Chapter 17 The Little Poplar Tree Was Cut Down

Following the same method, Xinghe found two or three more lucky individuals.

She looked too young; at first glance, she looked no different from a con artist.

Xinghe showed off her skills, catching a starving ghost on the spot, which convinced the group of people to believe her.

Several more sums of money have been deposited into the account.

Zhong Guofu's money was also transferred to Xinghe's account.

Xinghe transferred most of the money into the foundation account she established, and the remaining three thousand yuan belonged entirely to her.

Xinghe started placing orders online with great enthusiasm: buying talismans, buying more cinnabar, buying small peach wood swords (which looked fake, so she bought one to check them out), and beautiful compasses (she bought one).

I'll buy a pot of orchids, the kind that Jin Tong likes.

The girl took a liking to the punching bag, so I bought one.

A Buddha statue that can ward off evil spirits. If you don't believe it, buy one and see.

The Xinghe mobile phone displayed a message in large print: insufficient bank card balance.

Galaxy: ...

Another day when I'm so poor I want to sell myself.

Xinghe looked pitiful, "I'm so poor, so poor."

The jade maiden, perched on Xinghe's shoulder, slapped the golden boy, saying, "It's all because you want to buy too many things. What's so great about buying flowers and plants? Don't you know you can go dig some up from the mountain yourself?"

The boy felt dizzy and his head was filled with stars. His big eyes were brimming with tears. "You bought a lot too."

The Jade Maiden raised her fist, which was as big as a sandbag, and the Golden Boy immediately shut up.

They chatted and laughed as they walked towards the Sheng family's house.

When they reached a point about ten meters away from the Sheng family's house, Xinghe's gaze suddenly froze.

The golden boy and jade maiden followed Xinghe's gaze, and their smiles instantly froze on their faces.

The sapling that was full of life in the morning was uprooted, and its roots were scattered all over the ground.

The tree trunk, which was over a meter tall, was broken into several pieces.

The leaves were scattered all over the ground, devoid of any life.

When she left that morning, the little poplar tree was still rustling and waving goodbye to her.

Tears streamed down Jin Tong's face as if a dam had been opened. He squatted beside the little poplar tree, his hands radiating a green light.

The tiny body continuously channeled life force into the sapling.

The person who destroyed it didn't want it to live at all; the root system was completely severed, and even with the golden boy injecting a lot of vitality, the little poplar tree didn't react at all.

The golden boy looked at the Milky Way for help.

Xinghe raised his hand and made a talisman in the void, "All things are in full bloom, but they all return to the Dao, and all things are revived."

Under her hands, a large expanse of greenery began to spread, plants grew wildly, and the small poplar trees slowly grew roots.

Xinghe wrapped the slightly fragile roots of the small poplar tree in soil and handed it to Yunu, saying, "Put it back in my room first."

The maiden held the small poplar tree firmly in place with both hands, and nodded, "Don't worry, sister."

Xinghe lowered her eyes, wiped the dirt off her hands, and walked towards the Sheng family's living room.

Dinner time had just passed, and they should all be there if nothing unexpected happened.

In the living room, the Sheng siblings were all there, and they looked like they had just finished dinner.

Sheng Yue sat in the middle, surrounded by stars like the moon.

Boss Sheng moved the water glass towards Sheng Yue and said gently, "Yueyue, have some water. You haven't had much to drink today."

Old Sheng was busy running around, bringing fruit and stools. "I just bought these cherries today. They're big and sweet. I'll have some every month."

Sheng Lao Er didn't speak, but his expression was more relaxed than usual.

Sheng Laowu whispered something in Sheng Yue's ear, and Sheng Yue giggled and playfully punched him, saying coquettishly, "Fifth Brother! Humph, I'm not playing with you anymore."

"Brothers, look! Fifth Brother is bullying me!"

Sheng Lao Si glared at Sheng Lao Wu, "Lao Wu, Yue Yue's heart isn't feeling well. If you tease her again, we'll beat you up."

The group was enjoying themselves immensely, showing deep brotherly and sisterly affection. Xinghe, standing there, seemed superfluous and ridiculous.

She didn't come to see the siblings' affectionate relationship.

She went straight in.

The atmosphere in the room froze for a moment before Sheng Laowu was the first to stand up. "Sister's back. Have you had dinner? If not, I'll have the kitchen make some."

Xinghe: "No need."

Who planted that poplar tree by the gate?

The others were puzzled. For a moment, Sheng Laosan felt guilty. He glanced at Sheng Yue and was about to admit it.

Sheng Yue's voice was weak and pitiful. "That tree, yes, I had it cut down. It was planted in front of the Sheng family's house, and it didn't look very nice."

Before Xinghe could say anything, Shengyue's eyes began to well up with tears. "I'm sorry, I didn't know that you cared so much about that tree. I... I'll plant it back right now."

Sheng Yue clutched her chest and ran outside, but Sheng Laosan grabbed her hand, saying, "It's so late, Yueyue, don't go."

Sheng Laosan's anger was directed at Xinghe, "It's just a tree, is it worth you getting so angry? I'll buy ten more to make up for it tomorrow."

Xinghe's kitten-like eyes sparkled with a bright light, dazzling and radiant, like the brightest star in the night sky. Her gaze fell unreservedly on Shengyue, as if she could see through everything.

Under the gaze of those eyes, it seems that no gloom or shadow can be hidden.

"This mudfish thinks it's seafood after getting a little seawater on it? I suggest it learn from the Teletubbies and put an antenna on its head to see where it stands."

Sheng Yue's face turned pale instantly, and this time her tears fell genuinely.

She clutched her chest, as if she couldn't catch her breath.

Since her identity was exposed, her position in the Sheng family has become awkward. Even though the Sheng brothers treat her the same as before, she feels that they will eventually turn against her and side with Xinghe.

She always felt that the servants in the house were gossiping about her behind her back and looking down on her, especially that old shrew Wang Ma.

She knew that Xinghe had planted that tree there on purpose.

She has lived in this house for so many years, why should Xinghe make her give up her position as soon as he arrives?

She's innocent too. The Sheng family has been her family since she was little. Why should Xinghe take away her parents and brothers now?

Sheng Yue was putting on a convincing act, clutching her chest as if she were genuinely in so much pain she could hardly breathe.

Sheng Laosan nervously helped Sheng Yue sit on the sofa. "Yueyue, don't be nervous, take it slow, take a deep breath."

He turned his head sharply, his eyes filled with hatred. "What exactly do you want? Don't you know that Yueyue has had a heart condition since she was a child?"

Sheng Lao Si pursed his lips, "Yueyue has suffered a lot since she was a child because of heart disease. You are healthy and have no illnesses or disasters. Why bother arguing with a patient?"

Jin Tong's eyes turned red with anger, and he almost pounced on them and bit them to death. Xinghe held him down.

Xinghe crossed her arms and said, "Alright, if you have anything else to say, just say it all at once. It's your turn next."

Boss Sheng pushed up his glasses. "You should know that blood ties don't mean anything. We watched Yueyue grow up, so it's inevitable that we care about her a bit more now."

He paused slightly, then said, "Now that we're family, we naturally hope that you can get along harmoniously."
