Chapter 148 Waiting for Boss Sheng to Die

A lignified root system bursts out of the ground at lightning speed.

They grabbed Boss Sheng, burrowed underground, and vanished instantly.

The incident happened so fast, in less than two seconds.

Xinghe transported the others to safety.

She was so angry that she cursed, "Next time, I will definitely develop a protective shield with no blind spots."

The protective shield has been passed down to the present day and has always maintained a semi-circular shape.

There aren't many attacks from underground; the shield can block most of the damage.

But Xinghe has already encountered it a second time.

She is about to improve the protective shield, right now, immediately.

Xinghe kept a cold expression as he sketched out the image of the protective shield in his mind and refined it.

Xinghe had a cold expression on her face, and no one dared to disturb her.

A few minutes later, Xinghe finished her work, and Boss Sheng's assistant hesitated before stepping forward, "Fairy, Boss Sheng has been arrested, what should we do?"

Xinghe's cheeks puffed out a little. "Why should I care about him?"

She didn't like Boss Sheng, so even if something happened to him, it was his own fault.

The assistant, now a devoted fan of Xinghe, asked blankly, "Then, shall we go back?"

Xinghe glanced at his assistant with a strange expression. "It's really pathetic that he's fallen to this state."

See? I told you that Boss Sheng doesn't know how to behave properly; even his assistant doesn't want to save him.

The assistant scratched his head, looking rather dim-witted.

Xinghe was a little annoyed. "You guys go back first."

Consider it repaying the debt of karma.

Consider it repaying the debt of karma.

Xinghe repeated it to himself several times before his mood calmed down.

It was a human life, after all. Xinghe didn't like him, and she couldn't bear to watch him die.

Even under the premise that I was implicated by her.

Xinghe opened the Ghost Path and followed the traces left by the root system from underground.

Xinghe had traveled an unknown distance.

When she emerged from the Ghost Realm, she saw a vast, dark forest.

There was no light around her, and all she was surrounded by was a network of drooping roots.

Xinghe snapped his fingers, and light shone around him.

She looked over and saw that the entire forest was covered with these roots.

This is a huge banyan tree.

A single tree can form a forest.

It occupied the entire forest.

It has existed for at least a thousand years, perhaps even longer, otherwise it wouldn't have grown into such a magnificent shape as it is today.

The surrounding roots did not attack Xinghe, and Xinghe moved towards the very center.

The main trunk of this banyan tree is located in the very center.

Xinghe could see the old banyan tree clearly; its exposed roots meandered and coiled on the ground.

The towering trunk branches out into many twigs, which continue to extend outwards.

Those drooping vines just like that, growing on the branches.

It burrows into the ground and grows intertwined with other root systems.

Many more hung suspended in mid-air, which was extremely eerie.

Just like that, Boss Sheng was wrapped up by several drooping roots and held in mid-air.

His eyes held a complex expression.

This was the first time in his life he had encountered something so bizarre; it would be a lie to say he wasn't scared.

The roots seemed to be alive, binding him tightly.

One of the tendrils was pressed against his heart, and another against his head.

With just a little force, he could die instantly.

Death itself may not be frightening, but the process of waiting for death is undoubtedly terrifying; he doesn't know when those roots will pierce his head and heart.

Before Xinghe arrived, he wasn't sure if Xinghe would come.

Xinghe has made it clear that she hates him. He has done so many things, why should Xinghe risk her life to save him?

He knew that Xinghe might not come.

He tried to convince himself that maybe she was trying to find a way, maybe she couldn't, maybe...

But soon, the Milky Way appeared before him.

Alone.

And so I stood before that eerie, towering tree.

He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then lowered his head in embarrassment.

Xinghe crossed his arms and said, "Get out here."

Boss Sheng didn't know who Xinghe was talking to, so he looked around.

Xinghe: "I don't have enough patience, one."

As soon as Xinghe finished speaking, the entire "forest" seemed to come alive.

The roots surged underground, and the roots in mid-air began to wave, while the leaves that blocked out the sky rustled.

Boss Sheng saw with his own eyes that something resembling a human face appeared on the trunk of the large banyan tree, which was so big that it would take more than a dozen people to encircle it.

The mouth, which resembled a human face, moved slightly, and an aged voice entered Xinghe's ears.

"Fairy Maiden".

"Tell me, what is your purpose in going to all this trouble to lure me here?"

The banyan tree said, "I want to make a deal with the fairy."

Without even thinking, Xinghe replied, "I refuse."

"Just by looking at you, you don't seem like a good person."

"That dodder plant thought you were a parasite, but in reality, it was the puppet."

The banyan tree's voice was neither joyful nor sorrowful: "To gain something, you are destined to lose something. It is all its own choice. I am merely providing some nutrients and taking some back in return."

Xinghe was intrigued and chatted with the banyan tree for a bit, "How did you do that? Is that tree your clone or your descendant?"

The banyan tree said, "Since the fairy has agreed to my deal, I will naturally reveal everything."

"A deal? What are you going to offer me in a deal? The person you've tied up?"

Xinghe smiled faintly, "Then you've arrested the wrong person. Everyone knows we don't get along. He hates me, and I hate him too."

Why should I make a deal with you for someone I hate?

Boss Sheng felt a dull ache in his chest; he clearly knew all along.

But hearing these words still makes me uncomfortable.

He has no right at all; it has always been them who have harmed Xinghe.

They deserved to end up like this.

The roots on his body tightened, and Boss Sheng began to have difficulty breathing.

"If you didn't want to save him, you wouldn't have chased me here in the middle of the night."

Xinghe shrugged. "Please, with everyone watching, I can't just do nothing. I care about my image in public, is that wrong?"

“He died here. When I go back, I’ll just say I was too late and couldn’t save him. What grounds will they have to blame me then?”

The banyan tree's gaze fell upon Xinghe.

He quietly observed her.

Let the starry sky survey me; my body becomes more and more relaxed.

She herself has a high affinity for plants, and those roots that have little intelligence formed a chair behind Xinghe.

It fawned over the Milky Way.

Xinghe settled back comfortably.

Her voice was languid, "Let's get started, what are we waiting for?"

"I might even have to thank you for getting rid of an annoying person for me."

"Once he dies, I can take his body back to report, it's the same thing."

Boss Sheng's eyes were full of hurt, and he lowered his gaze.
