"Okay." He's the boss, so of course I'll just do whatever he tells me to do.
Throughout the meal, Zhou Chunhua kept looking at her phone.
Gu Yao remained silent until after dinner, when he finally asked, "Any news about the child?"
"Huh? Not yet."
"How's it going?"
When Gu Yao asked her, Zhou Chunhua did not hide anything.
After explaining the whole story, she quickly said, "I didn't even have a chance to thank you last time. If you hadn't reminded us, we probably wouldn't have dug deeper into this lead, let alone seized this opportunity."
"Could I have Old Chen's phone number?" Gu Yao suddenly asked.
Zhou Chunhua raised an eyebrow and quickly gave out Old Chen's phone number.
Gu Yao entered the phone number in front of her, saved it, and then dialed it.
However, after two rings of the call signal, the call was disconnected.
Upon seeing this, Zhou Chunhua's expression darkened.
Old Chen is not only helping her find Nini, but also his own son. Over the years, no matter the time or whether the call is from an unknown number, he has never hung up on his own initiative.
Because they didn't want to miss any possibility of finding their child.
Gu Yao called again, but this time it only rang once before being disconnected.
"It's nothing, he's probably busy. Wait here for me, I'm going out to make a call." After saying that, Gu Yao picked up his phone and got up to leave.
She quickly took out her phone and dialed Old Chen's number as well, but just like before, the call was disconnected.
Hearing the mechanical female voice on the phone, her heart was pounding.
Recalling that when she transferred the money, Lao Chen didn't even reply to her WeChat message, she panicked even more.
It wasn't the money that was worrying me, but rather what might have happened to Lao Chen.
Call the police.
After entering 110, her hand froze in mid-air...
How do I report this to the police?
Just because Lao Chen didn't answer the phone, they said he was in danger. How can anyone believe that!
So the next second, she decided to go by herself.
She grabbed her bag and ran straight to the cashier.
However, as she passed through the corridor leading to the restroom, she seemed to hear Gu Yao's voice.
Stepping back a few paces to look around... Gu Yao was leaning against the art glass wall, making a phone call.
The next second, Gu Yao suddenly looked at her, and their eyes met.
She was like someone with glue stuck to their feet, completely out of control.
Gu Yao hung up the phone and strode towards her with his long legs.
"Didn't I tell you to wait for me over there?" Gu Yao glanced at the bag in her hand. "Where are you going?"
Since things had come to this point, Zhou Chunhua simply said, "I'd like to ask for leave next week. I need to go see Old Chen."
Gu Yao raised an eyebrow slightly.
"You mean...you don't even suspect that Old Chen cheated you and ran off with the money. Instead, you're worried about him being in danger. You trust him that much?"
Zhou Chunhua nodded without hesitation.
The trust between her and Lao Chen was something that ordinary people couldn't understand.
So... explanations are useless.
Gu Yao suddenly reached out and took her bag, then walked towards the cashier.
"Let's go."
When Zhou Chunhua caught up, Gu Yao was already paying the bill.
In public, she didn't ask any questions and could only follow Gu Yao away from the cashier and into the elevator.
"Thank you. I can carry it myself." She reached for her bag, but Gu Yao dodged her hand.
“Gu Yao, even if you don’t agree to my request for leave, I’ll skip work to go.”
"Who said I disagreed?"
The elevator doors opened, and Gu Yao stepped out first, leaving her to follow behind.
"Then what do you mean by not letting me leave now?"
Before she could finish speaking, she bumped headfirst into Gu Yao's back.
My forehead is throbbing slightly.
I couldn't help but complain in my heart, "We were walking along just fine, why did you suddenly stop?"
She looked up and was startled by Gu Yao's close face.
"You haven't gotten your driver's license yet, have you? And you don't have a car, right? So, are you planning to take the subway, then a bus, then a motorcycle taxi? Or are you going to take a taxi? Have you considered whether taxi drivers would even be willing to go to places where there's no public transportation?"
"I..." Zhou Chunhua was speechless when asked.
“There’s more.” Gu Yao suddenly reached out and pulled her toward the parking space.
"Do you even know where he is? You're just recklessly going to find him. I remember you said Old Chen was a soldier. If he's really in danger, the result of you going there will just be another lamb to the slaughter."
As before, Gu Yao opened the car door and gentlemanly shielded it with his hand.
“I know some people over there, and I’ve already asked them for help.”
Gu Yao got into the car, started the engine, and drove out of the underground parking lot.
Zhou Chunhua remained silent the entire way, trying to answer Gu Yao's questions in her mind.
However... there is no solution.
She had to admit that she had no answer to any of the questions Gu Yao raised.
She thought that once she got there and found Old Chen, the only thing she could do was call the police.
When the car stopped again, it was already in the parking lot downstairs from my apartment building.
"Isn't this troublesome?"
"No trouble at all." Gu Yao replied readily, as if it were as easy as picking up something casually.
"Thanks."
"Don't always shoulder everything by yourself. You can try to trust me."
Zhou Chunhua couldn't make a sound. She got out of the car, went into the elevator, got out of the elevator, opened the door, went home, and went straight to her bedroom.
The moment she collapsed onto the bed, she couldn't hold back her sobs.
Which woman doesn't want someone to rely on? She doesn't want to shoulder everything by herself.
