Chapter 1 Descending the Mountain

Fusang Temple.

In front of the magnificent Taoist temple, a middle-aged man dressed in a dark blue Taoist robe grabbed Yuan Qi's arm and wept bitterly.

"My disciple, look at his complexion; it's dull and lifeless, and his forehead is bluish. It's clear he's about to suffer a great misfortune. I can't bear to see you suffer like this!"

"Don't get your snot on me, it's dirty..."

Yuan Qi laboriously pulled his arm away, then disdainfully moved aside, arguing earnestly:

"Master, it's him who's going to be in big trouble, not me."

"No!" Daoist Guangcheng grabbed Yuan Qi's arm again, sobbing uncontrollably. "Back then, your mother came here to give birth to you and died. You were only this little bit old then. How much rice did you eat to grow up like this? How many sleepless nights did your master stay up to take care of you? To take care of you, how many meals did your master go hungry herself to make sure you were full? Do you know how hard it was for me..."

"Here we go again..." Yuan Qi grumbled loudly, annoyed. Her master had said this a million times. Every time she got something good, he would say it. And then her good stuff would end up in her master's hands.

Yuan Qi pouted and reluctantly pulled out a stack of talismans from her cloth bag, handing them to Daoist Guangcheng: "Is this alright? These talismans should last you three to five years."

She held out her small hand to him: "I started working when I was five years old. The fact that our Taoist temple is so prosperous now is all thanks to me. I have already repaid the debt of gratitude I owe you."

Back then, Yuan Qi's mother, heavily pregnant, traveled a long way to seek refuge with her father. When she arrived at Fusang Temple, the pregnancy began, and Yuan Qi's mother suffered a difficult childbirth. She gave birth to Yuan Qi with great difficulty, but died without even looking at her daughter.

Yuan Qi was reincarnated as a baby. He failed his tribulation and was struck by purple lightning and sent to this small world. Nine and a half years have passed since then.

She was proficient in Taoist magic and could do anything. She was skilled in fortune telling, divination, feng shui, exorcising ghosts and demons, and was also an expert in medicine. She used the Thirteen Ghost Needles technique with unparalleled skill.

Guangcheng Daojun was still not giving up: "Look at his thin ears and horizontal lines on the bridge of his nose. He is obviously an unlucky person, and his marriage is not harmonious. You, an outsider, will only suffer if you go there."

The young Taoist priest, a head taller than her, also had reddened his eyes: "Junior sister, I've inquired. The Jiang family is one of the four great families in the capital. Your father has many wives and concubines and a large number of children. Your mother has been dead for nine and a half years, and he only came to look for you now. It's clear that he doesn't love your mother, let alone you. Master is afraid that you will be bullied, so he doesn't want you to leave."

Yuan Qi confidently raised his chin and patted his chest: "Don't worry, no one who can bully me has been born yet."

"I know my disciple is amazing..." Daoist Guangcheng looked through the talismans one by one. Sure enough, there were all kinds of talismans, many of which were quite powerful. He said with emotion, "It's not that your master is greedy for your talismans. It's just that your master has used up a lot of spiritual energy raising you for so many years and needs to recover for a while before he can draw talismans."

Yuan Qi drew out his voice and said sarcastically, "I know that Master's Taoist magic is profound and he can do anything. These are my way of showing respect to you. I will come to see you often in the future."

And so, Yuan Qi left Fusang Temple carrying only a small cloth bag, leaving behind the weeping Master Guangcheng and his disciples.

The people sent by the Jiang family were already waiting outside the Taoist temple.

At the foot of the mountain, there was a carriage parked, which was specially prepared for Yuan Qi.

There were quite a few servants scattered around, making quite a spectacle, but Yuan Qi looked around and couldn't see a single person who looked like a master. Let alone Jiang Zhengqing, her biological father, whom she had visited at the Taoist temple last time.

A rather pretty woman stepped forward. Looking at Yuan Qi's coarse Taoist robe and his thin figure, she could tell he had suffered a lot, and her eyes showed a hint of contempt.

She gave Yuan Qi a perfunctory curtsy and said arrogantly, "This servant is He Xiang, the head maid of Madam. I have been ordered by Madam to bring the Seventh Miss back to the mansion."

Yuan Qi craned her neck and stood on tiptoe to look around, and after confirming that Jiang Zhengqing was not there, she asked her, "Where is Jiang Zhengqing? Didn't he say he was coming to pick me up in person?"

He Xiang immediately became angry and scolded fiercely, "Seventh Miss, watch your words! How can you address the Marquis by his name so directly?"

Although Yuan Qi was short, he had a commanding presence. He raised his small face in surprise and asked, "Did you teach me to say that? What, did I say something wrong?"

He Xiang thought the other party was being unreasonable and was just a young girl who hadn't even grown up yet, so she didn't take her seriously at all and spoke even more aggressively: "When did this servant teach Seventh Miss to call the Marquis by his name?"

Yuan Qi snorted: "As a servant, you can speak to your master in a disrespectful manner. I thought you meant that everyone in the Jiang family is unruly, and that servants can speak to their masters in a disrespectful manner, so juniors can naturally call their elders by their names."

Although He Xiang felt that Yuan Qi was not someone to be trifled with, given her young age and sharp tongue, she still regarded her as a child and could not possibly see her as a true master. Let alone kneel down in fear.

She retorted angrily, "I am the head maidservant of the Madam. Even the eldest young master treats me with utmost respect. The seventh young lady is a concubine's daughter who has never learned any manners since childhood. It is only right and proper for me to teach you a few rules. Even if this matter goes to the Madam, I am in the right."

She glanced down at her with disdain and said coolly, "Seventh Miss, you'd better get in the carriage quickly, or you won't be able to enter the city today."

Yuan Qi met her cold, indifferent, and even somewhat disgusted gaze, and really wanted to go up and punch her.

However, she smiled slightly and put on a very obedient appearance:

"Judging from your face, your eyes are sunken and your cheekbones are prominent. You are also mean-spirited and ungrateful, so your marriage will definitely be hindered. If you cultivate some kindness in your daily life, you may be able to marry a kind and caring person in the future. If you do not repent, you will definitely only be able to marry a disabled person in the future."

He Xiang immediately grabbed Yuan Qi by the collar and shoved her: "Seventh Miss, you've lived in the Taoist temple for several years now, do you really think you're the True Lord of the temple? Stop pretending to be a god and trying to scare me. If you don't behave, I'll tell Madam about you calling the Marquis by his name and have her punish you."

Yuan Qi merely shook his shoulder slightly, and He Xiang's hand went numb for a moment. She immediately let go to check, and her entire hand was still tingling.

She stared at Yuan Qi in disbelief, shaking her hand. She subconsciously felt that the numbness in her hand was not Yuan Qi's doing. After all, she was only nine and a half years old and didn't understand anything. How could he possibly plot against her?

But she didn't dare touch Yuan Qi anymore, only finding him strange.

She then quoted what the madam had said, warning Yuan Qi: "Seventh Miss, the Marquis's mansion has many rules, and the people living there are all nobles you've never met in your life. The madam said to remind you to speak less and not to look around carelessly, as you will be punished if you offend your master. You are of lowly status, so don't take yourself too seriously."
