Chapter 90 Neither life nor death

"Xia Ku Cao" is a man over fifty years old. His family has been practicing medicine for generations, and he is the seventh generation.

He didn't like the hustle and bustle of the world, so he went to a remote village and opened a Chinese medicine clinic. Although the location was remote, there was always a constant stream of people coming to visit.

Just yesterday, he met a strange patient whose symptoms could not be explained by medicine.

After much deliberation, he decided to consult relevant people.

Su Yan observed the man in front of her. He was surrounded by purple merits. "I guess you are a doctor."

"Prunella Vulgaris": "Master, you have a good eye. I have to see a patient soon, so I'll get straight to the point."

"Yesterday afternoon, I saw it was raining outside and thought there were no patients, so I prepared some herbal medicine on the examination table.

Suddenly, a strange woman walked in. She wrapped herself tightly, with only her eyes exposed.

The woman took off her hat and said, "Hello, doctor. I feel a little unwell. Can you prescribe some medicine for me?"

Dr. Shen looked at the woman in front of him. Her skin was pale and a little sickly, and her eyes were almost occupied by black pupils.

"Based on my years of experience, I concluded that she had a serious health problem, so I found a stool for her to sit on."

The woman held out her hand. "Doctor, please."

Doctor Shen put his hand on her pulse and waited for several seconds. There was no beat at all. He remembered that the medical book said that some people's pulses were opposite, so he changed his technique.

After waiting for several seconds, there was still no beating. Doctor Shen began to sweat. He stared carefully at the woman's pupils and found that they were empty and there was no reflection of anyone at all.

Doctor Shen swallowed his saliva, used the excuse of going to the back to get tools, and called his granddaughter, who was still a senior in college, over: "Go and take the pulse of the patient outside. No matter what the symptoms are, don't make them public."

Seeing that the person taking her pulse had changed, the woman did not get angry and still extended her hand gently.

"While my granddaughter was taking the woman's pulse, I observed her again and found a dark purple bruise behind her ear, the same one I saw on the dead body.

At this point, the granddaughter also noticed something was wrong. She stood up stiffly and said, "Grandpa, I'm too inexperienced to figure it out."

At this point, I was certain the woman was not alive. Afraid of disturbing her, I just made up a description of her illness and told her that I didn't have enough herbs and couldn't prescribe any medicine for her.

The woman seemed to have anticipated this situation: "Doctor Shen's medical skills are indeed superb. I came here today to seek clarification. Thank you for your understanding."

After she left, I was puzzled. If she was really not alive, how could she come and go freely in the sunlight and have thoughts and consciousness?

If she were dead, how could she possibly move herself?"

Su Yan helped her determine the answer: "The person you encountered is neither alive nor dead. In simple terms, she is already dead, and someone has used a secret method to trap her soul in her body, creating the illusion of being alive."

[I heard correctly, right? These are the zombies from ancient times! Those corpse drivers are real too.]

This world is completely different from the one I'm familiar with. It's true that living long enough allows you to see everything. I'll try to live a few more years.

[There's also someone around me who has very fair skin and wraps herself up tightly all day long. I wonder if she's also a living dead person.]

Dr. Shen was still digesting the shock brought by Su Yan when he heard Su Yan say, "Your destined person is outside the door. Open the door and welcome them in."

He subconsciously opened the door and saw a man holding the woman from yesterday appearing outside the door. He was so scared that several wrinkles disappeared.

Doctor Shen welcomed the two people in with ease, and comforted himself in his heart: The master must have her reasons for doing this, and she will definitely protect me.

Although he knew that there was a master sitting there, he sat as far away from them as possible.

The man gently placed the woman in his arms on a chair, turned around and knelt down towards Dr. Shen: “As long as you can save my wife’s life, I will agree to any request.”

Doctor Shen stammered, "You've got the wrong person. I'm just a doctor, the kind that can only heal living people."

The man didn't believe his words. The hexagram told him that only this place could give his wife a chance of survival.

In a hurry, he took out the knife and pointed it at Dr. Shen: “If my wife dies here today, I will drag you to be buried with her.”

Dr. Shen opened his mouth in shock. He had heard of disputes over medical problems caused by failure to cure a disease, but he had never encountered a dispute caused by professional incompatibility.

He wanted to go up and reason with him, but when he saw the gleaming knife, he decided it was better not to bother with a psychopath.

The woman leaning on the chair gently took the man's hand and said, "Don't make things difficult for me. I've died once before, so how can I have a glimmer of hope?"

The man hugged her tightly: "I don't allow you to say that. We agreed to spend our whole lives together. You can't break your promise."

The woman rubbed her head: "Don't do stupid things for me, my wish is that you live well."

Seeing that the two seemed to have forgotten their business, Su Yan coughed and said, "You two, although your conversation is very touching, this is not the time to show deep affection."

The man heard someone else's voice in the house and looked around: "Who is suspicious in the house?"

Dr. Shen finally found an opportunity to interrupt. He pointed to his phone and said, "Is it possible that your ray of hope refers to the master in the video?"

The man looked at the young Su Yan and said, "Who are you? Famous masters in the metaphysical world are not this young. Are you a charlatan?"

Su Yan smiled wryly: "Even if I'm a charlatan, with one of you dead and one injured, what's there for me to cheat you out of?"

"Tell me, why did you forcibly resurrect someone who had been dead for half a year? If it makes sense, I can still give you some advice."

Seeing that Su Yan had some skills, and thinking that the divination had never been wrong, the man decided to trust her once. If she was a liar, he would go to her house to settle the score.

"I was born into a tribe that has existed for thousands of years, and I began learning witchcraft since I was a child.

Not long after I became an adult, the local environment became unsuitable for living, so the tribe leader took us to find a new habitat.

After much calculation, we moved to a village that had been abandoned for a long time. In order to integrate into modern society, we began to learn to go out to work and go to school.

My wife and I met at work. Seeing that I knew nothing, she kindly came to explain to me the things I should pay attention to at work.

After a while, I fell in love with her. I secretly used her birthday to calculate our marriage, and the divination said it was a match made in heaven.

After my fierce pursuit, she became my girlfriend. Just when we were discussing when to get engaged, she had a car accident. When I rushed to the hospital, she was already dead.
