to come along, you should say so. If you sneak off on your own, you might get lost," Wan Suizhou said softly, explaining the situation to her.

Baili Wanwan nodded, half understanding.

The argument inside the house continued to escalate, even to the point of physical altercations.

Afraid of frightening Wanwan, Wan Suizhou said to her, "Let's go home."

Baili Wanwan nodded obediently and followed Wan Suizhou back.

However, she possesses a spiritual pearl, giving her a perception ability that is always different from ordinary people.

Wan Suizhou was feeling somewhat troubled by the matter between Wan Suijin and Zhao Damei, but Baili Wanwan noticed this subtle emotion.

But she didn't understand this emotion and thought Wan Suizhou was unhappy because he had lost the money he had just earned.

So she very considerately reached out her little hand and held Wan Suizhou's hand, saying to him in a very serious tone, "Grandpa Wan, don't be sad. You saved Wanwan, you are a very good person. Wanwan will definitely work hard to catch fish to repay Grandpa Wan!"

Listening to Baili Wanwan's innocent words, Wan Suizhou knew that she was just a child and had no idea what it meant to earn money to support a family, but he was still happy for her comforting words.

He squeezed her little hand and smiled, saying, "Okay, Grandpa knows our Wanwan is a good girl, but you're a little kid, you don't need to catch fish, just grow up happily with Kui'er and Chi'er..."

Upon hearing this, Baili Wanwan immediately became unhappy: "Wanwan really can catch fish, Auntie knows that! If Wanwan can catch fish, then she's not a little kid anymore!"

Although there was a childlike innocence in his words, Wan Suizhou still sensed something was amiss.

Looking at Baili Wanwan's serious face, he decided to appease her first and ask her what had happened when they got home.

The two chatted and laughed as they returned home. As soon as they entered the courtyard, Baili Wanwan was called away by Wan Yuekui to play with Wan Yuechi.

Seeing the three of them so happy, even the adults couldn't help but smile.

Seeing Zhang Xiu preparing to cook, Wan Suizhou took the opportunity to ask about fishing in the sea near Baili Wanwan.

Zhang Xiu hadn't intended to hide it, but when Wan Suizhou asked, she told him about Wanwan secretly fishing with her last time.

Wan Suizhou was quite surprised to see that such a small baby was such a good swimmer.

"This girl is such a good swimmer, she must come from a family nearby that makes a living by fishing. Her family must be frantic with worry after she's been missing for days. Tomorrow, I'll have Kui'er take her to the nearby fishing villages to inquire and see who her family is..."

Hearing Wan Suizhou say this, Zhang Xiu felt a little reluctant to part with the snow-white and well-behaved little girl, but when he thought that her family might also be worried every day, he couldn't help but frown.

"Okay, my wife will give Kui a few words of advice tonight."

The next morning, after breakfast, Wan Yuekui listened to his mother and set off with Baili Wanwan.

Although their beach is large, it is surrounded by mountains to the north and south, so it is not that big. The surrounding fishing villages are not far apart, and you will soon reach the neighboring village by following the beach.
