After the aunt choked back tears and scolded the uncle, the two embraced and wept bitterly.
Zhou Chunhua, who is also a parent, suddenly understood the uncle's words: "Take your son with you."
She knew that, like the older man, she might be a bit extreme.
But like the older man, she really couldn't just close her eyes and leave, no matter how much suffering her child endured in this world.
She really can't do it!
Leaning against the wall, Zhou Chunhua took a deep breath, waited quietly for a moment, and then returned to her room.
Gu Yao was already in bed, facing the wall with his back to her.
But she immediately realized from Gu Yao's breathing that he was not asleep.
Suddenly, Zhou Chunhua stood there dumbfounded.
Did she... somehow get to know Gu Yao so well without even realizing it?
The last time she understood someone this well was when she was dating Liao Nanxing.
The thought of Liao Nanxing caused Zhou Chunhua's expression to change uncontrollably.
She shook her head, trying to banish that disgusted face from her mind.
When she looked at Gu Yao again, she was filled with gratitude.
It's not hard to see that Gu Yao was pretending to be asleep because he was actually trying to be considerate of her feelings.
Especially his stiff back... Gu Yao was just too cute at that moment.
Unbeknownst to Zhou Chunhua, a smile crept onto her face.
She sat down on the edge of the bed and said softly, "I know you're not asleep."
A moment later, Gu Yao sat up.
He scratched his head awkwardly: "I was afraid you'd feel uncomfortable, so I pretended to be asleep."
Zhou Chunhua took off her shoes, sat up on the bed, and turned to look at Gu Yao, who was sitting cross-legged against the wall.
"Can you help this uncle?" she said earnestly. "I know this matter isn't in Jiang City, so you'll probably have to ask someone else for help. Don't worry, I'll pay for it. Please make sure you get justice for this uncle."
Gu Yao stared at her for a long time before nodding and saying, "I understand."
"Thank you. Gu Yao, thank you so much." Zhou Chunhua said earnestly, "Gu Yao, I'm really glad to be your friend."
Although you initially said you were only helping me to get revenge on Liao Nanxing, the care you've given me over the past year has been genuine.
Without your help, I certainly wouldn't have had the courage to leave Liao Nanxing, let alone rekindle my hope for life. I am who I am today because of your tremendous support.
I've thought it over and over, and I really don't know how I can repay you.
At this point, she turned to look at Gu Yao.
"Can you tell me what your wish is? I really want to do something for you."
However, the next second, Gu Yao suddenly laughed.
He still likes to tilt his head slightly, just like before, and habitually touches his neck with his right hand.
She knew that whenever Gu Yao made this gesture, it meant he was very happy.
If I told you, would you really do it for me?
She looked directly into Gu Yao's eyes, and this was the first time in almost a year that she had not avoided his gaze in this situation.
"Yes. You said that as long as I can do it, I will definitely do it."
"Okay, then I'll really say it." Gu Yao's smile deepened.
Zhou Chunhua nodded very seriously and waited.
Suddenly, Gu Yao pulled back the covers and lay down.
Then, smiling, he said to her, "I'd like to sleep with my arm around yours, is that okay?"
"Huh?" Zhou Chunhua looked bewildered.
"I said, tonight, I want to sleep with my arm around yours. You're not trying to renege on your promise, are you?" Gu Yao repeated.
When Zhou Chunhua came to her senses, she raised her eyebrows high.
She used to think Gu Yao wasn't a normal person, but now it seems he really isn't.
Who would... make such a strange wish?
To be precise, this shouldn't even be considered a wish!
"You just said you would definitely do it. Never mind, get some rest." Gu Yao turned over, facing the wall again, his back to her.
"I understand." Without saying another word, she not only lay down but also stretched her arm out to Gu Yao.
The next second, a warm, large hand took her arm.
He simply put his arm around hers.
"Thank you." Gu Yao's voice was very soft and low, like a bubble.
She turned her head and saw that the man had actually fallen asleep!
Zhou Chunhua stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
She was just talking to me a moment ago, and in the blink of an eye, she's fallen asleep.
The warmth of Gu Yao's palm seeped through her sleeve and into her skin.
It's very warm, just like a hand warmer.
"Thanks."
Zhou Chunhua took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
She didn't sleep; instead, she waited...
...
The moonlight was bright.
Zhou Chunhua gently opened the door and stepped out.
The small courtyard, paved with fine pebbles, was clearly illuminated by the moonlight.
She tried to make no noise as she walked out, stepping on the pebbles.
The car keys he was holding were already soaked with cold sweat.
After leaving the uncle's courtyard, she ran quickly toward the car parked by the roadside.
The uneven road surface nearly tripped her several times.
Thankfully, I stumbled and fell into the car, and the surroundings remained quiet.
Starting the car, reversing and turning around, all in one smooth motion.
She held her breath until she got on the highway before vomiting.
Looking at the village receding further and further away in the rearview mirror, Zhou Chunhua gritted her teeth.
She simply couldn't be so selfish as to ask Gu Yao to die with her.
