The Taoist priest ran even faster.
The next second, green vines blocked Suiyuan's path.
He stopped with a forced smile.
"Star, what a coincidence! What brings you here?"
As he spoke, he searched for a way out, his not-so-large eyes darting around.
Xinghe walked up to him in a few steps, a sinister smile on her face. "Hiding from me?"
"What? Why would I hide from you? Why would I hide from you? I really didn't see you. It's just a reflex, a reflex."
"Can you change your habit of telling a string of lies when you lie?"
Xinghe rolled her eyes, completely blocking Suiyuan's path. "Tell me, what heinous things have you done to owe so many merit points?"
Xinghe simply couldn't understand, "Even if you started a world war, it wouldn't be this bad, would it?"
"I don't know."
“When I came to the underworld, they told me that I owed ten million merit points. I’m just an old Taoist priest, I didn’t do anything, I really didn’t know.”
Xinghe: "Really? I don't believe it."
Suiyuan felt heartbroken, "I'm your master! I raised you from infancy, and you don't even believe me."
"Go with the flow," he said. "You should actually ask the underworld officials about this. I'm innocent too. I don't know anything, yet I'm drowning in debt."
Xinghe stared at Suiyuan, whose face was expressionless. He tried to open his eyes wide to show his innocence.
In my memory, her jet-black hair was streaked with white, and her face had a few more wrinkles.
Suiyuan passed away suddenly, and Xinghe came to the underworld to investigate at the time.
The Book of Life and Death shows that his lifespan has ended and he died of old age. He did owe tens of millions in merit points, but the reason could not be found.
Xinghe stared at Suiyuan for too long, and Suiyuan suddenly hugged her tightly. "Little Xinghe, I haven't seen you in so long. I missed you so much."
"I heard you found your biological parents. How are they? Are they treating you well?"
Master Suiyuan said to himself, "Our little stars are so cute, as long as they have eyes, they won't treat you badly."
"If they are really blind, then I will go to my dreams to find them every night."
Xinghe softened her stance; she hadn't seen the old man for far too long.
She pouted. "Old man, you've been in the underworld for two years, and you're not doing very well. I've sent you so many things, how come you're still so poor?"
"What do you mean by being poor? I'm just experiencing life. If I'm too high-profile, even ghosts will be jealous."
...
After the old man became a ghost, he became even more cunning. Xinghe talked to him for a long time, but couldn't get a single word out of him.
I don't know the answer when asked.
Xinghe gave up and transferred some merit points to him, telling him to be well in the underworld and that she would send him to be reincarnated as soon as possible.
Having dealt with the Underworld, Xinghe began to follow up on the progress of the Network Department.
The basic network for the underworld is already in place; now all that's needed is to add some systems and software to it.
After Xinghe understood the basic operating logic of the system software, he returned to the underworld.
The underworld has existed since the beginning of the universe.
All operations follow the rules of the natural order.
To connect the underworld's operating system to the network, one needs to master the rules of the Heavenly Way.
How does the Way of Heaven operate?
Xinghe stood in the eighteenth level of hell, sensing the trajectory of the Heavenly Dao's rules.
After all living beings die, they are guided back to the underworld by underworld officials, where all souls must undergo approval in the Yama King's Palace.
Everything that happened during one's lifetime is presented to Yama, and one's merits and demerits are clearly seen.
Those who are guilty go to the eighteen levels of hell to cleanse themselves of their sins, while the innocent await reincarnation.
Reincarnation is closely related to one's merit points.
The rules of Heaven are omnipresent; they judge all things in the world with impartiality, equality, and ruthlessness.
It is not swayed by any emotions; for it, right is right and wrong is wrong.
Xinghe closed his eyes and put himself in the role of the Heavenly Dao. Humans have seven emotions and six desires, but the Heavenly Dao does not.
It acts solely according to the rules, and all things in the world are equal in its eyes.
The Milky Way coldly perceives everything in the world.
Watch a flower bloom, watch a leaf fall, watch a stream flow.
See the stones awaken to their first signs of intelligence, and see the demons cultivate themselves into human form.
Watching babies cry, watching families reunite, watching lovers who commit suicide go their separate ways after drinking the Meng Po soup.
The seven emotions and six desires of the world have become indifferent.
Xinghe couldn't remember how long he had been "watching"; time seemed to have lost its meaning.
She caught a glimpse of that rule, operating silently, enveloping the entire world in its power.
It is mysterious and quiet, and it is not moved by anything.
"I've found you." Xinghe's lips curled up slightly.
She reached out, grasped that sliver of rule, and crudely shoved it into the construction of the underworld's network system.
The rules, lacking sentience, continued to operate and quickly merged with the underworld's network.
Xinghe experimented and found that the system could retrieve the life stories and whereabouts of all the ghosts.
Xinghe's kitten eyes lit up. "Done."
She patted the mindless rules and said, "Do a good job. We need to make the Underworld bigger and stronger as soon as possible."
As soon as Xinghe finished speaking, the entire underworld trembled. Several dark clouds appeared out of thin air in the pitch-black underworld, and heavenly lightning gathered in the dark clouds.
This strange event alarmed all the ghosts in the underworld.
"I've never seen anything like this before. I've been in the underworld for hundreds of years, and this is the first time I've ever seen heavenly lightning."
"The ghost messengers are going to be struck by lightning? That's outrageous!"
"Holy crap, is this heavenly lightning going to strike down the entire underworld?"
Several Yama Kings from the underworld appeared simultaneously not far from the heavenly lightning.
Their faces were serious.
They had never seen such a color and such power of lightning since the beginning of their lives.
What has Xinghe done to anger the Heavenly Dao?
Their hearts pounded with worry for Xinghe. No matter what, they didn't want anything to happen to Xinghe. However, under this level of heavenly lightning, there was nothing they could do to help.
Xinghe cursed under his breath and ran away.
The Heavenly Dao can't afford to play games. She only grasped a tiny bit of the rules. The Heavenly Dao has countless rules. What's wrong with her using a little bit to improve the Underworld?
She didn't break the rules!
Xinghe was so angry he wanted to curse, but the heavenly lightning came too fast.
Caught off guard, Xinghe took the full force of the bolt of lightning, which struck him with perfect accuracy.
The light illuminated the hazy underworld for a fleeting moment.
After the light faded, Xinghe appeared with a head of singed hair.
Her smooth hair ends were all curled up together. Xinghe angrily cursed, "You dog Tiandao, this is too much! What did I do wrong?"
"Even the laws of Heaven must be governed by reason!"
The heavenly thunder wouldn't listen to Xinghe's explanations; another bolt of purplish-black lightning struck straight down.
Xinghe took another hit head-on, but luckily he reacted quickly and prepared, leaving a mess of talismans and formations scattered all over the ground.
