"Keep it," Yuan Qi said, too lazy to change the person. "Didn't you say I was supposed to visit my grandmother? Hurry up."
Xiangli Mingzhu was furious: "They have no manners at all."
Yuan Qi was always scolded by the Jiang family members, which annoyed her. She stubbornly retorted, "Where have I been unruly?"
Xiangli Mingzhu shook her head angrily: "Look at them, they still don't know they're wrong. If the elders don't point it out, how can the juniors urge them? They really are born without being taught... They must be taught proper manners."
Yuan Qi was furious when she heard this. How could the mistress of the house be so vicious as to say such things? It was simply too much.
She couldn't take it anymore—
"Yes, my mother died young, so no one taught me manners. But I also know that it's better to keep these kinds of insults to myself. To say them out loud is truly ill-mannered!" Yuan Qi pointed at Xiangli Mingzhu without regard for the consequences. "Do you know that saying such things will bring retribution? I don't know how many people you've insulted as having been born but not raised. Be careful, or your son will come after you in your dreams tonight!"
Xiangli Mingzhu shuddered, a cold sweat breaking out on her back. Indeed, for the past six months or so, she had been encountering several children who were harassing her and demanding her life.
She even went to Wuji Palace to ask for a peace charm and went to temples to burn incense and pray for blessings, but it was all to no avail.
"My lord, did you see that? I told you we couldn't let her come back. Look at her, she curses me the moment she returns! This is outrageous! I've been having nightmares for the past six months. You little wretch, tell me, did you do something shameful in the Taoist temple to curse me?!"
Yuan Qi wasn't afraid at all; at worst, she would just leave, since she didn't care about the Jiang family anyway.
She pointed a finger at Xiangli Mingzhu, her dark, bright eyes meeting Xiangli Mingzhu's gaze without the slightest fear:
"Don't you know what wrong you've done? Don't you know why those kids are coming after you?"
Xiangli Mingzhu was furious, trembling with rage: "Guards, drag this ignorant fool out and teach her a lesson so she'll know what it means to respect her elders!"
"Alright!" Jiang Zhengqing was eager to save his mother. Master Xuanji had said that the old lady's only chance of survival lay with Yuan Qi, and she couldn't be punished now.
Yuan Qi's mother, Liu Qingzan, was the only woman Jiang Zhengqing ever truly loved in his life. If Yuan Qi hadn't looked somewhat like Liu Qingzan, why would he have brought her back?
Years ago, when he went to Anyuan County to manage floods, he was swept away by the floodwaters. It was Liu Qingzan who rescued him and took good care of him. Over time, the two fell in love and became intimate. Before leaving, he promised Liu Qingzan that he would return to marry her.
But after returning to the capital, he was so busy that he forgot about it. By the time he remembered it two years later, Liu Qingzan was long gone from Anyuan County.
"If you continue to be so disrespectful, don't blame me for being ruthless. The Jiang residence is not a Buddhist temple where you can do whatever you want. From now on, behave yourself and go see your grandmother."
A smug smile appeared on Yuan Qi's lips. She turned her head and made a face at Xiangli Mingzhu, then playfully stuck out her tongue.
Xiangli Mingzhu was so angry she felt dizzy. Her son and daughter were also furious. Jiang Bailu comforted her in a low voice, "Mother, don't be angry. I'll teach her a lesson for you later."
Jiang Juncai also said, "There will be plenty of opportunities to deal with her in the future, so Mother doesn't need to worry about this one moment."
Yuan Qi heard the three talking but didn't care. She followed Jiang Zhengqing into the bedroom.
A chilling aura swept over them, and Jiang Zhengqing, who was walking at the front, couldn't help but shiver. It was March, and all the other rooms were warm and cozy, but his mother's place was incredibly cold. Even though he was strong, he still felt a bit cold.
Yuan Qi discovered that even though it was March, there was still a charcoal brazier burning in the house, and the fire was burning very brightly.
The room was exquisitely furnished. The bed, bed stool, and small table beside the bed were all made of fine huanghuali wood, with very delicate carvings. Not far away, a bronze mirror was so bright that it reflected one's image. Next to the bronze mirror was an old dressing box, which was made by a skilled craftsman and had very delicate carvings and openwork.
The dense black evil energy that was coiled on the bed had long since discovered that there was a person radiating golden light of merit in the main room outside. What they feared most was this golden light of merit; if they were touched by even a little bit, their souls would be scattered.
Long before Yuan Qi entered, this malevolent aura had already fled to the window, ready to escape at any moment.
As soon as Yuan Qi entered, the malevolent aura escaped through the window.
Jiang Zhengqing noticed that the room was very cold when he first entered, but it wasn't so cold now.
Yuan Qi also noticed something amiss: "This thing is incredibly clever; it actually managed to escape."
Hearing Yuan Qi mutter, Jiang Zhengqing turned to her and asked in an annoyed tone, "What did you say? What do you mean, 'escaped'?"
Yuan Qi looked around and, finding nothing wrong with the feng shui layout of the house, replied, "The thing that made the old lady sick has escaped; it's a malevolent force that you can't see."
However, the formation of negative energy is inextricably linked to feng shui. The old lady is so ill, there must be something wrong with this house.
Jiang Zhengqing snorted: "You'd better not show off in front of me. The feng shui of this house has been checked by Master Xuanji, there will be no problem. You're so young and you're already thinking about deceiving people. I'll have to have your mother teach you a lesson later."
Yuan Qi noticed that there were two strings of coins hanging above the bedroom door frame, each bearing a faint trace of malevolent energy.
She was too short to reach them, and even when she jumped, she could only barely touch the tail of the Five Elements Coins. She looked at Jiang Zhengqing with longing eyes and said, "Father, there's something wrong with those two strings of Five Elements Coins. Take them down so I can take a look."
Jiang Zhengqing got even angrier: "What do you know? Master Xuanji said that hanging the Five Elements Coins at the bedroom door will ward off evil spirits and there will be no problem."
Yuan Qi's face puffed up and her little mouth pursed, looking quite angry: "That's true, but has Master Xuanji examined these Five Elements Coins? What if there's something wrong with them?"
She stood with her hands on her hips, looking like a little adult: "Don't look down on us!"
She was really angry; her puffed-up face looked like a hamster, which everyone found hilarious.
Jiang Bailu stood next to Xiangli Mingzhu, laughing the loudest. She even suggested seriously, "Father, why don't we do as Seventh Sister said and hand over the Five Elements Coins to her and see what tricks she plays?"
Jiang Zhengqing seriously considered Yuan Qi's words. These Five Elements Coins were not obtained from Master Xuanji's Taoist temple, but were offered by a servant named Cui Gu who served his mother. This servant had served his father's concubine, Aunt Wang, for many years.
Aunt Wang had a lot of conflicts with my mother when she was alive...
It's truly terrifying to think about.
Even though Aunt Wang is dead, she still dares to harm my mother.
He looked down at Yuan Qi with a furrowed brow, wondering if this nine-and-a-half-year-old child really knew something.
He walked over, took off the two strings of five-element coins, and handed them to Yuan Qi. He then whispered to the servants outside to bring Cui Gu over.
