Chapter 40 The real show begins

As they were talking, the nurse who was giving Xu Xiuzhen an IV drip came in.

When Xu Xiuzhen saw that it wasn't Nurse Xiaolin, who was good at giving injections, she immediately became unhappy and said that she only wanted Nurse Xiaolin to give the injections.

With a bang, the nurse impatiently threw the IV tray onto the bedside table.

"Are you going to lose or not? If you're not going to lose, I'll go and call your attending physician right now."

Sister Li whispered words of persuasion from the side, and Xu Xiuzhen reluctantly extended her hand.

The nurse tied the tourniquet and started tapping away incessantly.

Xu Xiuzhen's face turned red from the pain, and she finally couldn't hold back any longer: "It hurts, it hurts, be gentle."

"Auntie, you're not a little kid anymore. You can't even bear this little bit of pain, can you?"

The nurse started disinfecting the wound impatiently, then jabbed the needle into the flesh.

"Ouch! It hurts, it hurts..." Xu Xiuzhen cried out with her eyes closed, "Is it done? Is it in?"

The nurse rolled her eyes at Xu Xiuzhen: "Your veins are hard to find. Just bear with it."

As he spoke, he began poking and probing into the flesh with a needle.

Xu Xiuzhen cried out in pain, "Dad, Mom!"

It took a full five minutes for the nurse to insert the needle into her vein.

After securing the needle and adjusting the speed, the usual warm greetings were gone; he turned and left.

Xu Xiuzhen, wiping away her tears, said angrily, "I'm going to file a complaint against her!"

Sister Li said a lot of things before she was able to calm Xu Xiuzhen down.

After Xu Xiuzhen fell asleep, she turned around and left the ward, heading towards the nurses' station.

Find the nurse who gave Xu Xiuzhen the IV drip earlier and whisper, "Nurse Wang, what were you doing? She's threatening to complain about you."

"Let her go! I'm afraid she'll complain! I hate mothers-in-law who condone their sons' domestic violence the most!"

The nurses at the nurses' station nodded in unison.

Even the head nurse whispered, "Well done."

From that day on, not only did the nurses and doctors become less friendly, but even her fellow patients who used to chat with her stopped talking to her.

Whenever she appeared, the patients who had gathered together to chat and bask in the sun would immediately scatter like birds and beasts.

Many times when we were squeezing into the elevator, some people even pretended not to see her and almost knocked her over while rushing around.

She could actually tolerate all of this.

What she found most unbearable was that no one could successfully insert the needle into her veins every time she received an IV drip.

Even with Nurse Kobayashi, who used to be the best at giving injections, it would take at least five needle pricks to get the vein in.

Xu Xiuzhen felt she couldn't take it anymore in the hospital, so she kept insisting on being discharged.

The attending physician couldn't persuade her otherwise, so he asked her to bring her family members to sign the documents in person, and then allowed her to be discharged from the hospital.

That same day, Xu Xiuzhen slunk out of the hospital and went home.

On the way, she asked, "Son, have you thought about what I said?"

"Mom, if this gets out of hand, it could have a huge impact," Liao Nanxing said hesitantly.

"What's so great about her? You're not just planning to waste your time with Zhou Chunhua like this, are you? Let me tell you, think about how much younger Su Mu is than you. If you can't even give her a proper title, what will happen when you retire in a few years? She might be spending the money you give her and calling someone else her husband, and making your son call someone else's dad. You should really think about it!"

After Xu Xiuzhen said that, Liao Nanxing also felt uncertain.

Xu Xiuzhen continued, "Let me tell you, this is the only way now! We both have to work together. Only if we make it impossible for her to stay any longer can we make room for Mumu!"

And one more thing, let me remind you. Before Su Mu marries into the family, you can't give her too much money, understand? Otherwise, you'll end up losing both your money and your wife, and becoming a laughingstock!

She poked Liao Nanxing on the head with her finger: "You! Think more about your son! Don't wait until you're old and there's no one left to break a pot for you!"

After that, Liao Nanxing didn't say another word.

The car drove into the residential compound and parked at the entrance of the apartment building.

Before I even got off the bus, I bumped into Old Tang, whom I often played cards with.

"I just passed by your house and smelled the aroma of stewed meat. I guessed it was because you were discharged from the hospital today. What an enviable daughter-in-law!"

Unlike me, when I was a daughter-in-law, I had to be filial to my parents-in-law and serve the whole family. Now that I'm a mother-in-law, I still have to serve the whole family. Sigh! When it comes to finding a wife, your Nanxing is much better than my ungrateful husband!

Upon hearing this, Xu Xiuzhen and Liao Nanxing were both dumbfounded.

Old Tang patted the shopping basket in his hand: "I'm not talking to you anymore. I have to hurry up and buy groceries and cook before my daughter-in-law gets off work. If she comes back and there's no food, she'll definitely start arguing with my son again."

After saying that, he left.

Coming to her senses, Xu Xiuzhen looked at Liao Nanxing and asked, "During the two weeks I was hospitalized, you didn't come home?"

“Yes, we’re back! We go home every day. Zhou Chunhua wasn’t home when I went to work this morning. Besides, I changed the locks on the house a while ago!”

"How did she get in?"

Liao Nanxing silently carried his things and hurried upstairs.

Upon opening the door, I saw a slender, graceful figure moving around in the kitchen.

Xu Xiuzhen turned to look at Liao Nanxing.

Liao Nanxing shook his head, his eyes wide with confusion.

In their memory, Zhou Chunhua was a shapeless, unremarkable woman; how could she have such a slender figure with a defined back and waist!

The two dropped their things and headed towards the kitchen.

So they bumped right into each other in the living room and the kitchen.

"You... how did you become..." Xu Xiuzhen frowned, her face full of wrinkles forming deep folds. Her yellowish old eyes scanned Zhou Chunhua up and down.
