Chapter 137: Capture the King First

A large number of enemy troops gathered at the north gate of the Ice Palace, and the battle was unprecedentedly fierce. Luo Tian decided to go to the battlefield for on-site reconnaissance to see the situation.

He rushed to the city wall and met an enemy soldier with a knife. Luo Tian dealt with him in a few moves, knocked him unconscious and dragged him to the foot of the city, stripped off his clothes and put them on himself, and suddenly turned himself into an enemy soldier.

After Luo Tian disguised himself as an enemy soldier, he sneaked to the top of the wall, used his lightness skills to jump down from the wall, pretending to fall. An enemy soldier asked him if he was injured.

Luo Tian lied that he just needed to take a rest, walked to the base of the city wall, leaned against it, and observed the movements of the enemy.

He discovered that the enemy had two main plans to break into the city. One was to climb up the city wall with ladders, and the other was to break down the door and hit the city gate with broken wood.

Luo Tian considered repeating the same method he used to defeat the enemy before, but found that the current situation was slightly different. Perhaps the enemy had discovered the defenders' inadequacies in defense equipment after continuous sieges, so this wave of enemy attacks was almost all-out, rather than carried out in batches. Moreover, the cavalry and infantry were very close to the city gates, all wearing armor and holding shields. If he rashly used the strategy of catching the turtle in the jar, he would only invite the wolf into the house.

In order to deal with this wave of enemy troops, different methods must be adopted. Luo Tian remembered that there is a saying in ancient books: shoot the horse first when shooting a man, and capture the leader first when capturing a thief. At present, the commander attacking the north gate is experienced and wants to use a war of attrition to break through the city gate. If the commander's location can be found, the commander can be held hostage and ordered to surrender, then victory can be achieved with fewer casualties.

Thinking of this, Luo Tian stood up and mixed into the enemy army again. His current task was to find the location of the commander. Of course, it was difficult for ordinary soldiers to know this kind of information. Only senior officers could contact the commander.

Luo Tian discovered through reconnaissance that the enemy's clothing had different characteristics. Ordinary soldiers would only wear armor at most, and the officers who could command the soldiers were often on horseback wearing helmets. Even the helmets were different. Most officers wore black helmets, but two officers wore red helmets. I guess their ranks were relatively high among the current wave of defenders. The above are just guesses, and I need to find someone to verify it.

Luo Tian seized a soldier, took him to a quiet place, and demanded with his sword, "Tell me, where is your highest commander?"

The soldier initially thought that Luo Tian was one of their own, but now he was suddenly forced to question him and he was unable to react for a moment.

"If you don't tell me, I will kill you immediately!" Luo Tian threatened.

Hearing the word "kill", the soldier immediately understood Luo Tian's identity and said hesitantly: "I...we all listen to him." The soldier pointed to an officer riding a horse and wearing a black helmet.

"Who is the one riding a horse wearing a red helmet?" Luo Tian asked.

"That's the war supervisor, responsible for reporting the current battle situation to the commander. If a deserter is found, he will be executed immediately. We don't usually have contact with him." The soldier said in fear.

"Where is your supreme commander?" Luo Tian asked again.

The soldier shook his head: "The Supreme Commander is even more out of reach. I have told you everything I know. Please spare my life."

Luo Tian felt sorry for him, raised his hand and knocked him unconscious, then threw him aside. The soldier's words basically confirmed his guess.

Since the war supervisor was responsible for executing deserters, why not pretend to be a deserter and lure him in? Thinking of this, Luo Tian looked around, chose a position close to the war supervisor, and ran away.

"Help, someone save me, don't hit me, I want to go home, I want to go home!" Luo Tian pretended to be crazy and ran away in the opposite direction of the city gate, just to attract the attention of the supervising officer, who could easily judge that he was a deserter.

Luo Tian's strategy really worked. A supervising officer soon discovered a crazy deserter and galloped towards Luo Tian.

Even though Luo Tian ran very fast, he was soon caught up by the officer on horseback. He drew his sword from his waist and prepared to defend himself.

"Go back to the battlefield quickly, or I'll kill you!" The supervisor drew his sword and shouted from behind.

Luo Tian pretended not to hear and continued to run towards the enemy's base camp. Seeing that the warning was useless, the supervisor spurred his horse and swung his sword at Luo Tian. The moment the blade touched Luo Tian's neck, he jumped up, lay on the ground, and slid off his horse.

It happened too suddenly. The supervising officer saw Luo Tian crawling under the horse and wanted to stop him, but it was too late.

Luo Tian raised his sword and slashed the horse's leg, causing it to lose its balance and fall to the ground. The war supervisor lost his balance and also fell off the horse, rolling three times.

Luo Tian immediately jumped to the supervisor's side with a sword in hand, the tip of the sword against his neck: "If you don't want to die, listen to me."

The supervising officer said in a trembling voice: "You... do you want to rebel?" Obviously, he saw Luo Tian wearing his own clothes and thought he was one of them.

"Tell me, where is your supreme commander?" Luo Tian went straight to the point, hoping to get the information he wanted from him.

The war supervisor quickly calmed down and said, "You are a spy of the enemy army, right? Why should I tell you?"

"If you don't tell me, wait for death." Luo Tian threatened.

"You can kill or chop me up, it's all up to you. It's only natural for soldiers to die on the battlefield." The supervising officer said sternly.

Luo Tian didn't expect this man to be so courageous and fearless, so he thought of using soft tactics and said, "I admire you as a man. If you tell me the position of the commander, I will definitely ask for a reward for you. I will give you wealth and honor."

The war supervisor raised his head proudly and said, "I don't care about material possessions. Since I have fallen into your hands, please fulfill my wish."

Seeing that he was not being persuaded and was a bit difficult, Luo Tian advised him, "We are all warriors in the Heavenly King District. Why do we have to kill each other? Besides, it is Roger who is openly rebelling now. Think about it. If you fail, your whole family will be sent to be human batteries."
