Chapter 4 Going Ghost Hunting

Bai Youhui changed his form of address and became much friendlier: "Little sister, can you tell me what's going on?"

He felt a sense of shame, as if his secrets had been completely exposed.

Although the child spoke eloquently, fortunately, the child didn't understand anything, so he pretended to be stupid.

He then took out a silver ingot from his purse and tossed it over, saying with a smile, "If you can help me solve this problem, I'll give you even more silver."

Yuan Qi looked at the fifty-tael silver ingot, his eyes shining, his lips curving into a smile, and his eyes narrowing into crescents.

Yuan Qi beckoned to him with his finger, his little mouth opening and closing mysteriously as he whispered, "You've encountered a ghost, and a female ghost at that. If you go again tonight, you're dead."

Doesn't this mean he's been sleeping with a female ghost all along? Although he was scared, he still found it too bizarre and didn't quite believe it.

“How could the Moon Maiden be a ghost? Little sister, you can’t lie or cheat. Children shouldn’t talk nonsense.”

Yuan Qi stood up, gently lifted the bamboo pole stuck in the bluestone slab with his small hand, and put it into his small cloth bag.

Bai Youhui was even more surprised than if he had seen a ghost. He put that long bamboo pole into his small cloth bag!

Bai Youhui peered into Yuan Qi's small cloth bag, which, though small, seemed bottomless and endless. He felt like he was dreaming, and pinched himself hard—it hurt!

Yuan Qi grabbed his hair and pulled him away: "What are you doing? What are you doing?"

Bai Youhui felt he had met a master, and that the little girl might be a fairy descended from heaven to save him: "Little girl, no, fairy sister, do you have a solution?"

Yuan Qi laboriously picked up the Bagua diagram from the ground. She thought this person was a fool with too much money, so she held up three fingers.

Bai Youhui, brimming with confidence, said, "Three thousand taels, no problem. But Miss Yue is so kind, she's definitely not a ghost."

However, he still felt that Miss Yue was not a ghost, but someone else around him must be the ghost.

Yuan Qi's smile froze on her face; what she actually wanted to say was three hundred taels. Then she broke into an even bigger smile.

“However…” Bai Youhui looked at Yuan Qi with great suspicion. He was too young and didn’t seem like someone who could catch ghosts. “Who are you planning to go ghost hunting with?”

Yuan Qi knew that people didn't trust her. She had encountered this situation many times before, and she already had a plan. She took out a bronze mirror from her small cloth bag: "I have a Bagua mirror, a magic tool given to me by my master."

She pointed the Bagua mirror at Bai Youhui: "With just this one look, she won't be able to escape."

Bai Youhui took it with some skepticism, looked at himself in the mirror, and the sunlight reflected off the mirror, which then refracted the light onto a passing carriage.

He saw clearly that a wisp of black smoke drifted out of the carriage behind him and disappeared in a flash.

With a clatter, the Bagua mirror fell to the ground. He was so frightened that his face turned even paler. He turned around sharply and saw an eleven or twelve-year-old boy sticking his head out of the carriage and looking in his direction.

Bai Youhui shouted, "A ghost!"

Yuan Qi saw it too. She put the Bagua mirror away in her small cloth bag and walked towards the carriage.

That cloud of black energy came from inside. Now it seems that the boy has spiritual energy fluctuations, so he should also be a cultivator. It's just that I don't know why he is surrounded by black energy.

The young man was extremely handsome, with eyes that seemed to be bottomless deep pools. His face, slightly melancholic, was sickly pale, even his lips were white. One hand was resting on the car window, staring at Yuan Qi.

His blank stare and bloodless face made him look exactly like a ghost.

Yuan Qi took out a talisman from his cloth bag: "A talisman to ward off evil spirits, one hundred taels each, do you want it?"

The boy's voice was cold: "You are the disciple of Daoist Guangcheng?"

Yuan Qi blinked his big eyes and nodded: "Yes, that's me."

Yesterday before dawn, he went to Fusang Temple to seek medical help, only to learn that the young Taoist priest who could cure his illness had already gone down the mountain.

He gestured to his attendant, who immediately presented him with a silver note worth one hundred taels.

Yuan Qi happily accepted the talisman, and the other party took it. However, she felt she hadn't asked for enough; the other party had been too quick to agree and hadn't even haggled over the price.

Next time I'll definitely ask for more.

“Yes, if you want to find me, come here.” She pointed to the big locust tree behind her.

"Okay." The boy left with a single word, lowered the carriage curtain, and left.

Yuan Qi turned around and saw Bai Youhui's very surprised eyes: "Little girl, do you know who that person is?"

"I don't know." Yuan Qi didn't even look up, giving a slight, miserly smile. He casually put the silver ingot into his small cloth bag, patted it with satisfaction, and thought that today's trip hadn't been in vain.

"He is Xiangli Youming, the ninth young master of the Xiangli family, the most promising junior member of the Xiangli clan. It's a pity that he was ambushed during a martial arts competition with a member of the family two years ago and became sickly. He has seen many famous doctors but has not recovered. However, I heard that after becoming sickly, he became fierce and violent and killed many people. Compared to him, I am but a small fry. But if you can cure him, he will give you one million taels of silver!"

Yuan Qi tilted his head, his big eyes wide open, and asked, "Really? Isn't that too much?"

Feng Zhaolin said with certainty, "Of course it's true. The Xiangli family is so wealthy that even the royal family can't compare to them. If you cure him, it's equivalent to curing the ruler of the world."

Bai Youhui steered the conversation back to himself: "Could you sell me one of the talismans you just sold to him?"

Yuan Qi pouted and shook his head like a rattle-drum: "No, this won't work on you."

Bai Youhui pulled out a silver note and shook it vigorously: "I've got plenty of money!"

Yuan Qi stared at the silver note: "I really like how incredibly wealthy you are." She silently took out a talisman from her cloth bag and handed it to him.

"Let's go, let's go ghost hunting. Tell me, how many women have you slept with lately, and which one are you most infatuated with..."

"Cough cough cough cough..." Bai Youhui choked on his own saliva. A little kid asked such a question without batting an eye. He was so embarrassed that he had nowhere to hide his face.

He awkwardly held up one finger: "Just one, just one."

Bai Youhui helped Yuan Qi into the carriage, and on the way, he told Yuan Qi about how he met the female ghost.

“A few days ago, it was my grandmother’s birthday, and my mother wanted to embroider a picture of a hundred longevity symbols as a gift for her. I happened to know a skilled embroiderer, so I volunteered to do the job. I went directly to Yueji Embroidery Shop. The owner of the shop was a young woman named Yueya. She had been running the shop for seven or eight years and had an excellent reputation. I showed her the pattern of the hundred longevity symbols, and she invited me to have tea. She accidentally knocked over the teacup and wet my clothes.”

"Yueya asked me to go to the back to take off my wet clothes, and she helped me dry them. After a while, we started having sex, and I felt like I couldn't live without her. I wanted to be with her every day..."
