Chapter 34 Honest and Fair Dealing

As Yuan Qi left, Du Haitang was peering into the dining hall through the doorway.

Du Haitang was followed by more than a dozen infant spirits, some of which were already formed, some were one or two years old, and some were not even formed, just a cloud of black mist without even a clear face.

Yuan Qi snorted. The Jiang family has really committed a lot of sins.

Concubine Li stood next to Jiang Zhengqing and spoke softly, "My lord, I think that Madam must be possessed by some evil spirit. Why don't you let Miss Qi take a look?"

Jiang Zhengqing thought Yuan Qi should be able to see something, which was why he said that, so he just hummed in agreement.

Xiangli Mingzhu immediately objected: "She's just pretending to be a ghost. I don't believe her. Tomorrow I'll go to Wuxiang Temple and ask Master Huineng to take a look at me. I won't ask her for help."

Jiang Zhengqing was too lazy to argue with Xiangli Mingzhu, so he got up and left, and Li Guiqie immediately followed.

Du Haitang and the infant spirits, who were hiding at the entrance of the dining hall, immediately became excited and rushed towards Xiangli Mingzhu.

The dining hall immediately became cold and damp, and even Jiang Bailu, Jiang Songlu, and Jiang Juncai felt a chill all over their bodies.

Du Haitang grabbed Xiangli Mingzhu by the neck.

Xiangli Mingzhu immediately felt short of breath. She felt something choking her neck and she desperately tried to dig it out.

But to others, it seems like Xiangli Mingzhu is pinching herself.

Everyone panicked immediately. There really was something evil trying to kill Xiangli Mingzhu, and they had no choice but to believe it.

Jiang Juncai had no good ideas either. Even though he was the leader of the Imperial Guard and had few rivals in martial arts, he was completely helpless when it came to dealing with gods and ghosts. He said resentfully, "I'll go and ask Seventh Sister for help!"

Xiangli Mingzhu no longer cared about objecting; she felt like she was about to be strangled and rolled her eyes.

Jiang Bailu and Jiang Songlu were quite frightened.

Yuan Qi returned shortly afterward.

As soon as she returned, Du Haitang immediately led the infant spirits away in a flash.

Xiangli Mingzhu's face turned purple, and she was panting heavily, recovering slowly.

Jiang Jun asked coldly, "Can you see what kind of evil spirit it is?"

Yuan Qi felt that Du Haitang had died unjustly and that revenge was justified. He believed that Xiangli Mingzhu did not take his concubines and illegitimate sons seriously and arbitrarily took their lives, so he deserved to be punished.

But her facial features indicate that she is not destined to die; she has another thirty or forty years to live, and she will not die.

She didn't want Du Haitang to be heartbroken because of someone like that.

"There is a female ghost, but I don't know her," Yuan Qi lied without batting an eye.

Jiang Juncai was furious: "Then why didn't you say so earlier!"

Yuan Qi said, "I told you, but you didn't believe me. Let me say it again: Mother, you'd better do more good deeds and accumulate virtue in the future, and stop killing innocent people. Otherwise, the retribution will not only be this, but will also affect your descendants."

After she finished speaking, she was about to leave when Jiang Juncai grabbed her wrist: "Father said you have some skills, so he left a talisman for Mother to protect her."

Yuan Qi easily broke free with a flick of his wrist, the shock even making half of Yuan Qi's arm go numb.

Jiang Juncai was extremely shocked. He had few rivals in the capital. Despite his seemingly casual grip, few people could escape from his grasp.

But Yuan Qi, who was only nine and a half years old, managed to do it.

"One hundred taels per sheet," Yuan Qi said coldly. She had no intention of giving a gift to this family out of friendship.

Jiang Juncai was furious: "You want money from your own family?"

Yuan Qi pouted and snorted, giving him a sidelong glance before retorting defiantly, "Do you consider me family?"

Jiang Juncai was speechless. He sent his servant with four hundred taels of silver to Yuan Qi, intending to give his mother, his two younger sisters, and himself a protective amulet.

Yuan Qi took out four amulets from his cloth bag, handed them to him, and turned to leave.

Du Haitang was waiting for Yuan Qi at Shaoyao Residence.

Yuan Qi didn't want to help her or interfere in other people's karma. He only reminded her, "My protective talisman is very powerful, so don't touch it anymore."

Du Haitang was unwilling to accept it: "But she killed me, I want revenge."

Yuan Qi ignored her.

But Du Haitang was persistent and kept pestering Yuan Qi to explain her reasons.

She sat on the ground and cried.

"I just wanted to have a child so I could have someone to rely on in the future. I didn't want anything from the Jiang family. I just wanted someone to depend on in the future. But Xiangli Mingzhu killed me. Why can't I take revenge? How can you be an accomplice to evil?"

Yuan Qi focused on drawing talismans and ignored her.

She continued, "The Marquis has many women in his harem. He once said that the women in the Spring Light Courtyard are not allowed to have children. Before the Marquis favors us, we drink a contraceptive soup. If we get pregnant, we will have to abort."

"Without children, without a formal title, we can only bloom like flowers for a few days before quickly withering away, disappearing completely from the world. I don't want that. I want a child. I don't want any title, nor do I want the Marquis's exclusive favor. I just want a child... Waaah..."

Du Haitang was crying her heart out when Jiang Jiulu, Jiang Junjing, and Jiang Junyu arrived.

The three of them passed through Du Haitang's soul and went directly to Yuan Qi's table, patiently waiting for Yuan Qi to finish drawing a talisman before speaking.

Jiang Junjing smiled and placed a hundred-tael silver note in front of her: "Seventh Sister, I also want a peace charm."

Jiang Junyu echoed, "I want one too."

Jiang Jiulu also put down a silver note: "Seventh sister, we heard that Mother was possessed by an evil spirit and was almost strangled to death. Eldest brother bought you a talisman, and she was fine. I want to buy one too."

Yuan Qi put away the silver note and smiled sweetly: "No problem, no problem."

She put the silver notes into her cloth bag, took out three amulets from the bag, and handed one to each person: "Just keep them close to your body."

Then she took out three more items from her cloth bag: a gold hairpin with a plum blossom design, a silver hairpin with a bamboo pattern, and a jade pendant with auspicious cloud patterns.

"Brothers, Fifth Sister, this is a magical artifact I've nurtured. It's more than ten times more effective than amulets. Wearing it can not only ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune, but also protect you from disasters. I'm offering it for five thousand taels. Will you buy it?"

The three of them looked at each other and chuckled.

It turns out their seventh sister is a little money-grubber.

Seeing the three men smiling without saying a word, Yuan Qi's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that they wanted too much?

Although Jiang Junjing and Jiang Junyu are only twenty years old, they are among the most prominent figures in the capital, and their fame is no less than that of Jiang Juncai.

Jiang Junjing is a shrewd businessman whose wealth rivals that of a nation, and Jiang Junyu has a brilliant plan to bring peace to the world, so she is never short of money.

Yuan Qi forced himself to emphasize one point: "It's honest and reliable, it really works!"

Jiang Junjing said generously, "I want this jade pendant. The silver notes will be delivered later."

Jiang Jiulu picked up a plum blossom hairpin and put it in her hair: "Second Brother, I'm a little short on money..."

Jiang Junjing looked at her with affection: "I'll pay the five thousand taels for you."

Jiang Junyu took the bamboo-patterned silver hairpin, replaced the one in her hair, and then said sourly, "I'm a little short on money lately..."
